What, I heard about IDO Fair Launch and Pre Market like in 2021 at latest... so you mean to tell me nobody came up with anything new since 4 years already?

These whole methods have been used to scam investors in the past. ICO and IEO are mostly used for projects that come through bounties and airdrops in the years 2019-2022, but people were tired of the scammers and stopped joining the coin offering or initial listing before official listing. The scammers then decided to use pre-market as their new format, which was also cast two years back because most projects that sell on pre-market usually list below the pre-market price, which means they scam people to buy early so that they can use their money to recover their investment, and they mostly run after listing.

The Telegram tap-and-play-to-earn airdrops showed people the exact meaning of a pre-market scam because when people see the pre-market price, they do have hope, which usually fails at the listing period, and now the majority don’t buy during pre-market anymore and wait for the official listing.
Now most new projects do just go directly to listing on CEXs; there is no need for premarket because people don’t buy anymore.

Premarket was even actually the same time as ICO (it just came before ICO, sometimes they call it close sales or private sales or prelaunch).

It was IDO that was to me the only latest format because DEXs became so popular and you just immediately launch liquidity pool.

I'm not sure what's new now, what I remember is the IDO. I think I'm pretty late in the news now, I'm sure that a lot of these will come in the future but for me, I think it's a good thing. Why? What I do is follow these hypes and when there's hype there's a lot of movement into some coins and that was a good opportunity to scalp honestly and knowing crypto you'll know how crazy it gets when it pumps (same as crash of course) but if you managed to get along with the hype, you'll definitely earn good profit.

All of these are funding mechanisms, and just like the real world, you either make a smart investment or an uninformed one. Many people made uninformed investments in the crypto world. It wasn't the mechanisms, it was the projects and the people who fueled the scams and failures. It doesn't matter what's next...everything will continue to be the same until people are smarter and projects are better planned, have a product, and serve a genuine need/use case.

I believe that the people who are currently making uninformed investment decisions/gambling on shitcoins today probably think that they could get lucky like the shitcoin gamblers during the last bull cycle, and the bull cycle during 2016 and 2017. BUT the market has changed and people have gotten smarter. That's probably why there will not be an "Altcoin Season" where they know they'll lose their money. They will simply HODL Bitcoin.

I agree. I think that shitcoins now = memecoins. I suppose it's not a bad thing, as now memecoins have separated good projects with real products from what should be considered as just an idea/meme. Anything without a product should be considered a memecoin. People are getting smarter and I hope that eventually they will be able to distinguish a project with a real product/technology from a meme/idea easily.

Plus at least the memecoins during those market cycles before the existence of Ethereum and other networks like it actually had Proof Of Work that supported them. Dogecoin may be a memecoin but there's an army of miners that secure the network. The hashing power spent to mine the coin makes the coin have a "likeness" of value, although it's still a shitcoin. The shitcoins today = mere "printed" tokens that absolutely have no value.

Each token sale creates hype when they are launched. It was a trend, and when the trend and hype were over, they were just gone. I think even IEO, which had the most potential, is also failing lately. Not much exchange interested to launch IEO, and selection is also quite complicated. Big exchanges like Binance also do not launch too many brand-new projects. It's because whatever you call IDO or ICO, all kinds of token sales are just to raise funds. Then most of the projects don't care about further developments and marketing; hence, investors aren't much interested in investing in any initial launch.

Investors are moving to solid altcoins lately instead of initial coin launches. Very rarely have I seen projects succeed after initially selling tokens. But still projects are launching and scamming investors. Recently I have noticed I can't raise too much from the IDO. I am familiar with a couple of launchpads; all are almost dead. Investors are leaving them because they are losing on every project. I believe initial selling trends are over for now. There must be someone who becomes a pioneer and succeeds before a new system in token sales finally appears, and no one will know for sure what new thing will boom, but in my opinion the new sales system will no longer be as successful as ICO and others, investors are no longer interested because they see how this system is used to deceive them and most new projects are just repetitions without any real use case.

