In all cases, when applying for a job, we need a certificate of educational qualification compulsorily and especially in any government job, but skills take them one step further. Now the thing is that it depends on the mentality of each person what he wants to do, if you start your own organization, in that case the certificate has no value, because there you are moving forward using your own skills, the certificate is only needed when we are looking for a job alone, another thing is that in some countries where a person is respected based on his educational qualifications, I find this very bad, especially when a young man wants to get married, everyone asks him about his educational qualifications.
That's why I say it depends on where we live. Generally, in my own country, the main requirement for job applications is a diploma, regardless of our strengths and skills that can influence the assessment process. I see many of my friends with university degrees not working in the government sector and prefer to start their own businesses because in this type of work sector, you are much more independent and can achieve financial freedom much faster. Education is indeed important, but there is no guarantee that those who have higher education will get the job they hope for, whereas when we have skills, we can create jobs, even if we have to start from a small business first.

The point is not all about obtaining the certificate is about what you study from school you cannot go into university to study office management, physical health education, anatomy name them all and you will be expecting employment after school in my in own ways I will like to say before people would apply for admission into any higher institutions they should know what applying for because most higher institutions (universities) give candidate what they didn't applied for and most people accept the offer because of gaining status and not to used the certificate in the future then after everything no job opportunities because they have been accepted what cannot be defend and at the end the certificate became useless this is the common reason why people always say education doesn't pay anymore
In the world now if you want your certificate to be valuable enroll in medical line's it pays.

In terms of prestige it is still quite valuable but literally for now the certificate is just a piece of paper without really meaning anything especially with the rise of people who only make certificates in terms of training or even graduation certificates from universities just as a formality to get a job no matter whether the qualifications are suitable or not.

I don't deny that university degrees, especially in my country nowadays, have become very useless because everything is sometimes the same where we are just trying to make the requirements met without really being able to know the essence of what we are studying for.
As a result, there are a lot of people with university degrees but their behavior and attitudes don't really show that they are educated and even seem inferior to those who never even went to school.

Yes a lot of people are holding degrees bearing there names and yet can't be defended, maybe due to the mindset they have while entering the university.
Some years ago, I was opportuned to be in the midst of some young people discussing, someone said even if I don't have a degree I won't go won't be poor, you see people with such mind set, if such fellow eventually decides to attend university.
Mabe with in intention to rank up the the calibar of the people he mingle with, he won't read to acquire knowledge instead to get a degree. The motives to having the degree is sometimes what employer look for, because in this dispensation many smuggle there way into the university only to secure degree and then can't defend what it holds up for. Most times during interviews we meet a lot of people when asked questions base on what they claim to have read, they seems not to know anything about the degree they carry around seeking jobs with.
It also good not to fixed ones mind at a place, having different streams of income helps to balance things. Like some lawyers, doctors, teachers others in different occupation I know have other means of earning money aside there main job which helps to release the load on there main job.
Degree are good and important get it improves your skills and wait for opportunity.

Your country is not just the only country with such ideology,  be it developed or underdeveloped countries degree certificate is a general criteria required for employment in any firm. Although apart from degree certification, employment can be offered to those with other form of certifications in as much as he or she has what it takes to justify his claims. Most people without degree certificate because they are not buoyant financially but knows what they wants goes as far as acquiring skills that helps them balance there financial stress and provide them with the basic needs of life.

The condition of the mindset is especially demanding because not a few companies, especially when we are in developing or underdeveloped countries, always make diplomas as a benchmark in finding work (apart from connections and money) so that the benchmark always becomes the same when we want to have a good job then we need a diploma which is the main requirement and this is misinterpreted by most in the understanding that diplomas are only a requirement for employment.

Although there are still a lot of people who study seriously in order to get better knowledge at university, the majority will still consider academic degrees as one of the requirements for employment in the end.
Diplomas, academic degrees and education are not wrong but it is our thinking that ultimately makes this a wrong thing that makes us get caught in a wrong circle.
We can see now that diplomas are not very useful for life because even if there are many degrees, it still won't make us think that it is a result that can really be proud of properly because the essence of the diploma has been too damaged from the start.

In my country every field is saturated such as engineering and even the medical too that is why India is exporting most doctors to across the world so degree is not holding the same value as it used to be back 30 years ago. Now to get a job we need to have a lot more skills that is also appropriate for the job that we are applying. Communicating is another important skill that many people lack in this internet era because they are so used to the texting that when it comes to the actual conversation they are struggling.

University education is not equally useful for everyone. There are some who, after studying at the university, make great efforts on their own. There are some who do research that can really be very necessary for the common people. Especially those who do research on science. There are many who want to do something for the country or the world. For those students, the country or the world benefits, they do not have to wait for employment, but not everyone can do good research. There are many who only obtain a university degree, the country can never benefit from such people unless they acquire skills themselves. They make themselves skilled.

This is the reality many of us are seeing around us today where paper qualifications often does matters more than the practical skills you have, an environment where people with the real and actual skills are being overlooked just because they do not tick the a formal box. Education is definitely important to everyone on earth today but it does not still guarantees you everything and can make you tied to only a few opportunities like we have seen with many graduates who struggle to look for government jobs and till date are still struggling.

