Am not surprise hearing about this, that a police officer who is suppose to be protecting the citizens of his country now became a thief. Although I don't blame the police officer because that act was as a result of poor salary, in my country the so called police men are paid pinut I really feel for them, because they are really suffering. And they even suffer the more when they retire, just imagine a retired police officer as other ranks is still trugling to eat after retirement which is not making sense.

Everyone seen involved in the criminal case has been sentenced to life in prison.
We should have known by now that money has always been the root to evil.

Privacy is important but at times we slip out informations that shouldn't be disclosed, moreover it wasn't just to anybody but to officials that has sworn to uphold integrity and despise evil, another lesson to learn not to trust anybody including legal representatives for those who have the thinking of passing their Bitcoin as inheritance.

Glad to know that the culprits were arrested and sentenced to life.
Staying under the radar with your money and holdings and keeping your privacy is very important, but, unfortunately, it’s not always possible, especially when the involved people are police officers.
This case got me a bit curious about how those criminals knew about Bhatt’s wealth, so I did a little research on him. It seems he is not that innocent either since he was also accused of committing a similar crime a year earlier:
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/ahmedabad/shailesh-bhatt-arrested-in-2017-bitcoin-extortion-case/articleshow/112599122.cms

Although I don't blame the police officer because that act was as a result of poor salary, in my country the so called police men are paid pinut I really feel for them
Sorry, but not being paid well is not an excuse to steal other people's money.

It was about kidnapping and extortion of bitcoin from a Surat-based businessman in 2018 named Shailesh Bhatt, who had reportedly recovered a portion of his lost investment from BitConnect developer Dhaval Mavani in the form of bitcoin, after the $900 million company he invested in shut down.

How did the police officials knew about it? Maybe Shailesh Bhatt reported it to them for help is my guess. After he recovered the coins in bitcoin, they knew it was huge amount of money. Because of that they kidnapped him.
Most probably the victim shared about the funds he recovered, or corrupt police keep tracking him. Always remember money could change minds. So either your enemy or friends never share about your capital. Once upon a time they would be harmful for you and steal your money. Especially when you are a crypto user, then keep it secret; just earn yourself silently. Even if you share about crypto, don't share your holdings.

I have a couple of police friends, though they know I am involved with crypto, but they aren't aware of my holdings. I trained them how to trade cryptocurrency and helped them to accumulate crypto as well. Just leave them to trade; I don't even share my tradings either. Because crypto isn't legal here, and I might be in a trap anytime. Privacy is very important for me to secure my funds and life as well.

That is why Bitcoin exists to protect privacy. When someone registers a bank account, we know it is centralized and can be viewed even at the initial registration stage. While with Bitcoin, when we create a new wallet, no one knows, and the same goes for the new address. However, people often make the mistake of revealing their Bitcoin address ownership, even though Bitcoin provides this privacy (although it is not particularly privacy-focused). These wrongdoers often reveal their Bitcoin ownership, this is why we often see people robbed or have their Bitcoin stolen. Therefore, we should realize the importance of privacy. Don't reveal it easily to anyone, it is best to keep it to ourself, so this will protect us from any unwanted incidents.
We all know the importance of privacy, which in this kind of situation we really can't tell what the victim could have done or what way he could have done it when he was initially looking for a means to recover his lost funds misplaced as investment. In such situations, authorities, whom you will want them to help you fight for the case, will have a clue of your holding, and instead of them protecting you, they turn out to be the ones that carried out your kidnapping and extortion. We are now in a wicked world where you don't even know who to trust when it comes to money.

Know when to disclose some important details and know when not to. Always prioritize privacy because that is your only weapon against future attacks. And take note, not all those who show sympathy are actually on your side, some are just wearing a mask and act as if they are the key on recovering your funds, but in reality they will be the future reason why you will lost your assets permanently.

People can be two-faced when money is already the major concern. Never be too trusting, never trust anyone. And always think that people around the corner are waiting to see chances when to attack you and steal your funds/assets.

