Can we do something about the league threads in the Gambling Discussion board?

English Premier League, for example. Over the years, they have grown in number and all seem to be active. Right now I can spot 3 of them in front page, there could be more. The same thing is probably happening with other league competitions.

Can we come to a consensus and have at least one dedicated thread per league, while the others stay locked by the mods?

I think this has been discussed before and nothing was done about it. So this thread will not also likely be considered.

I noticed Jollygood has edited his own thread and included the name of a gambling site which makes it look like a sponsored thread.

Exactly those were the 3 threads that were reported in the past and nothing was done.

They're important because signature campaign require to post in gambling board, so having three active same thread in gambling board will make people able to meet the requirement easier since we only need to understand one thing, then spread it into three threads.

The first Premier League thread was created by @Trofo back in August 2020 before Jollygood's self moderated thread in September 2020. Although that of Trofo have been the most engaging thread, so it will be hard to get rid of them. And for that of  Blue Snow, I think the original idea was to have old threads locked and start a new Premier League thread afresh every new season, just like it is on other league thread. Unless I'm mistaken, that was the initial plan. Obviously it didn't go as planned.

This situation isn't new and many members in that board sometimes mistaken the last topic they commented in. I tried myself to regroup few less popular and seasonal competitions altogether here, but it didn't fully worked as planned and people started creating their own topics about these competitions.
Do not forget that the attitude of few signature campaigns to not include posts in mega threads contributed to this mess, partially at least.

Yes, I'm the one who started this discussion before, which was then followed by other similar threads and the same thing happened again. No changes at all.
They just let it be and enjoy those threads. Not gonna lie, but it's starting to look complicated now; I mean, it feels kind of spammy, you know.

I think the Premier League thread is the busiest thread ever. Lol, especially when the English league starts again and another one with the Premier League sponsor pool, only certain people can post there.

I do not regularly visit those threads but I think some concerns has been raised before. Now, let's look it into two angles; some people might be visiting there to complete their post quota and while some people might be visiting there for real discussion, and some managers doesn't accept post counts above 10 pages which makes it good but, that doesn't help or change anything because others do accept. Another thing to also considered is that if two or three are being closed then leaving only 1 thereabouts the spam would be much because almost same thing that was discussed in other threads could be repeated on in the single thread.

So, the bottom line is, we should allow them to active as much discussion are being held there and one thread or topic wouldn't be enough for all the discussions about leagues.

Since Cyrus and hilariousandco are the moderators in the gambling board, I guess maybe they are too busy to look in to that and make there decisions or maybe they already did and found it quite entertaining since the threads are still in sharp no matter how long or how many pages it has gone.

Firstly, it's not in our hands to allow them exist, if any of the mods wakes up today and decides to lock them we don't have any powers to do anything about it, however as long as they serve different purposes they can co exist, personal opinion.

I think the first is spammers paradise and should be locked, the second and last are both clean and should be left open. Imo

He's a lover of English football but I'm not sure he gambles. Never seen him in that situation.

I see it more as a matter of dividing arguments, since even though the threads may seem to be aimed at the same topic, they generally aren't talking about the same thing in their back pages. Therefore, I find it more enjoyable and easier to digest than a single thread. If different subtopics are lumped into one, it would be difficult to maintain a pleasant discussion.

I'm currently more concerned about the existence of self-moderated threads in the gambling section. I think if a malicious person creates a thread and then decides to get rid of everything before finishing a campaign, it could ruin the week for many. So, be careful with threads self-moderated by newbies.

Maybe you should you know, if it’s not against the rules, it would stay otherwise, you would as well see it out.

You find more of a discontinued discussion and users whom would just hop from each EPL thread to a duplicate thread just to make the same contribution in the next. It doesn’t help the gambling board very much.

Agreed. Having duplicate topics on the same league discussion helps spammers to duplicate their posts easily..

The OP of those threads should be tagged here to also help facilitate the request. It's hard to keep up to conversation when everything goes down real quick.

Yeah the trend should just continue, if there's no punishment, it mean it's allowed. The limit is when the moderators take action over the thread, IIRC there were four threads about Premier League, but there was no action taken.

Yeah you can do it, that's help people to not post in mega threads.

I think if someone creates a new thread about the Premier League again, their thread will be deleted. But the ones already become bigger will remain. I assume the solution could be locking two of them and keeping one of them open. These threads could have been moderated a long time ago. One more thing; the self-moderated threads have a note like - this thread is self-moderated, create your own thread if you don't want to be moderated. So, I am curious what if people create more and more threads just because they don't want to be moderated. This is one of the reason why multiple threads are allowed sometimes (I assume).

Obviously. Everyone will pick the specific topic of the competition whenever available.
In fact, for the record, my topic was created before the existence of several competitions so when people started creating them, traffics moved there.
The problem right now is what you pointed, the presence of two topics, sometimes a third self moderated one.. But also I wonder why we continue posting in a very old topic that is running for 3, 4 seasons? It would be better to create another discussion topic every season.

Though not relevant to the point raised in the OP, most of the threads in the Gambling Discussion board are not self-moderated therefore many are flooded with signature spammers and attention-seekers. All of my threads in that board are self-moderated.

As for consensus, I doubt you will find it because it is probably too late to censor/lock existing threads related to football or any other sport/topic in the Gambling Discussion board. They have been running for years without being locked. The precedent has already been set (by non-interference of admin) therefore I cannot see how anything will change.