Glad you agree, I didn't bother to start correcting what I thought shouldn't have been in the Shitcoin section as I didn't want to derail this into a big debate about it (we all do our own research and have our own beliefs!) though I agree with you that UNI and Chainlink don't belong in shitcoins, both have very real products and generate revenue...NEAR too (Good tech but questionable tokenomics, should've been much more successful than it has been I think!). Hyperliquid, aave, kaspa, are a few others in there that don't deserve to be (hyperliquid is a hugely successful decentralized exchange, aave a long-time leader in decentralized lending/borrowing, kaspa a POW chain that has been quite successful in innovating scaling on POW chains).

The more I look at the image, the more I think that someone has made it just to confuse people...they could have picked so many other things to put in the shitcoin section, except they chose successful memes and projects with products, promise or even success (even pepe and shiba inu can be considered successful to a degree, because of their communities and performance since inception - though they could be considered successful memecoins/shitcoins I suppose ). If you see at the tokenomic with most of 99% project you'd notice right off the bat that they're indeed deserve to be in shitcoin category.
It's always like that, only very few coin can be considered gem and finding one is as easy as just picking the coin with most trading volume.

The rest are just nuisance. Just see how many coin have been rugged these past few months from mantra to kinto, etc.

Premarket is the worst of them all. Projects and their listing sites don't even do anything to protect the interest of investors. In most cases, tokens take undue time to get listed and when they do list, they list below price. I see this the same way as Presale and Private sale.

So long as a system is managed and handled by humans, there will be that element of evil. Something must corrupt the system. That shouldn't surprise anyone. Being watchful is the key to escaping getting scammed.

This is how project developers profit, with pre-market prices exceeding their trading prices. This isn't aligned with the project's value and isn't transparent. They simply aim for a stable price when a downturn occurs, but in reality, they don't have the funds to maintain their market price.

But altcoins are essentially scams. Over time, projects disappear, become unused, or even abandoned by their own developers. This happens frequently, making it a significant risk at this time.

You already stated that you are not current in what is happening in that sector now so it's understood.  For clarity, all the listed methods of TGE have all happened and are still in place now and not something that will happen in the future. Some of the newer versions like STO and IEO( which was created to ensure the token get listed in the exchanged it was sold) are different improvements to ICO and the earlier versions. To me, the method of TGE plays a good role in the success of the token but the overall future of the token depends on the utility and also the team behind the project. If the team are smart and innovative and are able to build a reputation, then the chances of success of project will increase significantly.

Ethereum deserves to be BELOW the third row with the other Proof Of Stake shitcoins in my opinion. If their developers didn't throw Proof Of Work out of the window, then MAYBE it deserves to be in the third row.

It depends how you look at it. Ethereum's network works with POS, and it works well. It's not to say it's as good as Bitcoin, though it works (is all I'm saying).

If you think of aspects like age, supply distribution, tokenomics, etc. Ethereum is good for its use case (as is Monero, which has its ups and downsides too but good for its privacy use case).

Anyhow, NotATether did not make the image - it was just an example pulled from somewhere. I'd agree that the image needs a lot more work to make it accurate, it's pretty bad categorization but the concept of what they're attempting is good.

As for what’s next maybe something like community quests or proof-of-effort-based launches might gain traction something where people earn allocation based on contribution not just capital but even then the same risks apply if there’s no strong fundamentals or clear utility. At the end of the day the model might evolve but without accountability and real use cases the outcomes will keep repeating. DYOR, stay sceptical during hype and don’t let FOMO override logic.

The list you made simply represents different ways people invest in new projects so it will be wrong to state that the method of investment failed because it is actually the project themselves that failed. There have been successful projects that launched through each of the methods you mentioned. Therefore, blame those shitcoins and not the method through which people invested in those projects.

The individuals that hyped this different method of investing into new projects are the ones to blame because they made it seems like the methods are going to last forever and made many people invest money in general failed projects through these means. It doesn't matter how many of this crowdfunding method that fails, newer methods will get introduced to the market because most individuals in the cryptocurrency industry are looking for ways to make quick money and they believe that getting into projects early helps in achieving that which isn't a lie but not all projects are worth investing into because they don't have any future.
