Everything has its pros and cons. Gambling does have its pros irrespective of all the negative effects it can and do have on people.
Some people have claimed to feel thrilled while some have claimed to have felt relaxed. People feel differently when gambling but nothing compares to the feeling of winning and getting money in the process.

I often encounter what you mentioned, such as obtaining a code or other means without depositing any personal funds. This happens to a friend of mine who is always lucky in prediction contests and wins prizes. However, I myself am not as lucky in this regard. I also participate but have never won a prize.
