gambling in prison

Ive been to jail and they let me out same day as it was false charges, not sure that counts.  They should have least given me free meal or maybe best they didnt :p    
  You will never stop gambling its part of the human spirit but I would avoid it in a jail as winning will make you unpopular with others, also your winnings makes you a target immediately surely.   The best gamble is risking losing some item you didnt want or need worst case and gaining something you got to have like a phonecall perhaps, maybe that makes sense.

Life in jail is definitely far different from life in the real world, more like they are living a life that is completely opposite upside down of the life we live in the real world, and thank goodness your being to jail wasn't as a result of you commiting any crime but was as a result of fault charges, and thank goodness that you didnt spend up to a day there, for I don't know the country you are from and how the prisons over there is..
Here in my country, hearing stories of people in prison, or even going for a visitation will make you pray never to commit any crime that will land you there(in prison), you also will not even wish for their free meal for that also is poison.

And i agree with your opinion as regards gambling in prison, it's a place where only the strong and the fittess survives, gambling with the intention of winning in such places simply means that you are a strong person who can withstand any form of attack from other inmates who might not be happy with you winning something they themselves had special interest in.

It quite unfortunate that prisoners now adays doesn't learn the hard way or even show a little sign of repentance even after spending long term jail in prison, rather they even got worst than before, prison is a place that is surpose to be a way of punishment for those that  commited crime but it seems it has become an avenue to promote more crime and giving them more gods in committing more crimes, however gambling addiction has proven to be unlimited despite the place, but it  will be better if the authorities could put down possible measures that can be monitoring the affairs of the immate to avoid such situations.

I don't suggest just monitoring these inmates where gambling is involved, I recommend making gambling being  prohibited entirely in prison. The authorities in charge of the prisons should ensure that activities capable of influencing the inmates negatively should not be encouraged in the prison yards

the unfortunate thing is hat the prison environment that is supposed to be a Centre for correction of criminals and subsequently devising means of bringing them back into the society has turned to become an environment where every and anything is allowed to thrive without proper check on how some of these excesses can be stopped. kudos to some of the centers that put in the effort to ensure that anything that has the potential of influencing the inmate negatively is taken out of the way.

because of the way prisoners are separated from the real world, they tend to create a world of their own in the prison environment and engage in activities that keeps them engaged including gambling. the prison's warden ma not be against them doing such since most of the inmate do not have enough resource to gamble to a stage where they can be termed as addict.

You are right in all you've said. Some years back, there was rumours in my country that there was a prison break and that some prisoners had escaped from prison (I don't know how true that information was). There were lots of panic in my region because people kept believing that the prison environment makes one more hardened than being transformed positively. So, those prisoners who escaped were definitely a threat to the society. (This is a bit an off topic, just want to buttress my point).

We were not supposed to be scared of people who left prisons if their activities there were checked properly. I watch in movies too where prisoners kinda bet on themselves to fight each other, the winner takes the price. I don't know if such happens in real prisons, if it happens, then the prison authorities are not doing enough to reform offenders