Those who are supposed to provide security for the people can also be influenced by money. Everyone has a greedy nature. It's just that those who cannot control themselves will surely be influenced to commit crimes. Now they are facing the consequences of their actions. Money can indeed change a person's character, which may not be seen by others.
I believe the intentions of the victim are good for his case. But what he received did not meet expectations. We can choose not to share anything with others, including avoiding publishing our portfolios on social media.
It’s the greed for money that makes a person commits a crime, that’s why it’s not the money that is the root of evil, it’s how a person deals with his attitude regarding money. Unfortunately, even high authorities find theirselves falling on their greed and create uncontrollable actions that they will surely regret in the future.

It’s never bad to trust, but always know well whom you can trust, most especially when money is the ultimate concern. But sometimes, we only learned when it’s already happening.

It's bad that people who are supoose to protect us are the ones my betraying us. I have this mindset that there are no good police that much in the job. Majority of them are dirty and got involved in the job to use it as an opportunity to steal/extort from people under the government umbrella. Let them face the wrath of the law. However, keep your bitcoin dealing private and see everyone around you as a betrayal.

I don’t quite agree with you when you said one should see everyone around them as a betrayal because we have immediate families that I wouldn’t want us to see as that. You cannot simply see the like of parents and even children as betrayal just like that, this will only make you distant yourself from them which is not good.

The advice is actually to keep your bitcoin holdings private but of recent you see holders showing off these wallets like cloths on the social media and flaunting them this are all those those things that aid this bad people

Public office is a public trust. And police officers should be one of the trusted in the public officials that are serving the people.

But if this incident has happened, many will start to doubt them if they should be trusted with their financial problems reported to them as scams.

The love of money made them do this, greediness can do such thing when they are aware that there's a big pot involved.

This is making me very much afraid everyday because you don't know who to trust anymore when it comes to Bitcoin. If the law enforcement and people who swore to protect lives and properties will constitute serious threat to people, who then should we believe? At some point one would need to mention Bitcoin such as in the case in question where the person needed the services of others to recover his Bitcoin. I don't know what he did wrong in the entire story and how the police officers and their accomplices got to know about the Bitcoin before planning the kidnapping incidence. This is a wake up call for people to keep their Bitcoin activities private.

This real-life story creates realization that no one can be trusted whether it’s fiat or bitcoin. While government officials are corrupt, but these security officers are also taking crimes silently to satisfy their greed for instant wealth. And this is a threat for everyone here, bitcoin or non-crypto investors.

Protect yourself and your privacy. If there are information that needs to be filtered, then secure its privacy. You don’t have to tell-all and regret later, you don’t know that opens opportunities for others to scam or plan an attack on you.

I'm not surprise to hear this, moreover I have heard about similar case before. I think the world is just turning into something else, the duty of the police is to fight against crime instead they're the one promoting it,  is obvious that they did all of that due to greed. And yeah, greed has lead most people into one problem and the other. This is why we don't need to trust too much because the person you think that he can be trusted can just change all of a sudden. I can't even remember reporting any case to the police, and if I'm to do that I think that will be normal Case and not the one that has to do with money because I don't know thier intentions.

My God! Let's feel sorry for him because his salary is low. Why don't you help him if you feel so sorry for him? Ask him what a policeman should do. Why does he go to work in such a profession? To steal from people, or to protect them from robbers? Don't you think that you are writing nonsense? Although I will not argue that human greed sometimes closes the eyes of people in those positions that, in theory, should be an example for others. But it is clear that this guy, a policeman, needed the position to obtain some power, which he could not achieve as an ordinary citizen. What can I say? A difficult childhood, injuries, etc., alas.

Shocking case you mentioned it shows that crime can happen anywhere even among those who are supposed to protect us. It looks police learned about Bitcoin after Bhatt likely asked them for help which highlights how easily corrupt people can misuse their power. Case is tough lesson on dangers of owning much of cryptocurrency as it can attract violent crime. It is relief that Bhatt survived and life sentences given to criminals show that such crimes should not be ignored.

If this is what security personnels are turning into, I don't know who to run to when we feel insecure. Because if the police can be stealing from people they promised to protect, what remains again,i feel Nothing. And that means we are no longer secure. In most places, this kind of thing always happens as a result of the bad governments they are facing.where they payrate of works are not enough to take care of their needs.when security personnels have low salaries while politicians enjoy high paying ones this may be the cases.but still, I feel that should not push officers to steal from the citizens they promised to protect. I always feel so bad whenever I come across these kinds of stories.

