Counselling them won't help. If they have no initiative of quitting then all of the help by the counsellors will be nothing and in vain.
They need to do it for themselves and has to be seen that they want to quit. Because if not, any help given to them won't do if they don't do any actions of avoidance.
So, to that person you know of. Try it, ask and give some suggestions and anything you say will just be a waste of your time and saliva.

Greed and poverty - I believe they're different in terms of gambling. I would say greed is most common to people who have money thet afford to lose. They win some, but then they want something more. That an example of greed.
On the other hand, poverty is just means they lack the resources that are necessary in everyday living ang they choose to gamble hoping to get an easy money.

Counselling, rehab, therapy and all of that doesn't work on an addicted gambler that doesn't put in any effort to become better...I know a lot of people that have gone for therapy because of an addiction but still end up going back to it, this is because the most important aspect of quitting an addiction is putting in your own effort,without this any help you get from others won't work because change can only start from you

The moment a gambler considers gambling as a source of living, addiction is always highly possible. And we can do nothing but only counseling. However, I don’t see long-term essence about counseling an addicted gambler, because once an addict, he will definitely insist on continuously doing on his thing because for him, it’s a do or die.

For me, the best solution is have him experience treatment or therapy by a medical practitioner. They know what’s best for an addict, and not just mere counseling. But this will only be effective if the gambler itself is really interested to be treated, otherwise everything won’t work if the patient won’t submit and cooperate.

No one can make gambling a job, if gambling can be a job who then are you working for. For him to able to play game for a long time in a day then how can he work for the money to do so. When counseling such people don’t counsel about gambling alone, love them, spend more time with them. Some people may be running away from so much problems and pressure that they start to only find fun and peace when gambling.

Why not, if they ask for counseling?  But, many people don't want other people meddling with their affairs. An unwanted counselling can turn into misunderstanding and hate. There are lots of instances where a person who offers advice to a person who is not asking gets into trouble.  

So I guess before handing out a sageful advice, one should make sure that the person he is delivering the advice to is seeking it.  Btw, there is no need for a person who is giving advice to counsel anyone but the opposite, unless it is the source of income of the person giving advice .

Thinking of gambling as a way to make money is a misconception. And if someone views gambling as a way to make money, then they should come to the casino as an employee, not a visitor.

And it's quite difficult to counsel someone who is addicted to gambling, and if you use the wrong approach, instead of helping the person realize it, it will only end in conflict. And that's because someone who is addicted will never realize that what they are doing is wrong; they will always seek justification for their mistakes and stupidity.

I myself don't have much time to deal with someone who is addicted to gambling, and when one of my close friends experienced a gambling addiction, I chose to let the person deal with it until they reached their own bottom, because once they truly hit rock bottom, they will realize their mistake and know where to seek help.

In fact, giving advice to gambling addicts for a short time or 1-2 days will not do. A person addicted to gambling will have to work hard day and night to get out of gambling addiction because when a person addicted to gambling can be brought out of gambling addiction, he cannot be brought out very easily. He has to be constantly with him. He has to be taken to the playground for entertainment, he has to go to a hospice for religious work. However, if all this is not possible, then a person addicted to gambling or a drug addict should be sent to a rehabilitation center because there are very good treatment facilities for all these people (gambling addicts or drug addicts) and if there is a situation to give time, then of course much better results will be obtained than rehabilitation to bring a person addicted to gambling on a good path.

This set of nothing they cannot lose in their life as they dedicate their lives to gambling, I think it will definitely leads them to lose everything in their life, not only their relationship with the people. Because for someone to put all his focus on-gambling is a very dangerous thing, since nothing good in life can overcome him that he will be considering all his aim is how he can be able to win a big amount of money in gambling.

And besides, it’s easier said than done. Counseling alone isn’t enough. Even rehab doesn’t guarantee anything; it’s still possible they’ll go back to gambling after some time. Resisting the temptation of gambling takes a very strong will, and that requires more than just counseling. Strong will, self realization, diverting your attention, and more are needed.

