I checked the line and as expected, Australia is the heavy favorite.

Before that game, there’s also Iran vs New Zealand for the bronze medal, with NZ sitting at -9.5.

I will not gonna fall again on that high handicap score because it usually a trap. I knew China was strong but Australia is on different level on this league.

Still I have a tingling feeling that China can manage an upset or at least cover that point spread.

Probably NZ can’t get over to the upset match they suffer against China that’s why they lost confidence already on closing the game in 3rd place.

New Zealand (Tall Blacks) usually plays a fast and physical style game with a strong guard play. However, today they seemed off color, while on the other hand, Iran relies heavily on veteran big men, but their perimeter scoring can be inconsistent. Yet they managed to get a bronze medal. Remember Iran lost the semi final match against by a big margin 48-92 against the strong Australian side.

I just checked now the result and my hunch is correct that China can cover this point spread with great margin.

China manage to give tough fight to Australia which they are already winning on all quarters except on the last quarter which they let Australia manage to get the momentum to close the game with only 1 point advantage.

Sad for China as they weren’t able to finish the job. It was a very close game, and honestly winnable for them, but they made mistakes at the end.

I think that’s really China’s main problem that hasn’t been fixed yet. Even back in the Asian Games, they were already up by double digits with less than 2 minutes left, but then Gilas had that strong run led by Brownlee and they lost.

That’s the kind of loss they’ll never forget.... hopefully they don’t get frustrated from this, and instead use it as motivation to keep improving.

I think China has a shot at pulling an upset. They already beat New Zealand by double digits, so I don’t see them losing that easy. Even if they do lose, I feel like they can at least cover that spread.

Yes, Australia beat the Philippines by 24 points, but that wasn’t against a strong team. Gilas didn’t even have legit centers, so that gap isn’t the best measurement. China on the other hand is huge, they’ve got size and they can definitely play. Aussies are the favorites, sure, but I won’t be surprised if China keeps it close or even steals the win.

I like that take. And in the first game it already looks like an upset in the making, with Iran leading by 14 points at halftime.
Really excited to see how China will handle Australia later..Aussies are very defensive and they’ve got solid shooting, so it’s gonna be interesting to watch how China matches up.

But the Chinese needs to proved something as well. As China hopes to win its first Asia Cup since 2015. So will it be redemption for the Chinese? I wanted to go and bet on the underdog here.

Chinese team has one chance to do it, but missed the shot. Reminds us of the Gilas lost, they are in control, but that one last shot. It seems that the Chinese has string of bad luck in this FIBA cup.

Not actually a good excuse even if they add new young guys in their roster. Since somehow they need to compete and became more competitive just like what they are showing.

The Aussies were the defending champions and heavy favorites going into the game. They were -17.5, so just imagine if you bet on China to win the first half, you’d already be looking at some really good odds.

Anyway, FIBA Asia is now done, and the focus will shift to the FIBA World Cup. But that’s a completely different competition since the European teams and Team USA are the ones expected to dominate there.
