Of course, a little counsel might go a long way, but the problem is, gambling addiction rate is still on the high side, so you wonder if people don't give advice at all, or the little or the little counsel isn't effective. In just less than an hour ago, I came across a thread on X(Twitter) of a supposed banker who borrowed money to gamble. He his currently in a state of mess as he has been sacked. The thing is, it doesn't take a single day to restore these type of people. They've been eaten up into the world of gambling over the years, so a single word of advice might not necessarily work for them.

Bruh, once it turns into addiction, it is no longer about fun or even profit, it just eats into every other area of someone’s life. Money problems, broken relationships, stress, all of that comes along with it.

Counseling is definitely a good step, but it also takes a lot of self acceptance and willingness from the person themselves. You can advise and support them, but at the end of the day, they have got to admit it is a problem and actually want to change. Without that, it is hard for anything to stick.

Counseling them aline may at some times  not be the solution or kind of help these set of persons will need, they may need professional help at some point where they will have to go through  a rehabilitation process to get them back in a very good shape and form such that they will be able to take guided steps that will be of actually help to them and eventually help them stop that act of gambling that has been detrimental to their well been.

Although  there are levels of the addiction, same may require the Counseling alone and some are such that will require all of that which I have mentioned earlier but as much as possible let us all try to avoid gambling to such an addictive level.

I won't advice anyone to control their gambling addiction, if they can't stop it means they are still seeing some ways to keep gambling, wait till they reach their bottom, they will call for help even if they can't stop themselves, have you ever seen whereby someone called his family to lock him up for weeks to beat addiction? Same thing will end up happening to such person.

A uncle of mine still can't balance is life till now, the wound from gambling addiction since year 2000 is still affecting him because he doesn't feel alive anymore, he has no hope or faith in anything anymore, he found solitude in hopelessness. He is the reason why I watch my ways with gambling, I don't ever want to end up like him in my life.

Addiction has a strong cord of ties between what they are addicted to and the person that is addicted, because they daily life routine has been streamlined toward doing a particular thing more often even at their own detriment, they don't care, you can easily see an addicted gambler always been broke, same applies to those that drinks, because they cant afford a day going by not doing that single thing they have always been doing, that is why tool much of everything is bad, because such could lead to addiction just as from the one we are discussing on this thread.

I mostly agree with what you say. However, I am more on the side of those who believe gambling addiction can be easier to treat than addiction to hard drugs, like cocaine, heroine or cocaine crack; because gambling addiction does not directly involved some foreign substance entering our body, it is mostly about a local lack of balance of dopamine in our brain, which causes the addicted gambler to crave for more and a more thrill, to the point it is harmful for their own financial and social being.
I have never treated or dealt with someone addicted to hard drugs, only with some family members with light addiction to gambling, so I can't say for sure. That is impression documentary films give me on addiction to those hard drugs I mentioned.

Another problem is that those who are heavily addicted to gambling will find it difficult to realize their problem, and simply giving them advice will not work as they tend not to listen and may even react angrily because they cannot accept the advice given to them. From what I observed from gambling addicts, they tend to rationalize every decision they do in order to justify their gambling addiction. In addition, they also have the attitude of being close-minded in which they tend to shut-down everyone's advice to them. They would only listen to themselves and they will not take any advice whatsoever.

In order to actually reach them, the best way is to just be with them. Help and support them by constantly reminding them that you're there whenever they start to open and change for the better. Knowing that they have someone to talk to makes everything reassuring on their end. Little by little, they would change for the better.

Sometimes counseling and showing them how other people are suffering because of them might lead to some changes. Living with a person addicted to gambling is difficult and these people have to face consequences for things that they never did.

But keeping the habit under control is also not tough, most people are unable to do this because of easy availability of sources to gamble in with the internet in their hands. Do they really need counseling from a random stranger like me? If these set of people have lost relationships or friends because they have probably refused to reduce the way they gamble, what makes you think that they will listen to me more than their family and friends? And besides that, I don't go about counseling people about being addicted to gambling. I understand that you want to help them out but sometimes it's good to know your place in people life, sometimes I leave people to hit the rock bottom and face the consequences of their actions because that's the only way for some addicted gamblers to seek for help.

I agree, gambling addiction can destroy lives and relationships. Many don’t realize how serious it is until they lose everything. It’s important to offer support and counseling instead of judgment because they truly need help to break free from that cycle.

When you see someone who is addicted to gambling, it’s when the person agrees that they are addicted that we can extend our hand and help the person. If they don’t still admit that they are addicted, then any other help you try to tender to them will be void since it won’t be accepted by the person.

The fact is that this situation always occurs where those who are addicted will clearly not accept criticism or advice in any form because they believe that what they are doing is right, so in the end, the advice we give will only be considered meaningless, and we may even be hated by our own colleagues or closest family members (who gamble) because we advise them not to gamble too actively.

Perhaps every work place needs to now have some kind of financial literacy course that everyone needs to go through because it sounds like people don't know what to do with their money once they get paid from their day job and jump into gambling thinking it's smooth sailing out there... honestly people need a reality check and need to find ways of growing their money the old skool way without shortcuts!!

This gambling addiction talk is usually self inflicted, too many girl friends and you think 💬 you can get away from the financial burden using gambling or maybe trying to live about our means which is unnecessary pressure we should avoid.
