I have never been to jail and I have no experience of jail life. But I know that jail life is very difficult because I have seen people in jail, leaving their wives, children, parents, brothers and sisters behind and having to stay in jail for their entire lives and some people have to stay in jail for a specific year. Those who have lived a very difficult life in jail have a lot of good experience about it. However, even though jail life is very difficult, people still have fun there so that people do not feel sad all the time, maybe they have arranged some entertainment like outside life, maybe this is why the gambling system is also operating there. Now it is not right to be disappointed with everything just because of being in jail, of course there should be some arrangements for playing football, playing cricket, playing volleyball, playing today's games and gambling for their entertainment, so that people in jail can get entertainment.

It's basically and truly just their pastime since there's nothing else to do there, play cards and read books if they're available, so there's nothing even wrong with it. I have not been in prison but I understand that those places are the worst place somebody can go because it takes years of your life away and give you no much hope to live for, however I no that gambling could be everywhere but it might not be that easy as it may have seen from the way you say it concerning those in the prison because one thing that almost all the prisoners have in common is fighting to become the strongest person in the place and when they have someone like that he mostly abuse his power to influence the rest including in the gambling because you could win him in gambling and he turn the table around.

I have volunteered as a prison teacher and my job was to teach prisoners in a school. The prison is totally another world and you will begin to wonder how they survive in such conditions.  In this prison, everything, including drug use, gambling, prostitution, cultism, and others, exists. I have never seen people gambling since I am not allowed to visit their cells, but I have firsthand information that they gamble with money, food items, clothing, bed space, and anything that has value. You can gamble with a comfortable sleeping space and sleep on the floor if you lose. I might not be surprised that gambling exists in the afterlife  .

I'm not really surprised with this. However, is this happening in all the prisons around the world? If this happen in almost all the prisons, the prisons never function as it should be. Instead of changing to be a better one, they probably become worse poeple while in prison. It's no wonder they can gamble in prison because things like drugs or sex also exist. By the way, teaching them will be useless if they are still involved with those activities, right?

Smuggling something from outside to inside of prisons is usual things to do so that will not be a problem for them. Bribing the guards is also help them to get what they want from the outside.

This is a common fact. It's very unfortunate that prison guards are still bribeable, so anything can still be done in prison. Even gambling with anything, it is quite possible as long as the prison guards are easily bribed.

Fun topic this is. Well a friend of mine went to jail for like 3 months (he was innocent and went home at trial) and he had some fun stories from there. This happened in Germany by the way. He really likes sports betting and made good money being some kind of bookie for a short while. He told me he got the latest odds from the TV and accepted bets, for cigarettes, coffee or anything other that has some sort of worth. He also told me they were playing poker a lot, for the money they were earning for their shitty jail jobs.

Anyway, gambling inside was just as bad as outside he said. Emotions sometimes boil over and this can end badly.

I dont believe that they gamble for entertainment. It does not look that people in prison are people who search for entertainment or fun in life, or they get that from something else. As gambling for money is forbidden, it does not mean they dont gamble for money. All the money lost and won can be written down on paper (like virtual money), and later asked for debt when a person gets released or ask to find way to give lost money to his people outside jail (and it non of his business how a person who has lost is going to do that).

That's a good reason to prohibit it but does it stop people from gambling, no it doesn't and that's how it's always going to be. When you prohibit something, it only make people want to do them more. I think there should have been better ways for gambling to be discouraged without forcing people to stop through prohibition. Make it allow and see how lesser amounts of people will still be gambling. Soon as they see that it isn't favouring them. They'll look for other things that they can do for entertainment or for making money because that's also the reason people still gamble even in prisons. I don't have personal experience of gambling in prison but I have seen them in movies and it isn't something that I find entertaining because people die from this.

I don't quite understand what the author of the topic wanted to say with this topic. Did you get a sentence and serve it there? Why would normal people know about the prohibitions that exist in prisons? Besides, this sounds like a warning. Well, you can't play there. Well, there is prison currency, like cigarettes and other nonsense, so what? I think that the contingent serving a sentence does not need any entertainment for any action to escalate into hostility and a fight. The author of the topic, a competent post that should have been written by a person who has gone through prison walls, is a warning and advice not to break the laws, so as not to witness the "entertainment" that prisoners indulge in.

I recently read the diaries of a prisoner who admitted that it is very easy to get into trouble there because of your gambling. The order is as follows: first, a person comes to a cell and others look at what he is in jail for, how dangerous he is, how adequate he is, and so on.

Gambling can happen in prison, especially card games are the most frequent kind of gambling they deal on, smuggling a card is not a difficult task to do. Yes, card games are common in prison, it's mostly seen as just a normal game but most of the prisoners users the card game for gambling purpose and like I said before, they already have what serves as stake for them. In movie, there are fictions and nonfiction too. There are effective approach as you have advised, which can be used instead of instant denial on right to gamble in other not to lead into depression, all we may have to do is in finding a suitable condition or remedy that can be out in place in replacement to what has been the addiction, we must also see to it that it's such that is more effective and could drive the chance of seeing a change.

I think it's done there more frequently because that's one of the entertainment they can have while waiting for their sentence to end. I bet the longer they do their time the more they gamble and it will probably ease their boredom of a repeated day in prison.

For sure it isnt allowed in prison not unless if there would be some contraband like having those playing cards or any other things on which those prisoners could be able to make out some gambling activity. It is that totally that legal that there should be no gambling inside on which considering out that prisoners would be rather getting involved with those recreational activities on which this is the usual case to happen. There might be some slight kind of gambling activities but it is that impossible that it cant be totally monitored or something that would be caught out. I do only see these kind of activity on movies and i havent been able to encounter it out or seen on national tv or some reports about gambling inside prison which it would be that understandable that it should tbe that prohibited or not allowed. This could happen on movies, yes., but not on real life situations.

If there might be some playing cards been given just to have that kind of spending up some time or leisure inside then they might be giving out but since there's nothing that they can put on or stake on then it would be just that remain to be that for the sake of fun and entertainment.

Most likely it's just a casual type of gambling place and not a casino type but they probably are calling it the same as the physical casinos that we see.

Bets there could be something different from the outside world and that might include everything they have there.
