Having a degree is very important because it shows that one has gone through a perpetual learning under a specific discipline and this is what could be used to identify the specialization of each profession, additionally, we also needed to improve on the aspect of learning skills to help back up our experience both theoretical and practical aspects in other to be able to deliver to the society.

But after lifetime of manual work most workers still have problems with spine and joints.

Manual workers not only face health problems but also risk and loss if they cannot save some money before they grow old and lose their ability to work. They will even work until they die. Meanwhile, those with degrees and working at state-owned enterprises will enjoy many benefits during their working time as well as receive pensions when they retire. Not only that, if they have good relationships, their children will have more job opportunities and more chances for career advancement in the future.

The benefits of having a degree are huge, we should not just because some students graduate and become unemployed think that degrees are useless, and spread the mindset that no degree is needed to the younger generation. It not only ruins their future but it can ruin the future of the entire nation.

It all depends on the type of contract they are signed, or maybe if they even work without signed contract. If they work without contract they future is not very good, as they won't receive pension benefits or have health insurance. And specially if work inspection catches them to work illegaly. I doubt that employer that employs workers without contract care for their workers health and safety, so they probably try to overwork workers to get the most work for daily wages. So yes you have good arguments too. But it depends from country to country and if government inspections do their work to assure good working conditions for workers.

To me a university degree is not needed that much again looking at the society you can see alot of people who are having certificates all over rooming round the street all in the name of looking for a job instead of doing something reasonable with their life's , one thing that I have seen is that certificate even make people lazy because it give graduates the believe that they are supposed to have a better life because of their certificate.

This is is because schools doesn't tell them the truth about life that there are limited jobs available so they need to get something doing apart from the certificate that they own

This question can't be answered in general. However, what you can conclude in general is that capitalism has ruined universities. They have become a degree printing subsystem within the whole corrupt system that we live in. In most universities, the standards are lowered to retain and pass the largest amount of students possible. This is especially true of private universities. To make matters worse, the same kind of degree between two universities is often incomparable. One university is very difficult and will produce a good workforce, the other will produce quacks who don't know anything and are lazy. Additionally, there are many degrees and programs that are useless and should not exist at all.

If you study something productive, useful or difficult then the degree is worth it. If you study something subjective and useless, it is not worth anything.\

It does not show shit. Most universities are very easy these days, and most people that pass and get a degree are terrible and undisciplined workers.

How does a certificate make someone lazy? Aren't they seeking knowledge and insight for their future? I don't think a degree or certificate guarantees you'll get a job quickly or meet your desired criteria. I think school only provides guidance on what students will face in the future when they graduate. The fact is, with limited job opportunities, many new graduates find it extremely difficult to find work. As long as companies still hold high standards for their new employees, I believe a degree remains valuable. In my opinion, what makes people lazy is that they don't hone or develop what they've learned in school, which makes it extremely difficult for them to find work.

Microsoft, Google and some other big corp organice their own course work to make best use of the world's brain power.
Unfortunately though, people from sanctioned countries are excluded.

Further, it shows that the many universities have very little credibility.

A degree is pretty useless, not just now but for a while. Companies prefer candidates with actual knowledge and skills about the tasks they are recruiting for. In the past, they used to hire top scorers and provide the necessary training for a while at their own cost. But students are not aware of it yet, they spend hundreds of thousands to get a degree but they realize about it's worth only when it's too late.

Depends. Healthcare is always high in demand. Dentists, nurses, medical doctors will have no problems with getting a job no matter what happens. Even AI cannot take their jobs away.
But now we have technology where surgeries can be done remotely, a surgeon doesn't necessarily need to be present at the location. If I am not wrong, China has already demonstrated a surgery using robotic hands that was operated from a different location so it got some risks too.

Well nurses are in demand in the USA and their is a huge shortage of them.

Doctors are a different story in the USA .

But if you live in the USA and are starting collage get a nursing degree there will very likely be a job for you when you get out.

To explain the fuckupedness of Doctors in the USA is very hard to do in 1 thread.

I do have a true story my friends dad died right in front of him from an asthma attack.

My friend was a pharmacist at the time he could not save his father. So he decided to become a doctor.  He had a Pharmacy degree from Saint John's College in NYC in the 1980's St Johns was a goto college for Pharmacy. His average was 3.85 which is very good.

He took the medical admissions tests in 1984? maybe 1983. There are 14 sections

his scores were

01) 99 percentile
02) 99 percentile
03) 99 percentile
04) 99 percentile
05) 99 percentile
06) 99 percentile
07) 99 percentile
08) 99 percentile
09) 99 percentile
10) 99 percentile
11) 99 percentile
12) 99 percentile
13) 95 percentile
14) 99 percentile

Guess how many USA medical colleges accepted him

zero

he went to one in Grenada

and what happened when he was there

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_invasion_of_Grenada

So for doctors I am not a fan of USA college system

Further, it shows that the many universities have very little credibility.
This is what I like with these tech companies. They are offering courses to everyone and many of them are only for free but if it's about certification, it's a different matter. But what matters there is about the learnings that they're sharing through their courses and the technology that they're using which is also applied and used by the other tech companies. Resources are there and it's up to the learner if they'll take advantage of it. This is a skill but for me, if you've got a chance to earn a degree, take it first and learn these skills from these companies at the same time or when done with the other.