This is why if we depend on paper degrees for everything in life, we will not be able to achieve anything, the competition is huge in getting government jobs, it is difficult to survive there without luck, because there are many who are sitting at home with degrees but do not get any job and we see such examples everywhere. No doubt education is important and it plays a big role in shaping the outlook and thinking of a person, but education alone cannot guarantee everything in life. Those who have real experience and skills are able to survive in most cases, which a person with a only certificate cannot.

It’s is not only even if you want to become a government worker that university degree is important, there’re some professions that you can’t actually do if you don’t have academic background, professions like Medicine and nursing, Laws and so on..
So even with just that, it is clear that universities degrees is still worth it, because we obviously still need those professions in our society today..

It  is never right to depend on paper degree because nowadays those we call government officials are full of shit they don't care if you're a graduate or not, nowadays I have seen most of the government officials offering job to those that only obtain O'level degree while those with master and bachelor degree are there struggling. I can't denie the fact that university degree is important but we should not depend on them considering the people we have as government officials, because they don't just care about anyone they only care for their loved ones and relatives that is why we need alternative like skill incase they fail us we can switch to the other.

Well, even though the world is moving towards mostly skill-based hiring, I also believe that it's important for one to at least have a degree, and that's not only because they will have higher chances of getting a good job, but it's proof that they are educated and are capable enough of doing something they are trying to do, which also means applying for a job, because when you apply without a degree, even if you have the necessary skills, they might doubt you, and you might not even get the opportunity to present yourself and show them your skills, because most companies won't even call you if your CV doesn't mention that you have a relevant degree.

So if someone has enough money and time, and they don't have any hurdles in their way, they should surely acquire a degree in the field they are interested in, because it is surely going to be of help. If you can't do it for any reason, then you should try and focus on acquiring some skills and work on them, so that you can use them to at least make a living for yourself.

Communication skill is also important and I agree with you about that. That's because in almost or every trade and industry, this is how a company gets a sale.

If no one is good about communicating and building rapport with their customers, they're not going to have any revenue at all.

It is included when one obtains a university degree because you're building it there and I think it's still worth it for the next generation to finish their studies before or while they're working with a part time job.

Education has become a failed system in most countries because most people that have graduated from school are still at home without any hopes of having a job, not because they are not applying to get one but because the system seems rigged, you need to know someone on the inside or pay a certain amount of money, in most cases those that are employed are people who didn't go to school but they only got there because they have the connection.  this is something that affects most countries especially countries in Africa

It's true as you said, but I see this from two different perspectives. If you want to become an entrepreneur, then we only need skills, and those can be acquired anywhere. However, if we want to become an employee and get a government job, then we must have a degree. Aside from that, I think everyone has different desires, so I believe people's opinions will vary on whether a university degree is important or not. It depends on the individual and their personal goals.
And who said a graduate with a degree can’t become an entrepreneur? That’s the problem with people, they only go to school, spend all the years they spend and acquire a degree just to sit back and look for who will employ them and give them a job, and if there’s none forthcoming, they just sit and do nothing but wait which is nothing but bullshit. With all the knowledge acquired from the university or college or whatever, it’s more than enough to put them into good use and get something started if nothing is forthcoming at the moment, the mindset of waiting till there’s an employment opportunity has kept many people and many knowledge in a places they are not meant to be, and the sooner we change that mindset the better for us all.

In my country every field is saturated such as engineering and even the medical too that is why India is exporting most doctors to across the world so degree is not holding the same value as it used to be back 30 years ago. Now to get a job we need to have a lot more skills that is also appropriate for the job that we are applying. Communicating is another important skill that many people lack in this internet era because they are so used to the texting that when it comes to the actual conversation they are struggling.
the problem in my own country is not even the over saturation of courses but the lack of enough job opportunities for graduates in comparison with the large population of graduates leaving university to the labour market. Now the labour market has been over saturated with bunch of graduates who have zero field experience and skills and are only banking on their paper qualifications.

Although, recently I also realized that there have been improvements from the side of the graduates as many of them are now looking beyond the degrees to embed themselves with skills that can help them with their survival while they still remain in the labor market. As a result of this, many of these young graduates have started establishing small and medium sized enterprises which will boost the economy of the country in the near future .

Getting a degree is good which is for our knowledge but we are tuned in a wrong way like complete a degree and get a job but now the job opportunities are just limited and can't cope up with the increase of population which is why there is a huge difference between number of graduates with number of job opportunties limited.

And a government can never fill ever student into a job so it is always good to start their own business which may even be small but it create the job opportunities so the unemployment issue will be sorted out but it also need some help from government like provide financial help, tax relief or make the process of loans easier.

In the case of big jobs, we need a university degree. However, in the present time, due to the increase in the rate of education, it has become very difficult to get a job. For example, almost everyone has become a student. In every field, there is now a recruitment for a job. When a person applies for a job, it is seen that 10 people will be hired for the job, but 1 thousand people apply. Among these 1 thousand people, the 10 people who are the best will be hired in the company.

But now there are many people who go to university only in the name of education, but they do not study well. When they see the results, they are in a very bad situation. All these people often say that they cannot get a job after studying. A person who is a very good student is never without a job, maybe a little time is enough, but a good student will be able to get a job at some point.

However, in many developed countries, a lot of work is currently being done in the AI stream. It should be remembered that our people created AI, AI did not create people. So if a person can become a complete programmer with the right skills and good knowledge, then the chances of him not getting a job are very low.
