You didn't see it because I decided to be "good" and put it in the "Politics & Society" sub-forum. As I point out in that post, Godaddy goes by many names, including "Domains By Proxy" "Wild West Domains". The most highly rated comment of this reddit thread explains how to avoid such pitfalls. In general, watch for the star trademark in the logo and avoiding any registrar making use of "SECURESERVER.NET."

Godaddy always sucked, SOPA support is just another item in their suck list.
Only the fact of Godaddy stealing domains people search in their site is reason enough to keep me away from them.

Of course, but even those reasons are not powerful enough to argue or convince some or all human existences to not do business with them. It seems more powerful that their acceptance of SOPA is a strong reason to not do business with them. This post is an effort to spread awareness of those who do business with the evilness that is GoDaddy and perhaps an effort to convince them to not do so any longer.

An important post in my opinion. SOPA is something everyone in this community should be well aware of and very strongly against. Any company supporting SOPA should be in immediate and absolute boycott. The last thing any Internet advocate wants or a Bitcoin advocate for that matter, is SOPA.

I have always been on the edge about godaddy. They have provided me good support and service for YEARS but also have been on the wrong side of numerous issues. With this one they are shooting themselves in the foot on so many levels. Under the guise of protecting American business and jobs, SOPA will actually cause both to disappear when foreign customers of American businesses realize that they will now be under control of that law if they use the same companies. Most probably my new domain host will NOT be based in America. It will be starting the process of moving away from goaddy in the first week of the new year if they do not reverse their position on SOPA. It will be a hard processes and while overall it will not cost money, it will cost money up front as most registrars require an extension with the move.

the concern that SOPA could somehow be used for censorship is reasonable and understood.
what do people who oppose SOPA suggest instead for dealing with and or fighting piracy though? from producers' perspective current dcma is poorly effective.

I'm looking for a registrar with sub-10-dollar renewal fees for com/net/org/in domains, and a pretty and functional administration interface.
If anyone has any recommendations or even referral codes, feel free to post them.

What has piracy to do with sopa? Nothing. Oh there is PIRACY in the name? So if i call it "anti terrorism act" it automagically become a thing against terrorism? Wait so if i call it "anti drug acts"...

As any government censorship, sopa will only hurt honest ppl. Pirates are already doing illegal things, one more won't stop them. Pirates will probably keep doing what they are already doing

other than cases similar to wikileaks, i don't see how SOPA could be effectively utilized to censorship internet. people would take a notice and react so pretty much censoring with SOPA would be counter-productive as people won't be stopped from talking and spearing information, not in this day and age.
on the other hand piracy is pretty much mainstream now with torrents, firesharers, and streaming sites. if you think SOPA is bad, what could be done instead to effectively downsize piracy on the internet?

if you think SOPA is bad, what could be done instead to effectively downsize piracy on the internet? Oh the old trick of the trolls The "propose something good against X or accept Y" (even if Y isn't related to X in anyway, like sopa with piracy) as i understand, in your view sopa is bad, it has nothing to do with piracy other than sharing common term and it seems you want to completely ignore piracy issue. right? you imply piracy is there to stay and nothing can be done, it will exist forever. to which i can agree with you partially that we won't be able to get rid off it completely. in my view some measures should be taken to protect IP and copyrighted material more effectively than what current laws do. if you can't see or agree that piracy is an issue on the internet today, then there is not much left to talk about i guess on this issue. anyone else care to elaborate what could be done to downsize piracy on the net? or how SOPA could be used to censor the internet? excluding wikileaks example, as it's obvious and probably single instance where sopa could be utilized in such a way.
