I 've seen this thread yesterday: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5454729The OP has literally posted that another user dared to say that he is a man, when in reality he is a woman. Or the opposite, I mean who cares anyway?! But this case made me wonder if we really need to have a gender field in our profile page. And I am asking that because I find it strange that people actually care about it. Personally, I do not consider it important enough, as in it won't affect the way I talk to someone and the way we exchange ideas. I am opening up a very broad discussion, I know. Let's start with the fact that there are only two options, which in itself is controversial and has supporters on both sides. I argue that one of the following should apply: (a) there should be a "Gender" option with free text for selection and not a dropdown menu with predetermined options. (b) there should not even be a field for it on the profile page. It is common for social forums to have such a field, but... // If it's already been mentioned in another thread let me know and I will post there and close this thread.

But this case made me wonder if we really need to have a gender field in our profile page.
You just wanted to working up your signature on hype on me
It's personal business of everyone. Moreover, I consider that the gender field is absolutely useless option and everyone will agree with me. But you are unlikely to achieve anything with your topic, since completely useless fields (ICQ AIM MSN YIM) have been hanging for many years, although no one uses these services anymoreYou created your topic to make a circus, but I will not let you make my complaint into a flood, I have already explained in detail why I had complaints to that userNobody cares about the gender of a person on this forum; it's an anonymous forum. People may have their reasons for acting like other genders. I don't think that's a crime here.
Gender cheating - is not the main point of the complaint. Let him be who he wants to be. That's not the question at all. The complaint is not about his gender cheating, but about his deception of facts. He was asked - "Is this your twitter account"? I used this Twitter account many years ago. I don't own this Twitter account.
He said that " He don't owns this twitter account." And then he deletedthis twitter account. Although 15 minutes ago this twitter account was active and with a photo And so that you don't stare at this Twitter, it's already been deleted.
I don't trust liars who lies to people. I don't recommend doing anything with him since he blatantly lies people. His farm advertises the Ch*mby token and there is no "team" section on their website. This means they can scam at any time and nothing will happen to them. Now I understand why they hide their data VILJY is a manager and representative of the project that he advertises on the forum. If he were an ordinary user, I would have no complaints about him. I believe that you need to be transparent and open with users if you promoting something, and when things start with deception, then there is clearly something wrong with the project.

It is important to have such options but is not mandatory that people should update it.. maybe if others wanna know about each others in real life they can exchange contact or social handle to prove themselves better. In the forum we talks about privacy so there is no need people should be trying to prove themselves as male or female, maybe people could decide to say it out that they are male or female but it's not compulsive or mandatory they should do that. What we really care about is the ideal we exchange in common across the forum and how it helps the next person and contributed to their life's.

Bit mistake! That user has been on my Ignore list for a long time. The OP has literally posted that another user dared to say that he is a man, when in reality he is a woman. Or the opposite, I mean who cares anyway?! People keep thinking I'm a woman too
this case made me wonder if we really need to have a gender field in our profile page. ~ Let's start with the fact that there are only two options, which in itself is controversial and has supporters on both sides. I know you're a recent Legendary, but you still missed out on so much forum history! Otherwise you would have known how to work the system: Unfortunately, I think that you misunderstand the system. Given the trillions of different gender identities, we have adopted a coding system in which each gender identity is assigned a 64-bit number. For example, and only for illustration (I do not wish to presume your wingspan), Apache-attack-helicopter-gendered people would need to input the easy-to-remember code 0x9b68d151aeefa34f. In order to maintain compatibility with legacy systems, however, this is done by submitting the form multiple times with different genders. For example, in this case you would input Male Female Female Male Male Female Male Male Female Male Male Female Male Female Female Female Male Male Female Male Female Female Female Male Female Male Female Male Female Female Female Male Male Female Male Female Male Male Male Female Male Male Male Female Male Male Male Male Male Female Male Female Female Female Male Male Female Male Female Female Male Male Male Male. Simple! Now, it may seem discriminatory to assign Male 1 and Female 0, but not to worry! The coding is designed so that you can also input the inverse and get the same result. And to avoid left-handed bias, you can also enter it in opposite order. In fact, you can just put in whatever sequence of entries you want and the result will be the same.
So you see, bitcointalk.org is in fact the most progressive website ever, and I am ashamed to live in a world in which this system isn't yet codified into law.

