Is the United nations still functioning.

We have an organization called United nations and one of the main reason for setting up this organization was to help prevent war and we have about 193 countries that are members of this organization however we have been seeing war happening everywhere in the world currently and I'm not seeing them taking a good action to make sure this wars stop is it that this 193 countries are not working as one, I thought this organization set up a court that we settle any dispute between two countries why are countries that are having issue not going to that court to settle there dispute why are dey just fighting each other.
Why can't this countries that form the United Nations organization find a way to make sure that every country that has dispute with each other resolve their issues in the court rather than fighting each other and killing people.
And any country that refuses to abide by the court order should be sanctioned by this 193 countries this way countries will stop fighting each other.
I'm not seeing the united nations doing anything reasonable to stop this wars.
People are dying and war has brought hunger to some war victims.

Yeah the UN still works but it’s not perfect. They can help stop wars or calm things down mostly through peace talks, sanctions or sending peacekeepers. But they can’t always stop a war if big powerful countries don’t agree. They also help protect countries by giving aid, supporting refugees & monitoring human rights. The UN has as its goal the improvement of the global banking system, the West's banking system.

The UN is not really mindful of its own Charter. Before Russia started the war with Ukraine, Putin filed Article 51 of the UN Charter to show what he was doing and why. It was a police action against the Ukraine government for warring against their own people who wanted to take their 'states' out of Ukraine.

The UN simply did not go along with Putin because the UN is in favor of the Western banking systems. The thing that Putin was doing and still is, is going against the Western banking systems' attempt to take over the money of the whole world. But the UN is on the side of the Western banking systems.

The UN isn't about peace and freedom. They're about banking control.

The UN is functioning, but everybody is starting to wake up to the fact that they are not following their own Charter. They are following the desires of the Western banking system. They have been caught in a big bold lie.

I think that the current POTUS Trump does not understand or does not really believe in what was the UN goal: Prevent wars by creating a forum in which Diplomacy could occur.

Of course it is not perfect and it has failed to prevent several wars and since some countries have a veto, it fails to resolve controversial issues. However at least is there and facilitates the countries speaking to each other.

Now, if Trump decides that UN is an extension of his whim and is threating to stop financing unless it bends to his will, all the orinal purpose is lost and there will be more violence and less diplomacy.

Yes of course, the United Nations organisation is still working, but only in favor for big powers.

According to the charter of the UN, when a country attack on another country, the UN has to interfer to suppress aggression. When Irak attack on Kuweit in nineties, many countries participated in a military operation against Irak to suppress the aggression including arab countries in the neighborhood of Irak like Syria and Egypt. But when the USA attack on Irak in 2003 without any valid reason, no one in the UN talked about respecting the charter even after approving that Irak has no nuclear arms as the USA claims at that time.

The situation is getting worse after then when we see the zionist attack on Lebanon and Palestine several times, without the UN being able even to agree on a condemnation resolution due to the veto system in the Security Council (I prefer to call it the Council of Terror).

infact it was isreal/US itself that tried to get hamas to the negotiation table with using qatar as the hosting country.

however, the UN want to recognise hamas as a legitimate government, to continue control of gaza. the UN has not sought to request hamas to lay down its arms

heck, the UN also dont want other countries sending in aid into gaza. the UN asked egypt to step back, the UN even asked isreal and us to step back,  the UN asked other arab nations to step back and instead asked them all to just leave food at the border and let hamas bring it inwards of the border

even the UN's own stockpile of food is left at the border because they dont want other aid agencies taking it inwards.. the UN itself wont even send its own volunteers or workers inwards, they know its not safe for even them, so they just want to keep the peace and say it hamas that need to take the food in
and thats why UN aid is left to rot while isreal is actually trying to fed palestinians, even if isreal have no legal responsibility to feed them

Yeas I can remember those days when we hears the UN representatives involving on parties disputes to curb the ugly situation and bargains on dialogues.
I remember those days when you hear the UN military is situated at a waring zone for peace keeping while strives on restoring peace amongst the disputing parties.

But of the truth, it seems Politics has taken place whereas, the UN is not too active or influential on cases like this unlike before.