Getting a university degree doesn't guarantee success in this generation that's the reason why a lot of people don't value it anymore. Acquiring education is an achievement, it improves your IQ and your level of reasoning, it also helps you know how to interact with others. But you need to think of learning a high paying skill to make money, relying on your certificate to get you a job might be disappointing

This is actually on point but in the end of the day it wont be that still suggested or recommended that you should be that avoiding yourself on getting a degree. We can say into those stuffs but this isnt that applicable to anyone on which there are still that those who do have that gained knowledge and build up their skills and awareness on how things works on this world. There might be some lapses but it is that much more better in comparing into those people who hadnt been able to touch up these institutions. Is it worth it? Our parents will definitely be that trying out their very best for us to go into school and get up some degree on which it might be having those negative inputs but still it would be that the best option that you could have specially that sooner or later you would be that becoming independent. You would definitely be ending up on having some hardship even just that finding a dayjob when you dont have that educational attainment.

Having a university degree would be that still worth on which its not just that talking up on getting that piece of paper(diploma) but also you can get up the knowledge on which it would be something significant to hover yourself on dealing up with life challenges. You do have that knowledge and awareness on things around.

No matter how we want to view it, universities exist for a reason and there is nothing that would have been developed today without proper research. For we to know that university degrees are very important, government is funding university research to develop new things so things can be become easy for everyone. If there is a new drug today, know for sure that the drug most have been tasted in one university before it become public, now imagine life without all the university.

You can take university from life of uneducated people and universities are going to be fine but if you take people out of Universities, the wayward people we are going to have at going to be more than many like we have now. We are going to have a lot of uneducated peoples roaming the street that even ordinary life's is going to be hard for them. The basic life that everyone understand is going to be different, to havr someone to engage a common discussion is going to be hard.

It depends on what degree you get. If you get a Doctors, Dentist, Lawyer, then its worth it. But if you go to a University and you get a Bachelors of Arts or Science then you wont be in demand and you will have a hard time finding work unless you get a job teaching.

Many people go to University or College because they want White collar jobs but the issue is that as everybody is going, there is a huge surplus of these jobs and not every student can land work. The opposite is actually happening with blue collar work. Less people want to get their hands dirty so there is a shortage in many industries and those which are in those industries are sometimes making more money than white collar jobs because their worth is in demand while the other is not.

It depends per culture. In my country, it is the first step and as long as you have a degree, you can get hired by many companies because the hardship of going to a university is one of the factors to get into a white collar job. But it is also true that it won't determine someone's success. And for most graduate students, I will not invalidate their feelings if they think that graduating is a success but that's not the end goal of all. We know the brutality of life now, if you have no job, no money, you're useless and that's why we're striving to succeed and acquiring skills that we like and profitable.

The best option for employers is to focus on who can solve problems regardless of University degree or things like that otherwise the purpose of school is defeated
People go to school to gain proper knowledge of things that matter and use that for the good of society and their own good. Employers have to focus on people who have the right knowledge to fit in particular roles in their company or business, for the benefit of society. I believe it's right to go for the best, not minding whether they own school or university degree or not. That is how a society will be able get the best services or products from such company. And the company would be profitable.

Best or good quality should always be the standard regardless of where they come from. If universities can produce the best, fine, otherwise people are free to get qualified from anywhere and be qualified to get the jobs that require their qualifications. If they are asked for proof of education they should be bold enough to show where the knowledge that made them the best really comes from. I for example could present the Word/Knowledge of GOD and expect It to be approved immediately since it's producing great result for the company.

Companies and others should simply focus on who can get things done better. That could also help the certificate issuing universities to focus on what works for their students rather than how the system wants them to be programmed.

Of course the degree are usually worth but it all depends on the sectors which your degree aim at, for example the engineering sectors, medical doctors, estate managements these people are highly needed across the word specially those that studies nursing, though it actually depends on the country of graduation because a place like my country we often seen education as something not meaningful because people are usually unemployed after graduation for so many years. Manny people had graduated and turned themselves to self-employed where they go acquires additional skills to couple with their educational degree to at least able to work in some construction companies.

Academic degrees will now only be seen as a formality to make up gaps and qualifications in employment as I don't see how they can really be useful.
But it's definitely a point because even though it's a formality for employment, it's certainly the most sought after especially for countries that are developing or even lagging behind, it could be that developed countries are also like that although I don't really know for sure.

Nowadays an academic degree is like a piece of paper that actually means something but on the other hand it can also be useless. When we have this we can have more qualifications for jobs although sometimes this is also influenced by nepotism (for jobs) but in the end this can support to get better things than those who do not have academic degrees. So I agree that it is valuable, but on the other hand, the view that academic degrees are not very useful can also be a choice of thought that cannot be blamed because in fact it is partly true.

Now lemme draw your attention to something very important about having degree and to those who thought having a degree is useless, do you know that before someone can own such a degree they have undergo series of studies and research right?
Yes, this what makes you different from the ordinary people whose that academic degree are useless or not useful any longer, and even as that we sure  needs these degrees for promotion in offices depending on what degree we have in our possession. Owning a degree is like someone who has authority over mad people, and of course you would be more respected in terms of knowledge or whatever thing that concerns academia especially for those who owns a doctorate degree in their field of discipline.

Yes, a university degree is still worth it because the experience of being a student in a higher education institution is really something else. You open up your mind to new ideas, get to experience the world in a very active lifestyle, get to know about rights and responsibilities.

It's overall a good experience and it shouldn't be just about the economics. A university degree is also about exploring passions. Sadly the so called free market doesn't appreciate things that don't generate profit. For instance we all appreciate and need art on our life, but the market can't support artisans. And although many people would like to go to the theater or buy a painting they can't afford anything beyond the basic necessities. So consequently many artists can't support themselves doing their craft.

Does that mean that art school isn't worth it? If you look only into the monetary gain aspect maybe not. But it's not just about that.

That's if they studied properly at university, or if they attended a good university, as many students fail when entering the workforce.

Having a college degree only adds value when applying for jobs or makes you look more educated in society. While it's certainly worthwhile in some circumstances, it's not the determining factor for success.
