I rarely see people use them for personal matters, usually, that is more common among public officials or similar individuals who use their real names on the platform.

To be precise, you can't have Twitter link on your profile as there is no dedicated place for it. There is some obsolette things that you can have on your profile like ICQ, AIM, MS, YIM. But yeah, you can have it on Website space or in your signature.
It's everyone's choice whether they want reveal identity or not, but having Twitter account doesn't neccessarily means that you will reveal idenity. It might be business profile or your nickname.

Right! Some use it for all the above mentioned reasons, while others might just use same username they use here on the forum and that is also cool for privacy sake, but however not everyone really cares though so it depends on individual choices.

That you can have it on your profile doesn’t mean the forum has a specific space for, like I said in the op he could choice where to put the link, I also marked the website space because it’s where most people put other links. I also did mention “some” to point out that it’s not everyone who uses X will reveal their true IDs.

The topic has been talked about several times but nothing has so far been done for some few reasons that Cyrus pointed out.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like your proposal is going to be part of the many social network proposals that have been made in the past and have been totally ignored.

1. Add a Telegram contact method.

4. The profile page should be changed. No one uses ICQ, AIM, MSN or YIM.]

I've read through the topics helpfully posted by logfiles (thanks, man), and I've looked at the relevant SMF code, and I think I can put together a patch to improve the usefulness of those old fields. It's a little tricky because those fields have been baked into SMF's code without much forward-thinking or extensibility in mind, so I don't think it's wise to keep adding new fields using the current approach (both from a programming point-of-view and in terms of visual clutter). Even though most of those fields now refer to defunct services, I also don't think it's wise to remove any of them (with Bitcointalk, especially when messing with existing functionality, my inclination is to have a conservator/preservation mindset and to steer well-clear of destructive updates).

What about something like this:
- The number of fields, platform names and user input remains the same. This is how existing information is preserved.
- In the Forum Profile Information page a dropdown menu is added next to the defaults to switch with some new ones (Discord, Telegram, etc). This also keeps the same number of contact fields.
- Updating the contact fields should also update the small logo under the user's avatar, displayed in posts.

Yep. That's just about the best way to approach it, IMO.

I think the "Skype" field should probably be moved upwards to sit with the other fields, like this:

That way, everyone's existing field values would remain intact, but people would be free to switch them out for more modern alternatives (and whenever those get out-of-date, adding new choices would be really simple).

There's some extra per-choice stuff to keep track of in the background (an icon, a regex to limit what can be entered, a template to transform what was entered into a link, etc.) and some database adjustments would be needed (I think ~5 new columns on the members table, and 1 new table to catalog the available choices would probably do it).

I'll see what I can come up with in my test environment...

You can put your X link on your account or maybe your signature space if you want to, but it will be wise if you do not put your personal X account link there. However, if it is a business account to promote your business, you can, but you should not put a scammer link there, so that people do not fall victim to a scam or a phishing link, which could steal information of visitors upon clicking it.

I am supporting this proposal and maybe we need to bump it up and remind theymos about that.
PowerGlove has done amazing job with his bug fixes so far, and I am sure he is going to do a great job with profile link updates.
I am not the one who would add links to all my social media accounts, but adding telegram or twitter link can be useful.

Why do you think that OP may have intentions to promote scams? From his posts it doesn't looks like he potentially can do it. Maybe he is being kind to inform OP before hand to be careful which I believe OP already knows the consequences involved in such an act. I think if OP has such intentions he wuld not have bothered asking such a question because he would have seen some others profile and do the same without bothering to ask any question, since it is  a newbie account, we never can tell what OP is up till there is a complaint from any member of a bad experience from such.

As for you putting a link to your Twitter account, it remains elusive even though you have received replies explaining how to achieve your goal.

Your post history is not impressive. At first glance, you have several hallmarks of an alt-account or farmed account but keeping that aside, as you hardly post in the forum what good would adding your Twitter profile do?

Are you going to promote your post on X.com since you are a newbie? What you put in your signature is not clickable, but only text. If you have a hard-to-remember X.com username, people will have to copy and paste it.
