How long can a new reply be made to an old post?

Since joining this forum, I have read many guideline posts. These posts have helped me by sharing advice and important guideline posts from respected forum members. At the moment, I want to learn about the topic myself through a discussion. I hope you all will help me learn about this topic.

Newbies—Read before posting. I noticed this post and understood it reasonably well. One thing I did not see here is how long a post can be replied to. There are many old posts no one replies to anymore, but those posts can still be replied to. I hope many people already understand what I mean. If old posts are too old, replies can no longer be posted there?

Few minutes ago, a post by nakamura12 How to Setup Telegram Bitcointalk SuperNotifier V2(TryNinja's Bot) on Telegram! helped me with the Telegram notification post. Can I reply to this old post if I want? But I didn't because I saw that most of the old posts no longer receive replies. I want to know about these things and hope you will give me a good idea.

Yes, you can post on the thread but make sure that what you want to post is meaningful. I will not expect posts like thank you for posting about the bot, but if you encounter difficulty while setting up the bot or later after setting it up, you noticed that the bot is having issue, you can post about it there or on the main thread. Although I will prefer the post to be on the main thread.

My explanation is simple. I mean that if you have any issue while using the bot, there is not problem to post about it there. But that is not the main thread where the bots is being discussed about. This it the main thread the bot is being discussed about:

You can ask questions and report bugs or any difficulties that you have about the bots there, regardless of when people post there last.

There are no problem to reply old post as long as it's on topic and you give substantial information/update.

There are no deadline, we can make a post as long as the thread doesn't locked. Even you want to post a thread which the last reply in 2009, it's allowed too.

No matter how old the thread is, if you have a relevant question or something new to add, feel free to post there. Be careful that you are not violating the thread rules.

If the post is useful and makes sense, there's no problem with the topic being old, and in many cases it's even better than creating a new one
A good example that I remember well are topics about problems with exchanges, hacks, rug pulls, etc., where it can take months to get updates and from time to time it can make sense to return to the topic, as was the case with FTX, for example

In other cases, it makes more sense to create a new thread, even if the subject of an old one is already very outdated or doesn't make enough sense to add to the new discussion

You always can reply in any old and inactive thread if you have something constructive to post there. A good and constructive post is it is what it is even in an inactive thread.

However, if you make a post in an old and very inactive thread, just to fill in your post quota, your post is a shitpost, spampost as it is. You don't contribute anything with such posts and they can be deleted by forum moderators too. So make sure you know what you are composing and posting in any thread, not only in an inactive thread.

The red warning when you click on post on an inactive thread (more than 120 inactive days) reminds you about this too.

Read me; there's nothing wrong to post in those inactive threads but ask yourself of what essence would it be to awaken those dead trends. Note that for a thread to be left dormant of no users replies, it's either the essencenir need of the thread has been met or probably not interesting for users to keep it lively. If you observe very well, you'll see some old threads still trending with a lot of pages covered. That's to say, the topic is interesting for users to keep it up although if necessity arises based on relevances, of course the trend can be awaken by users replies or Op updating the thread if it hasn't been locked by the Op or Moderators

This is a public forum, you are free to do whatever you want within the rules, feel free to exercise your freedom of speech.
So as far I see it, yes you can reply to old posts regardless of it's age as long as you have a genuine concern related to the original subject. But if u plan to spam, with irreverent things, off topic, unnecessary things, then that's a problem. I hope u understood my point.

Posting on old forgotten thread is more like you bumping up an old discussion. So it's ideal for you to have a tangible reason to want to bump that thread and not just to spam up unnecessary discussions. Though it's not common for such threads to be awaken by any random users or newbies.

If you've got like a good question as regards that thread, you can drop it there instead of creating a new topic to ask questions about it. But no one is stopping you from doing that.

If the old post has still not locked, then you can always reply to that as long as you don’t create the same reply or post that has already been said or discussed earlier. With that, there’s possibility that you will still receive some replies from other posters. And take note, post only when it’s needed, when you have something new and valuable to share or add from the old post that makes that more interesting again.

However, I would not suggest frequently posting replies on those old posts especially if the topic isn’t new and interesting anymore. Prefer to reply on those current posts where you can freely share your points of view that aren’t being said by others. There’s high chances of getting merits also.

If you wonder why some posts have never seen posted in the thread, that’s because they aren’t quality and are most probably off topic so the admin will definitely delete it. But if you think you have something meaningful and informative to share with the other members, then don’t hesitate to post it, might as well it will educate especially those are still new in the forum.

Post if you think the thread is still open and is still interesting to reply with, but leave the thread if it’s not worth posting already.

I think you can reply to an old post, assuming that you have something new like an update on it.

But if it just like a bump or some just random posts and maybe what you want to say have been commented before by other members, then I don't think that you should do it. The best thing to do is to check if your supposedly post have been commented or let's say you want to ask something, then see if it has been replied before.

And usually you will received this kind of message if you replied on a old post,

Op, what you are asking is called Bumping of old threads. Read the unofficial rule again and you will see a rule about bumping of old threads. It is stricter in the Ann threads, services boards but not in conventional discussion threads.

Take this simple rule, when the post is older than 120 days, read, learn and pass. But if you have a strong question you need to ask, which was not asked or answered in the thread, you can bump the thread or simply create a new thread and reference the old one.

Sometimes when we start seeing long post ahead, we jump into posting just by reading the topic alone which is a very wrong practice. You never know that what you’re tackling on your post has already been said numerous times  so that put your post as a spam. It’s better not to post if you don’t find it interesting to read, rather than forcing yourself to reply on the old post just to hit the post requirement if ever you’re already participating in a signature campaign.