Seriously gambling addiction is not something that’s good, we should just try as much as possible to avoid gambling addiction, because it doesn’t always end well. If you are a gambler, and you are already taking gambling as your day to day activities, or you gambling just for the sake of money, then you will end up getting addicted to gambling, and if you are already addicted to gambling, then you going to find it so difficult to stop it, so the best thing is just to avoid addiction.

Have seen people sell their properties just because they want to satisfy themselves, people do sell their cars, houses, phones just because they want to gamble, most of them are always confident that they going to win after selling the property which they having, and after winning, they going to get something better than what they are having before, but it doesn’t always end well, because most of them do end up losing.

Since you said he usually spend all his time to gamble does it mean that the 24hours is been spent in the gambling shop every day by day? If yes then how did he manage to get those money he has been using to gamble? Maybe he's just this set of gamblers that like spending quality time in gambling probably after he must have close from work or side hustle.

Anyone who is addicted to gamble and have not yet figure out that he's a gambling addict would end up going through this challenges, and that's when they will realize that they are becoming addicted to it. As a addicted gambler once you start experiencing this challenges, you start looking for a way to limit from it because if you choose to continue with it there is a point where you will start having negative thoughts.

Counselling works, but only if you help YOURSELF as well. Any outside help can help you whether it's just a family support, or a friendly advice coming from your friends, but if you aren't helping yourself, even the most powerful advice will be useless.

I've seen people both in my place and online that suffered the negative effects of gambling, and the reality is that, it's the result of their wrong decision making. They let gambling eat their selves, spent way too much time for it and now they're facing the consequences of it. I'm not against gambling obviously, but what I'm trying to say is that, excessive gambling can lead to negative effects such as what the OP has shared.

Gambling addiction is very hard to cure, but not impossible. Any addicted gambler can still recover from it, but they need to help themselves first. Learning how to be disciplined, and know how to control yourself and your emotions is a good thing to have.

I wouldn't dive quickly and give an advise to a gambler that I know that will not listen to me. You'll even look bad if you do that to them because they'll reason out that they're better than you.

And that's why let them approach you if they are in need of help. But never volunteer for any help to a gambling addict because you'll have to protect yourself too.

Some may blame you for getting involved with their affairs even if you only want to give them some good advise for their sake.

It's good to help but, look at your limitations and spaces.

What's the point of counseling an addict when I'm not been asked to do so, let the addict discover their bad habit and try as much as possible to work on it for their own betterment.
If they could help themselves first, then heaven helps them as well, it all starts from self.

When a gambler turns to an addict, he either develop a habit that turns out to be miserable if care is not taking.

If you’re going to counsel, just be sure you are the right person to do that. A blind person cannot lead a blind person, as they will both go astray. If he asks for advice, that’s when you should proceed.
Some people do not want to be advised on how they gamble; they find this annoying and will distance themselves from you. You have to earn their trust, and you should be the right person to advise, or else everything is useless and ineffective. That is why I prefer to refer a gambler to a professional who can give the right advice and treatment.

Gambling addiction have been discussed in this board several times, ways have been highlighted how this gamblers can reduce their gambling addiction and how upcoming gamblers can control their addiction into not becoming addicted overtime. Counseling a gambler that is already addicted is a good one but they have to still make up their mind that they’re ready to reduce gambling and also work by the rules set to relief themselves off the addiction of gambling.

Gambling addiction lifestyle is not one that is commendable, it makes you lose a lot of things, from families to relationships, from money to also wealth. It is necessary that  a proper caution is taken when we want to start gambling to avoid getting addicted overtime. Gambling is very risky but at the same time, we need to apply proper risk management when taking part in it.

Many people are seeing gambling as the answer to gain money, influence by popular personality flexing their profit by just playing their favorite games. There's nothing wrong to gamble as long as it's in moderation and you're not using the money that meant for important things. Any gambler can become addicted if he/she has high expectation to win but can bear losing money.

Addicted person really need someone to talk to. A friend or a person who can understand what he's been going through. In some cases, a professional help is necessary to stop the addiction.
