I saw this thread on the Meta board and I decided to bring it here since here is our beginners board where newbies always visit so they can see the strategy some people are using in order to scam newbies here in this forum.
I'm sure this is not the only newbie that oletiteb may have sent the message to and even though this account has been banned I'm still very sure he may have other accounts he or she is using to send messages like this to newbies in this forum.
Their targets in the forum are always newbies because they know old forum members won't fall for their scam easily and because newbies are naive about the forum they decide to go for them.
Please all newbies in this forum be very careful don't give in when you receive messages like this even if it is from a legendary member.
And lastly report anybody that sent you scam messages so dey can be disciplined by the forum.

So, I log in today and find this scammy PM. I wonder how actually common this is. Can I request this user banned until Sun is gone?

Well kodus for opening this thread, I believe this thread will be helpful for newbies, since scam can't be eliminated totally in this forum members that have been in the forum for long should always report scams when they see them so that newbies can note them and stay away from them. I can remember back then when I was a New this kind of PM have been sent to me before, not only once not even twice but many times. Newbies should always note of all this scams and stay guided, for they are the ones scammers always target since they are still New to the forum.
Here is one of the PM I received when I was a newbie back then.

Newbies, and even veteran, members sjould be cautious when they receive PMs from random users. Actually, this applies to all other platforms, not just this forum.

Glad to know that the scammer got banned. But since scams are not moderated on bitcointalk then he was most likely banned for sending unsolicited PMs. Good riddance!

This scam tactics have been around for a while now but only old members are aware and know how to protect themselves from such scam attempts, newbies lack the know how to checkmate all of those kind of phishing and scamming attempts, so this thread will definitely helps alot of newbies to avoid reaching out to anyone that randomly contact the with an offer.

Newbies should know that know legit business will send you a DM forst to place you an offer; it must be a scammers attempts if any of such happens, and dont get carried away with the mouth watering promises all of that is just to lures you into their scamming scheme.

The funniest thing is that the scammers always target the newbies because they know they are the easy ones to get and they feel like they are desperate to make money online, so dragging their attention outside the forum is going to be easy for them to scam them.

So for beginners, they need to be careful with these scammers because they are very good at all this; they have many ways to scam people. That is why people are saying any business outside the forum is very sick. As long as you and the person meet here in the forum, it is safer to do business openly.

Actually is good to create awareness, but everytime we do emphasise on newbies, it's obvious that been newbies here doesn't mean that they're newbie in brain, even without be told if you see anyone who coming to scam you will know

The level of scam is high and many people are conscious of scam both here and other social media, since we have been emphasing on newbie, do you know that throughout my time in this community I have not seen anyone or a newbie who complained that it's been scammed in this forum, so everyone is on alert via scammers.

I did portray my points to dispute your points, but we should also know that we can be victim of scam in one or two ways, so let the preamble should be that everyone should be on alert via scam as I portrayed initially.

We can't fully cub the scam attempts on a public forum as this, but we can inform everyone, not just newbies so they stay alert of the potential risks of falling into the hands of these scammers... Most times they redirect their targets off the forum to other external sites or social media where they may not longer be noticed until their evil deed is done. So it's very paramount that you report any unsolicited pms you receive on this forum and avoid contacting anyone that kinda offers you a deal you didn't ask for.. stay safe you all...

Good suggestion. Every user should have this setting disabled so that they don't receive PMs from newbies.

I've been noticing lately, that the amount of scams are on a rise, especially during the times when the cryptocurrency market is doing pretty well and Bitcoin along with other cryptocurrencies are going high. For some reason, these scammers become more active during these times, maybe because they want to make as much money as possible during such times and use it in the market or whatever, but I just observed this.

Besides such scams, when there is a bull run, we can also find a bunch of scams in the market, in the form of projects that try their best to gain as much hype as possible so that they can get a good number of investors and then they rug pull by selling the tokens in their possession and run away with the money, leaving investors in awe.

There is an option to receive and don't receive PMs from newbies and depends on your need, you can check or uncheck it. If you are a businessman, with a service in the forum, allowing newbies to send you PMs is almost neccessary for your business. As non-business forum member, if you are experienced, you see no harm in receiving PMs from newbies, except kind of annoyance if any.

This is a personal choice in profile customization, and everyone have different choices.

This information is really helpful especially to upcoming members that aren't all that active here in the forum, there are lots of members here that will still fall for some simple scam like this and besides some of these links will look tempting for them especially when there are offers attached to it.

Most at times I think what I see outside this community is the sending of phishing link to email account that is closely related to the original and this can be a method to hack even your system if the scammers know what there are doing so it's good to stay vigilant and active for news and info's so you don't fall a victim.

Scammers has been around for a long term now and most people has been falling victim expecialy the newbies but not to the experience people. I have received countless messages from some guys who has already received a red trust, sending me pm to buy an account trying to drag me to telegram where I can fall prey but I knew who they are and I decided not to respond them. I just ignore them. The best way to free from the is just to ignore them. But I'd they persis to disturb you then you can report to admin as notocactus has suggested from the link he provided, as that could be a possible solution.

It is true and not only for newbies. Any PM from anyone who is either a newbie or a legendary account, but if comes with a very good offer - such "too good too be true" offer - must be considered very carefully and cautiously. It's because such offers are unrealistic and almost likely 100% scam offers.

It isn't right to assume PMs from legendary accounts are not scam offers but in general scammers try to send PMs including offers that can catch attention of receivers. Receivers who are careful, not neccessarily to be experienced, can see it is a scam offer and ignore it. Receivers, oppositely, who are careless but greedy enough, will believe in that offer and get scammed.

The best advice to newbies is to ignore unsolicited PMs, it is not a crime if you don't respond to a PM especially the ones that wants to lead a discussion outside the forum. Secondly is for newbies not to click on any links that are sent privately, it could be a phishing link that will direct them to where they will be scammed. It is sad that scammers will use a reputable forum like this to mislead newbies because the newbies will believe almost anything that they are told privately thinking that it must be correct and authentic. Bitcointalk is a reputable forum but it's not every members of the community that have integrity so newbies should know this and not totally trust anything that they are told in private, this is an open forum and whatever anybody has to say should be said in the open.

Certain important questions to ask yourself when you receive this kind of unsolicited pm;

1. Why didn’t they go public on the matter; there is a service board and bounty board as well?
2. What qualifies me and not others to have been chosen as “part of those who want to make it in cryptos”?
3. What product, service or value are we exchanging in order to “make it in crypto”?
4. What’s my part in this and how can it impact me?

Get around this and certain curious questions then, you would see reasons why you shouldn’t give a single minute of your time to these scums.

 The target audience are usually newbies because they can easily be convinced into thinking there's a separate group for learning crypto. If that was the case then there wouldn't have been any use for the forum. Good call, Op to bring this thread over here; that way you've averted a huge problem from happening since it's possible that some of them may have had PM's like this but don't know how to go about it.
Can't it be possible that newbies don't get the access to send others PM, no matter the rank the person they want to send it to is except they have gotten to a higher rank like member rank?
