I got really worried over the habit of some friends who are into betting or gambling and how they often stake into a game in a week more than what they earn even in a month and most time are not able to get it back in a couple of plays. So it got me really worried and concerned

What would be your advice for such if they were to be your friends as a caring friend who want them to not get financially drained in the process?

This is the moment when we see our friends turning what was once entertainment into a "perdition."
To be honest with you, I dont like talk about games with my friends because in fact, they dont even know that I gamble, so this is a topic we wild hardly ever have.

But, if I saw someone friend in this situation I would certainly try to help he, and my first piece of advice would always gambling low amount than they win... just like any financial debt, this is a path that only leads to problems.
Besides that, I think the conversation should be informal, like... "My friend... are you playing for fun? Are you having fun? Or is it become a problem to you? How much time do you spend playing? You dont even have fun with us, with your friends, you are always finding excuses to play. It is ruining your life!"

I think the help of a friend is essential to break someone gaming addiction, but often this does not replace the need for psychological help as well.

If you ever made a decision that is more than your capacity, then things might not work for you as you may expect of them in gambling, it is more better to gamble and take precaution on the necessary games we can afford to risk and never go beyond what wecan afford, those doing it the wrong way might be wrong about the entire ideal way to gamble, anyone that goes beyond his abilities in gambling may later regret his ways in this regard.

The best advice I believe is to tell the simple truth about being a responsible gambler. You should advise them to only gamble with an amount they can afford to lose and how there gambling habits maybe causing there family problems, also gambling is not an everyday thing. Gambling is not a necessity so you can explain to them with evidence how much they can be able to save if they can limit there gambling habits . Because  this addicted gamblers are blinded by gambling addiction so they won't really see how much they are losing.

Your friend has fallen into the category of gambling addiction, and counseling him is not easy. As long as he gambles and wins, even if his losses actually outweigh his wins, he won't realize it and will continue this way until he truly loses everything and realizes it. However, it doesn't stop there. If he doesn't have a genuine desire to recover, he will find any way to continue gambling. So, it all depends on how patient and persistent you, those closest to him, and even a professional are in helping him recover.
Its quite sad to be close to someone who's an addict, either to gambling or to drugs. Although being addicted to drugs might look rougher than betting but it is just not the nice thing you want to experience. An addict is always obsessed with the act and seeks little to no advise when making crucial decisions. It always look like they do not have the ample of time to think about their decisions before executing their plans because of the urge of engaging in the act. I wish he could have access to the account of the friend or walk to the bank and request the bank to lock the account so the friend cannot have access to his bank account, I will be so glad.
It's more sad when such person is part of your family members. I think I have said before that most drug addicts normally end up stealing from others when they no longer have money to buy the drugs they normally take. Drug addiction is very bad and I agree with you that it's more worst than gambling addiction. Most gamblers that are addicted only borrow to gamble but not take what does not belongs to them.
However the only thing I can do is to give advice not to continue gambling for a while but if he does not agree with me, I guess I have to stay put.

The simple answer is don't bet what you can't afford to lose. It will bankrupt you and likely make you addicted, if you're not already. I'd advise stopping gambling for a while to see if you feel better. If not, it's best to seek medical help to take care of your health and perhaps return with a different mindset.

We know how most times it's very difficult to talk some people out of this. Yes it's their money, so they know how they want to spend it. But as a friend who truly cares, he should be willing to enlighten them about the consequences of failing to manage their gambling activities properly. You can't as a gambler bet on all your hard earned money. Its actually a wrong kind of mindset that every gambler should avoid.

This kind of situation can ruin ones life completely. Spending more than you earn on something that works on probability and luck. I saw someone the other day calling gambling investment, but that's definitely wrong. Gambling can never be an investment aside for those who runs the casinos..

There is no magic advise to these people that gambles more than the amount that they earn. It's always, to only gamble what you can afford to lose. If they can afford to lose what they are earning and even more than that, good luck to them. These gamblers know what they are doing and there is no one that will stop them from doing it. Even if you care for them, there can be a tendency that they'll think of you badly just because you are so concerned of them and you want them good but they are not.

You certainly should be concerned if you care for them and you are not wrong to be. Seriously, some friends wouldn’t want your type at this point where, they feel they are all up for the game and don’t have no room for discouragements or bad energy.

Well, you should be that bad energy and warn your friend of the dangers associated with game of luck especially, when they are gambling away more than they can afford to loose. They certainly are not in it for the entertainment or as a game for the while but, are in it for money making which is a wrong reason to gamble.

You can’t do much other than, remind them to practice finance management, teach it to them if need be and hope they learn.

Knowing full well that life is beyond staking and gambling, I’m sure they as my friends know my thoughts towards their gambling habits and would want to adjust their behavior around me but then my best advise would be to introducing them to a different kind of financial advisor or someone who is good at money management so they would listen better because if I do the talking myself they may not be able to take it as serious as I meant it!

