SOS! how can a new user change their display name (not the account username)

 halo guys, im a new user from china on the bct forum. when i signed up, i used my favorite number "6" as my username (since "f" is the 6th letter).  but after registering, i found out i couldnt change my display name — it has to match the username, which really freaked me out. i wanna change my display name to "bitsato" (from "bitcoin" + "satoshi", cuz satoshi nakamoto is my idol).[color=blue][/color]

if im active on the forum using this random username, ppl might think i'm a spammer or just clueless, and it makes it harder for others to take me seriously or help me out when i post stuff.

 rn im really stressed and kinda embarrassed. can anyone plz tell me how to change my display name (not the username!)?

You do not have to post in Chinese on a general board. If you want to post in Chinese, you can use the Chinese local board instead. Either post in English here or post in Chinese on your local board.

As for your question, you can not change your username. Theymos can do it but you are newbie and he will not do it because of that until you become an established member. Just register another account instead if you want to use another username.

Default, your username is also your display name.

Username and display name are only different in special cases and your case is not special.

99% is you can not change your usersname, surely not by yourself, but even with requests sent to forum admins, theymos and Cyrus.
You need to give theymos very big reasons to convince him changing your username in your request letter.
Only moderators, Donators, and VIP members can change their names.
Change email randomly, change password strongly & log out

As suggested above by _act_ above, just create a new account. If you worry about having multiple accounts, don't worry. The forum has no rule against that.

If requests are approved by theymos, he can change display name to a different one than username but not easily to get approval from theymos.

A new user created an account and quickly no longer likes that username is not a reason to force theymos doing this change. So an easier choice for OP is abandon this account and create a new one with a username he likes.

Each user has a display name, which is the only name ordinary users see, and a username, which is what you use to log-in with. Almost always, they are the same.

If I change a name for reasons of appearance, then I only change the display name. The username remains reserved, the user can still login using the username, PMs can still be sent to that username, "search member" allows searching for the old username, etc.

If I change a name for reasons of privacy, then I change both the username and the display name. In this case, it is possibly hazardous to reserve the old username, since it allows someone to test for the existence of that username, possibly defeating the privacy benefit. If you're worried about being impersonated, then simply don't seek to have your username changed.

You've already been given the best tip: just create another account and don't log in with this one anymore
It's too much work to contact the admin, explain why you want to change your name, etc

Since your account is new, you don't have any merits and haven't made any trades here, so you won't lose anything 

The admin may accept a name change when your account is older, when you have a good reputation, and when you have a good reason to change (mainly privacy)

To give you an edge to why you don't have to worry about the username is that... The forum is only interested of what you have to offer and the position to give you what you want if possible. This place is not discriminatory to where you come from or neither interested of the meaning of your username.
I can bet that lot of usernames in the forum are meaningless and no one cares about them while affirmative users are doing so well. What should be the priority is the basic obligations to why you are here.

Quite funny to say... If username comfortability really matters, a lot would had changed theirs. Probably I would had also changed mine X100 now but since that is not a significant to what we are here for.
It is of no essence so, I advice you should just strive on your interests here.
Just be legitimate and resourceful to others with your knowledge and don't let concept of username bother you.

All usernames are random, it is the personality that the user behind the keyboard gives that is attributed to the account, this means you give life to the username and not the other way around. If you are consistent and active, posting helpful things and trying to learn, no one will assume you are a spammer and you will be taken seriously.

You can wait for the response for theymos. He responds to some requests to change usernames sometimes, usually from higher ranking members but also sometimes from lower ranks with good reason.

What were you thinking before  you created your account with that username that you want to change because your account is not up to four days old and you only made a post today to change your username. It's better that you open a new account as suggested by the posters above. There is no reputation to keep.