I posted about how a police become a thief, which may not be shocking to many people because anyone can be a thief. See another one today which are 14 people. Among them are former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and 11 police officials.
Are policemen people too or did you think they were "saints"? Human greed pushes even those who should fight it (and not allow it) to commit crime.

All these years, information about what happened was kept under the heading "secret"?

How did the police officials knew about it? Maybe Shailesh Bhatt reported it to them for help is my guess. After he recovered the coins in bitcoin, they knew it was huge amount of money. Because of that they kidnapped him.
It doesn't matter how they found out, what matters is that they should never have known. Which is what this story proves.

When I was reading the news, it was like I was reading a novel or watching a movie. What if after they were able to stole huge amount of money from him in a wrench attack, what if they killed him? It can happen like that but luckily they did not kill him.
Luckily, otherwise no one would have known about it.

To know moren about it, you can read it from this link: https://cointelegraph.com/news/indian-court-sentences-14-bitcoin-extortion-case

Everyone seen involved in the criminal case has been sentenced to life in prison.
Quite deservedly, considering their positions. If people who protect law and order commit crimes, then there should be no leniency towards them.

Indeed, at least we can share with people we have considered and know their character. Family is one of them, but we also might not be able to indiscriminately share all information with all family members.
From the news shared by the OP, those who were given the information are strangers. Even though they have an obligation to protect citizens' rights, in reality, their greed blinds them and leads them down the wrong path. I don't think they are too poor with the salaries provided by the state.

I remember a thread about those who have been physically attacked and have their bitcoin stolen, Physical Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Attacks that Have Been Reported Worldwide, the op also fell victim of physical abuse by the police.
Two websites with list of Physical attacks in Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency.

https://github.com/jlopp/physical-bitcoin-attacks
https://github.com/demining/Physical-Bitcoin-Attacks

People must read those reported physical attacks and understand vital importance of privacy and anonymity. Understanding this will help them having more careful practice that can protect their privacy and anonymity so that they reduce risk of being attacked physically.

Wanting to be famous is dangerous and they will be under radars of people who always wait for potential careless victims.

It is an unfortunate situation for the businessman to be having such an experience in the hands of the law enforcement agents who ought to have protected him from such an incident. As it stands now, nobody can be trusted and we ought to take our safety and security seriously because we can not really tell the motive of the next person close to us.

This is a lesson to learn from to always keep your assets to yourself and avoid situations that would require you to mention or talk about your bitcoin portfolio to someone, just because they needed an answer to verify or investigate something ongoing. Just as OP has said " Privacy is very important. Do not trust anyone." Keep your bitcoin and other sensitive information about you safe so that no one may know about them.

I'm not shocked to hear sad news like this because I already know that even those claiming to be our security personnel are corrupted, maybe not all of them but most of them are so corrupted by greed that they forget their jobs. This should be a lesson to everyone that are Bitcoin investors, many people around the world know that Bitcoin a worth a fortune and those that can afford it will do anything to get hold of it so we really need to be careful not to expose anything crucial to anyone, even our close friends shouldn't be trusted with any information about our Bitcoin investment, everyone is looking for a way to escape poverty and they don't mind getting anyone, as a Bitcoin Holder, I take my security measures very serious because I know that Bitcoin is the price.

I really don't know why people are this wicked in life you want to steal another person's assets that he or she has worked for years to get for your own selfish interest, people that do this kind of thing don't deserve mercy at all they deserve to suffer for this bad and evil plan to their fellow human, some set of people kill other people in order to steal their asset, I saw a story that a friend plan with some set of people to rub his friend off his Bitcoin, he knew that his friend had a huge amount of Bitcoin so he planned everything and when they came in the night to rub the friend off his Bitcoin they kill his friend it was later that the police investigated and find out that his friend was among the people that robbed and killed him, a lot of things are really happening and there is no way to secure ourself apart from being careful let's not involved anyone whenever it concern things like this because they can turn around to be the ones to bring us down, that is why I always kick against those that are always flaunting their bitcoin online, but in this particular story I'm just so surprised that police that is suppose to protect us will do this.