Most times, friends don’t consider advise from their peers so bring a third party can make them think rigorously and maybe give up the behavior.

If I had friends who were staking more than they actually earn, me too I would not just sit back and watch because that is a slow road to financial ruin tbh..  The will as well talk to them heart to heart sha,  not to condemn them but to make them realize how dangerous it is to risk money that is supposed to cover basic needs or future plans….  Knowing well gambling itself is already risky, but when it becomes bigger than your income, then it is no longer just a habit, it is a trap..  Most people in that situation always keep telling themselves they will recover what they have lost next time, but the truth is that the more they try, the nor money they lose and the deeper they go…

As a friend, my advice would be for them to pause… I would even encourage them to set limits or even take a complete break from gambling, because sometimes the only way to break free is to step away entirely… I would also remind them that if they can afford to lose large sums in betting, they can also afford to start saving or investing those same amounts in something that will give them peace instead of stress. And if I noticed that the addiction was already too strong, then they would need professional help…

I don't usually advise gamblers who have a bad approach to gambling - it's a sensitive issue for me even if they don't say it to your face.
In my opinion, it's difficult to advise one gambler when they're at the peak of their bad habits - it's practically useless to them. You can advise them, but not now - that means you have to wait for the right time, especially when they come to you for help.

Some gamblers feel insulted when you come and offer them unsolicited advice - it's not uncommon for them to even insult the person who's giving them advice outright. I don't think we should give them unsolicited advice - but when they come and expect help, that's the time.

If there are staking more than they can earn in a month or a week then how did they get the money to stake if they can’t make it from what they earn. I don’t know if there is anyone that stakes more than what they earn but some people do stake a lot from what they earn that they are left begging to feed after they must have lost .
For this type betting is critical they are more uneasy watching the game and the dark side can be the could become thieves or do anything for money.

Same old tips that he shouldn't gamble for him not to be drained financially. Because if he's going to gamble continually, he'll lose a lot of money and might not take it on his own.

These friends of ours will listen to us a bit but they'll still follow their ego to do what they think is right and what they are up to.

If they continue to gamble and never listened to your advises, stop advising and stop following him. Do your own thing and leave him alone, let him realize his mistakes soon.

I'm sure pretty much everyone in the world would give you the same advice here.  Tell your friends not to bet more than they can afford to lose.  If they listen, great.  If not, they will probably suffer financially.  You can't stop them, but you can come at them from the angle that they sure are spending a lot of money on entertainment, and maybe provide them with some additional options to spend their money on for entertainment and maybe they'll decide your ideas are a more fun time.

Betting more than you earn is obviously an addiction habit and you as a concerned friend shouldn't hesitate to tell them the truth because I would do the same too for my friends, and if they refuse to listen to your advice, make them know that you would never help them in future if they going bankrupt and honestly I would cut such friends off because they will definitely ruin my reputation if they fail to listen and make a positive turn. At this point that they are it could be very difficult to talk them out of the habit and I don't usually like advising gamblers that have gone that way but since they are my friends I will tell them my mind and probably help them change and if my advice is not working I will cut them off.

When this happens, you end up in a situation that's difficult to reverse, as you're spending more than you can actually afford. Often, those who do this believe they'll get rich quickly, but in practice, the result is often the opposite. Therefore, a good piece of advice is to stop risking everything at once and start thinking more carefully about the amounts you decide to bet.

What would be your advice for such if they were to be your friends as a caring friend who want them to not get financially drained in the process?
Well no one is happy seeing his friend getting financial drained, if I see my friend betting above his monthly income, I will do well by advising to reduce the rate at which he gambles but however it is up to him wether to stop or not, just like the saying that you can only take a cow to the stream to drink water but can never Force it to drink, so it is too. If my friend can listen to advice and reduce his gambling habits then it's fine but if not , it it's his cross to bear.

In no case should a bettor bet more than he earns. In fact, the entire money management system is more complicated than it seems. A bettor must know all his sources of income, and then calculate all his expenses. And when he finds out the remainder, even this will not be how much he can bet. After all, every person puts money aside for unforeseen circumstances. And this is a reasonable and only correct approach.

The most difficult task is to advise a gamble addict, it's only a gamble addict that can spend more than he earns in gambling. To me it's irresponsible act, I might not be friend with such person, he can influence me. I have no advice for him, let him continue to waste the money and watch me grow and invest.  We are all adults and at this age we should be mindful of our financial life, we must avoid anything that will drain our finance. Not just gambling there are many other things like alcohol and womanizing which can also drain one finance. If you're my friend I believe we should share similar goals, not the one that will give me stress with his addiction.

If they were my friends, I’d first try to talk to them openly and without judgment about my concerns regarding their behavior and the impact it could have on their financial and personal lives. I’d encourage them to seek helpwhether through addiction specialists, counseling, or support groups. I’d also suggest setting clear limits on their betting and keeping track of their spending so they become more aware of the problem. Most importantly, they need to know they’re not alone and that there are ways to break free from this cycle.
