If I ever get into prison, gambling will be the last thing I would do there. I will do my best to find a less stressful time killer and entertainment.

This prison gambling usually just fictional since they are well monitored on the CCTV by police while they are not allowed to hold money and other valuable things in the prison most importantly any gambling materials.

Most of the prisoners do task depending on the country. So it’s very rare for prisoners to have allowed time to gamble among prisoners.

Maybe other games such as sports is possible in prison.

Installing CCTV in every cell will definitely violate privacy rules, but it has a good purpose because it can monitor all activities that occur in the cell, including gambling activities. I think it's not just gambling, there are many activities in prison, but the guards still can't supervise them, whether they are negligent or don't care. Gambling is vast, even the warders or security men also bet, not just in a sophisticated way. Prisoners who gamble are more like the influential amongst them who have steady money and visitors coming to check on them. I heard that such prisoners who have wealth in the outside world are also treated differently in the prison.

The special treatments from warders may also include gambling, walking around the restricted territories, and as well eating nice foods. Their close friends or boy may then make up for the number of players in the gaming circle.

I have heard people speaking with prisoners on the phone for a very long time and I have also heard on the news about robbers that planned robberies and kidnappings through phones while still incarcerated, it just shows that they have access to phones. So if prisoners can have access to phones in prisons it means that they can as well gamble online with it, although I believe that the phones will be smuggled in for them. It won't surprise me if physical gambling will be happening a lot in prisons, they can use anything at their disposal to place bets.

You might be too positive. I do not know if you are just from a rich country or you can only think of prisons from rich countries but not all prisons have cameras all around. Most likely they only have in entry and exit points. Some jails in my country literally are overpopulating and it would be naive to think that absolutely nothing illegal is going on and that the police can monitor everything.

Cases like this are quite common --- A friend who has been to prison said that gambling activities were more prevalent there because it was possible to compromise with the officers to keep quiet, meaning that the officers were bribed.
Whether this story is true or not, such actions should not be allowed in prison --- I have only heard about this from a few friends who have been there.

This is a really interesting discussion, in prison I don't think there are the usual bets, on the contrary, people try to exchange their money, little because they are in jail, with unconventional bets or different from how we know them, perhaps dice, or perhaps bets between them, anyway it's interesting

I have no atom of doubt in me concerning what you said, I am simply just surprised because I learnt one more thing, and also have found a possible reason why most of my country men would prefer to be locked up in developed countries like this than get locked up in their own country, because over there and from what you explained, prison may not or doesn't feel like prison, as it tends to be a avenue for the prisoners to really live the life they wanted without getting arrested or convicted, they are supposedly already in prison so.... 🤔 😁

It's worth mentioning that while it may seem like a paradise for inmates, it's all a matter of "respect" on the street, money, and which gang you belong to, because for those at the bottom of the pyramid, they truly live a living hell; some don't even survive.

There might some spots that are not monitored by CCTV and there will be ways for them to gamble. But you might be right as well that it's just all about the TV series' that we see that the prisoners are doing things like gambling because that's how the masses portrait their thoughts on them.

I'll never think that I'd ever get into it even before I think of gambling there. But that's a good choice and I can't imagine what kind of other time killer and pastime they're doing it if they're not gambling. Maybe some programs related to art works and other creative learnings.

Just like taking drugs in prison, it seems like a terrible idea to get involved in gambling because you can end up building up debts that you cannot pay and never be able to escape the people that are owed money. People will inevitably try to find ways to pass the time behind bars, but you hear so many terrible stories about people getting sentences extended because they get wrapped up in situations like this. If you cannot pay, then you might be subject to violence or be expected to pay your debt off by inflicting violence against someone else, or lose what little source of food you have. The prison guards will only be able to protect you so much and you probably don't want to end up in the "special" areas of the prison with an even scummier type of prisoner. Prison is one place you should avoid getting involved with these games.

I like the way you rejected everything . Nobody want to go to prison, it's not a good experience judging from what people that has been there went through, the experience is not good. Most people that are saying one or two things here are doing it based on things they read and what they saw in movies, if we count the number of people that has made reply in this thread, many of them hasn't been to prison on their entire life but they are making it looks like they have been there.

The thing is, prison is full of people that need items and only the well connected people get access to most of the things they get in prison. Now, the people that have nothing has to use gambling as edge to also have access to this things and there best bet is to gamble with people that have this items. Most of the time, it's agree to disagree that often turn to violence later. Some people don't want to admit they loss to their opponents which is why the occurrence of the fight.

I think it depends on the location. There are some places where I think even if gambling takes place in prison, it won't be a problem, even if there is an argument between groups of gamblers. However, I think gambling won't be very healthy in some prisons, especially in the developed world, because if there is a disagreement between other prisoners who are gambling, it could lead to serious challenges that can result in damages and cause something terrible.

Prisons are usually supposed correctional facilities and so it does house people of very different orientation both morally and in every other aspects of lives,  this difference is a good reason enough not to allow certain things while these persons ar kept un the facility with the hope of getting them to be changed and better members of the society again,  when you allow these set of persons gamble,  there is a high risk tendencies of violence at its end do it is best to completely avoid it and let there be no gambling in prison.

I haven’t been to prison before, but I heard from people that have been to prison before, and people that work there about how people gamble. When I heard that I was just kind of surprised because I was thinking how are they going to be gambling, and what are they going to be gambling with until I heard that some of them gamble with their food, if you lose, then you will be losing your meal for that time to the winner, and some prisoners do have money, so they do gamble with it also. I think gambling in prison should always be restricted, because prisoners will end up fighting and injuring each other, which some might even lead to death.

Actually no one wants to be a prisoner, a prison is a prison. I can never imagine being in this prison, but if this prison were not there, then the crime of the people would have increased, which is why this prison has been appointed for the people. The district officer and other officials can prevent this gambling, but they do not prevent it because all the prisoners in the prison are gambling for entertainment and if this entertainment is not provided then they will not have a means of entertainment. Although there is sports, then for those who do not like sports and do not know sports, perhaps gambling is an entertainment.

For the fact that you are in prison, you have being captured of all your freedom and rights, but in as much as they are not authorized to gamble in prison, they still have their way of doing it, mainly those that have been sentenced, like we watch in the films, yes gambling is prohibited in prison,but gamblers are still gambling in prison with the help of the waders, and it is done within the higher level of prisoner in the country because they have a lot of support behind them.

The government does not support gambling because of the problem it will be causing in prison which might eventually leads to more problems or even murder which the government .

Gambling literally differs from region to region even for inmates. In some countries where boxing and a certain kind of fight is famously acceptable, prisoners tend to gamble over which inmate wins a fight. In other places football may be the ground for gambling while some others resolves to card games. The prison authorities can't help to stop everything done by their cohabitates.

It only gets bad that you can't be too strict to thesame prisoners you've been seeing for the past 6 years. They're allowed some privilege to circumvent for their years of suffering. At a later point the inmate may be living a more free lifestyle behind the walls.