A circus? I am expressing the opinion that the gender has nothing to do with the forum. It's totally irrelevant. Thanks for that, indeed I was unaware of it. But still, I don't see why we need it It's funny though, not gonna lie.
Absolutely, hence my point that we don't need to know anyone's gender to talk freely, openly and to exchange ideas. This is anonymous forum. I think Teimos agrees with me The topic can be closed Feel free not to answer, if you wish the topic to be closed. Theymos can answer on their own if they want to

I'm bored with the whole issue. I'm traditional, so I only recognise that gender is assigned at birth. Everything else is diversity of sexual activity. I love the diversity and I support people's choice in it, but it shouldn't affect gender in my opinion. My belief is that the whole gender issue is another creation of the elites to reduce population growth. Bill Gates has stated that this is one of the functions of the current pseudo-vaccine injections. I'm ambivalent about including gender in a Bitcoin Talk profile. My preference would be for a ternary option - male, female and prefer not to say. The gender at birth should be the basis for the entry.

I accept and respect the opinion, but you must be missing my point. I don't care what anyone believes. My thread is created in the Meta board, specifically because it addresses the fact that I don't think the gender is relevant with the forum by any means. The basis of my question isn't to start a converstion regarding whether there a 1,2,...X genders, it's just to point out that it has nothing to do with the forum. So, I understand that your opinion is to put a "prefer not to say" in the dropdown. That's an option as well.

Good for you! That's what "blank" is for Sure but I am genuinely curious, if I put that I am a man, does it make any difference in this forum? A friend of mine once told me that he was putting "female" everywhere he was asked (in social media etc), for privacy reasons, which made me think "if you need to put any gender, just to confuze the others, something is very wrong with your privacy overall".

It's his right. His gender identity is his own business. He has the right to self-determination and if it's convenient for him, no one has the right to forbid him. But if he leave his "twitter account", in his posts, where he on a photo with a beard and drinks beer - then let him not complain later. This is considered gender cheating on any respectable forum, and sometimes even trolling

That's precisely my point! I can be a woman and have the picture of a bearded dude. Nobody can blame me for this. And, of course, nobody must judge from my picture. Gender cheating isn't a term that I can understand. And, in order to avoid this problem in this forum, I 've suggested the 2 options in my OP.

Your proposal is logical in principle, but:
Teimos has introduced a gender options once. In a Bitcointalk profile, you could specify one of multiple genders. But that was on April 1st, which means that Teimos is unlikely to take the problem you mentioned seriously
And in addition, everyone knows how busy Teimos is and it is unlikely that he will do something like that. To change something in the system is something akin to the incredible.

I would guess that there are people not stating their real gender with it, others who do and more who just leave it blank (a) there should be a "Gender" option with free text for selection and not a dropdown menu with predetermined options.
absolutely - it would provide some entertainment for us you can be sure it would be used as people see fit - just like the Age field, I'm 8! (b) there should not even be a field for it on the profile page. It is common for social forums to have such a field, but...
Yea that would work for me and anyone else who doesnt care about anyones gender. Nobody asks anyone on here what gender. This is anonymous forum. I think Teimos agrees with me The topic can be closed You dont waive your anonymity by stating [or not] your gender, who is going to believe you are actually telling the truth, it cant be verified either.

You know what the deal is I was at odds with this VILJY, but I communicated in discussions with him anyway. I considered him a man and shared my manly thoughts as a man with a man. I thought that he is a decent opponent But when I found out he was a woman. In general, I felt like I was deceived. It was as if I had been deceived and cheated. After that I spent a long time lying in the bathroom depressed like Jim Carrey.

Why though? Especially since we all know that on the Internet, everyone is male unless proven otherwise. A friend of mine once told me that he was putting "female" everywhere he was asked (in social media etc), for privacy reasons
Not sure how would that actually increase privacy, other than increase chances of getting dick pics in your inbox (unless that was the goal).

Not sure how would that actually increase privacy, other than increase chances of getting dick pics in your inbox (unless that was the goal). Sad truth! If anyone wants to see dick pics they must identify as girls… He thought that anyone would believe he is a girl so in real life nobody would suspect who he really is. But I don’t like this of course. However, what’s your take on the initial question? You are right that everyone on the web is a man. But what do you think about my initial question?

Since bitcointalk is not a dating website, I do agree that we don't need gender option in our profile page. And yeah, not a fan of your suggestion under "a" since there are two genders anyway, so no point having bank space as it will just give members oportunity to write nonsense.