It's due to these countries if they are deemed to allow any of their representative sit in a table with other representatives for peace talks. The UN is in the midst of it as the mediator for all of the peace talks that shall be done. But if the other party isn't willing to cooperate, we won't see them sit in any of them and have a meal together. There is no solution to a country that doesn't want to cooperate despite with all of the efforts and coordination done by them. As said, they're not perfect but we shouldn't deny that they're doing its job.

You are right on that. It is significant that the UN also offers a platform, representatives of such conflicting countries can get together. Without said platform, there would not even be an opportunity of dialogue. Naturally, peace talks can be effective only when the people on both sides are eager to collaborate, and unfortunately, it does not happen constantly. Yet, it is an essential measure to have a neutral ground to be discussed, even when the dynamics is slow. It displays that at least they are trying to seek solutions and this is better than having no dialogue in the first place.

The UN is still functioning very well however the problem is that those country that are heading the UN and not obeying the charter thereby making other country disobeying the charter too and since they are not being the charter it is impossible for them to function according to the charter, The United Nations Security Council has five permanent members with veto power China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, now this countries that has this veto power in the security council is not even obeying the UN charter so this is one of the problem in the United Nations.
If only this big countries that has Veto power in security council can decide to obey the UN charter then this wars happening in different countries we stop.
Right now when war is happening in a country this countries that has veto power in his security council we now decide to side one side of the country instead of trying to settle the problem for Peace.

The United Nations, as any other organization, depends on the synchronization and sharing of common objectives of their members, if the organization does not have any of that then it is just matter of time for it to fail in it's objectives.
Let us just take a look at India and it's relationship with the United States. Trump wants India to stop buying energy from Russia, but India does not plan to stop.

If the United Nations worked effectively, then most of their members would blacklist warmongering countries and isolate them completely from international markets, effectively forcing them to stop their military actions.

I believe the United Nations still have some use, but they have lately failed to stop calamities and wars, because of the lack of commitment by its members.

United nation, is not longer the way it used to be, the organization has been politicize and they have deviated from their mandate, of protecting the right of every members state. As of today the united nation are selective in their sanction, they only sanction countries that the USA are not in good term with, because the USA fund 70% of it activities.

From inception, the organ of the united nation was arranged to favour the western world, a whole Africa does not have a member of the security organ of United nation, the organ with veto power. United nation was created to weaken third world countries.

It’s hard to do this if one is involved in or supporting these wars and is part of the Security Council. Russia is at war against Ukraine, and the United States is supporting Israel against Iran.
And there’s a brewing war between China, Taiwan, and the Philippines.

They can stop small wars between small countries, but not big wars involving a superpower. The United Nations can only ask for talks or threaten sanctions, but its military power lies with the members of the Security Council, who are perpetrators of wars.

The united nations is still functioning but we have to understand that they are dealing with independent sovereign countries so there must be limits to how they interfere in conflicts and wars between member countries. There roles are basically to prevent and de-escalate conflicts and wars but if it happens they try to give relief to innocent civilians. I believe that their capacity is mainly in mediations to resolve issues between countries, I also want to believe that without the interferences of the UN we would be having many crisis, wars, deaths and uncountable casualties. Leaders and officials in the UN might be biased in carrying out their duties but it is definitely not what the UN stands for, their main priority is world peace.

United Nation was formed in 1945 shortly after the second world war to mitigate the effect of the war. Therefore, it primary responsibility is to maintain friendly development, international peace and security, increase standard of living, to discourage human right abuse and crime. Those are part of its responsibility but op has pointed out rightly in the question to ask if they actually exist giving the fact that we are observing incessant wars. They have not been able to sanction offending countries in war to send signal of their watch dog responsibility.

I think the reason that they have become toothless is probably as we have different factions of organizations that different countries now belong to and form aligns. For example, would un be sanctioning Russia when Russia is an active member of BRICS or sanctioning NATO member countries? I think these different groups now play the military and security role of UN, who are now left with social development and giving humanitarian aid.

It takes two to tango and it takes time for all concerned countries to start talking about it. But if the other has a grudge to the other party and even after the talks, we'd see if there's a betrayal on their end. We've seen Ukraine's president Zelenskyy went to the US to talk to Trump but he seemed humiliated. And the upcoming one is Trump and Putin in Alaska, so, there could be a positive development for all concerned parties in agreement. While the UN and push for all of the countries concerned onto this deal because they're more concerned of the affected citizens than what these leaders have to say.
