Lol, this is funny, especially because I feel barber was successfully able to deceive them robbers that those $9 in crypto was all he got and this is precisely why hidden wallets can come handy.

Though, I guess it won't be a long before attackers start to figure that there is thing called hidden wallets too, and they would pressure much much more until victim gives up for real.

What if the criminals don't want to leave witnesses and decide to kill the victim?
Plausible deniability can be the cause of your death. There are many funny moments in this story, but I don't believe that the barber outsmarted the kidnappers.
The press also likes to write beautiful stories, and I do not envy this poor guy. He learned a good lesson for life, and he is lucky to stay alive.

Think about it, they caught the wrong person, and instead of admitting their mistake and minimizing their crime, they forced the victim to give them $2,700. And for this they get a long prison sentence.
They didn't want their weeks or months of effort [collectively] to be a complete waste of time Tongue The latter part is what makes me laugh the most... These four kidnappers might spend up to 14 years in prison for stealing an amount that equates to only £500 for each one of them Cheesy
- BTW, the article that "DailyMail" posted seems to have the most details (e.g., it took three months to track them and a few other things).

Nearly every other week these days we keep getting STARK reminders not to share your information publicly.
Literally any and all information you volunteer will be used against you. We haven't secured a society where being jumped is an impossibility. A

And the more inequality that gets projected there's going to be more and more people that go into crime to fulfill that fake desire of money.
In this environment, if you have extravagant cash, you're a target. If you have volunteered such information, even if you're lying, some idiot might be after you. So better just lay low. The smaller the amount of info you let out, the fewer the people that know anything, the better.

That's what I'm saying, these are idiots, not criminals.
They acted as a group, they had weapons, they planned the crime. If they hadn't taken the money, they would have gotten a much lighter sentence with a good lawyer.

They rented an apartment on Airbnb, they took the victim's personal belongings.
