In Sweden, the gambling regulator reported that almost 1% of disposable income went to gambling in 2024, about €2.5B total. Most of it came from online casinos and betting. Disposable income BTW is ( salary - taxes + benefits). For comparison: Australia – often cited as the highest per capita gambling spend, closer to 3–4% of disposable income in some year UK – sits roughly around 0.7–0.9%, depending on the measure Philippines – it's hard to measure because of offshore/illegal markets... ( not well regulated) Around 1% seems quite a reasonable amount really, let's say you earn 1000 of any currency - 10 of that is going on to betting which is not very much at all for the entertainment and joy it might give. Some people might drop that on a trip to the cinema, others might buy some loot in their favorite game or a ticket to a comedy show. You might get an equal amount of pleasure out of betting instead, as long as you have plenty of variety in life then there's nothing wrong with it. It is surprising that Australia goes that high, but from what I understand they have quite high salaries and maybe limited opportunities for other entertainment, especially outside of the major cities. From what I've read and maybe there has been a crackdown, but slot machines had high spin amounts along with being super prevalent.

I see that 1% as something normal, it is very unlikely that a person who likes gambling would bet that amount as a maximum in proportion to their income, and given that the entire population logically does not participate in gambling, it can be interpreted as those who do gamble average the total population to give an economically healthy reading.
It may seem like a lot of money, but we are talking about millions of people.

I think 1% average to disposible income sounds about right when you consider everybody and not just gamblers.
If you go around and ask 100 people if they gamble you will run into maybe 10-20 people that do. Those people that gamble probably gamble maybe 5-10% of their income. And after you average out the numbers you will see that it’s perhaps 1% or so.
Is this a worrying number? I don’t think so but I think the real number of disposable income per gambler is much higher than it should be. And it’s worse if someone is low income. Say someone makes $25K a year and loses $5000 per year gambling. It’s much worse than some millionaire which spends $10K per year gambling.

Now if putting 1 percentage into consideration we can say after paying your taxes and you could allocates one percent to gambling is not bad and of course it's always advisable to allocate some specific amount to gamble, let it be within 1-5 percent of monthly income depending on how much your are earning per month that could let you release such amount to gamble, otherwise 1 percentage is perfectly suitable for gambling and no matter roughly you could gamble that amount is pretty fine to gamble with.

1% of income is quite normal, I personally sometimes spend 5-10% of my income, because the income in my country is quite small, if I only put in 1% it seems like I'm just playing and then leaving, because it's only $1-3 from 1% of my income, that's why I spend more but I've managed my finances as best as possible so as not to exceed 10%

Personally, trying to reserve a certain percentage of your earnings and gambling will make it look like you have no choice when really you do. We must never forget that money is always needed in making something paying us something more useful in our everyday life. Probably nobody would mind having to expend a small sum in having a little amusement, but whether this is a wise move, especially in the long view, is the question to be posed. To contemplate it deeper, even this little amount can accumulate to rather a great amount in a year. This way, it might sound insignificant, but not everybody, in my opinion, will be fitting this habit. Life is something we should put first.

Most people often allocate more than one percentage to their gambling activities while some people always maintain the range of 1 percent to their gambling activities and also relies on the amount they are earning as an income or monthly/weekly salaries. One important thing in gambling is that people should be that mindful on the amount they gamble and they should also have limited time when to gamble and when not to gamble at least it would also help them reduce the rate at which they sources funds to allocation to their gambling sites.

A gambler who is honest, will tell you that 1% is little to spare from your income, it is modest but never accurate for gamblers. Practically, 1% of 100K is 1k, logically almost all gambler spends about 5%-10% of their income in gambling, if the truth is being accepted.
After receiving your salary or income, the first obligation to fulfill is covering your expenses, someone with lesser bills can spare out little amount even from a minimum wage to gamble, it doesn't make you irresponsible, if the bills are answered with some savings then why not spare moderately to gamble on your favorite sport, IMO.
You are not getting the point. Stop generalizing it to all gamblers. I have said it time without number, it all depends on what you are earning. 1% of 100k is too small for many gamblers. If you are not earning much, let me tell you there are many business men and rich workers out there that gamble with less than 1% but the amount is so huge. I gave you an instance before. Someone making a million every month, his 1% is 10k and someone making 10 million every month his 1% is 100k. When you earn high, the 1% is okay, but most gamblers that dont earn high gambling with an amount more than 10%. Which on a disciplinary level, its wrong. Someone earning 100k shouldn't be gambling, I said it before.

Most people often allocate more than one percentage to their gambling activities while some people always maintain the range of 1 percent to their gambling activities and also relies on the amount they are earning as an income or monthly/weekly salaries...
It all depends on the individual, their salary, and how much they can spend on entertainment. And if for one person the entertainment is a daily visit to the bar, then for another such entertainment is the casino. The main thing in both cases is to follow the measure, otherwise it will entail harmful consequences.

Yes, I thought so too, the money is big because it's a compliment of all the gamblers in that country, although some persons must have gone out of their way to overstake but overall, the 1% general calculations is not too much for all. Other countries could have more numbers than that and the difference could be because of the large number of gamblers in that country.
If this data is correct, it shows that Sweden has a high number of responsible gamblers. I know people around who gamble with more than 20% of their income. 1% of my income of people's income could be easily spent on game or movie subscriptions. Therefore, spending 1% of your income on an activity that might bring gains is not bad. Yes, that's why I said it is at a normal rate if compared with percentage that some countries have. Like you said that some persons gamble with up to or more than 20% of their income, that could have also been the case with some persons in Sweden, perhaps no country is free of irresponsible gamblers, but the numbers in Sweden didn't make any difference on the total amount of disposal income that all gamblers spent.

( not well regulated) I believe that gambling can be developed in countries with a tourism focus, allowing tourists to have fun and keep their currency within the country. The main thing is for the Ministry of Health, which oversees mental health, to constantly monitor the prevalence of gambling addiction and to balance this with a healthy and happy population. Because that's the most important thing, and gambling revenue is secondary.

This is sobering; the revenues are truly enormous: on average, an addicted gambler in Italy spends between €2,000 and €3,500 per year, for a total of €157 billion.
That would mean you have 50 million addicts, which I don't think is anywhere near reality. Back to the 1% is really meaningless if you compare the whole population, one country could do with 10% of the population betting 10% of their income, and another country with half of their population betting 2% which in terms of personal finances is a 5x worse weight than in the previous case. It's still better than raw terms like revenue vs GDP or something, but still imprecise, targeted by levels of income per household would paint a better picture but who has that data anyhow...

That would mean you have 50 million addicts, which I don't think is anywhere near reality. That would be almost the entire population of Italy. I thought there could be a confusion between the English "billion" (€1,000,000,000) and the Italian one, because in Spain "billón" (€1,000,000,000,000) is a false friend and means "trillion". But I've just checked it out and that's not the case in Italian language, and even if it was numbers wouldn't make sense either. Back to the 1% is really meaningless if you compare the whole population, one country could do with 10% of the population betting 10% of their income, and another country with half of their population betting 2% which in terms of personal finances is a 5x worse weight than in the previous case. Yes, in a country the "long tail" can be huge, while in another one a few billionaires can make the difference.

Well, if you think in economic term this is not a really low amount. It's like a negative return that I will try to avoid. Pay attention, I am not saying "it's too much". At a certain point, human beings in their life have the right to be happy and get rewarded in their free time. I think gambling (moderated) could be considered a fun and engaging activity. How much you will spend in other activities that give the same engament but you are sure to not get nothing back? Likewise... watching some tv premier show and so on... it's too much? I don't think that these could be questionable unless these are reasonable.

This only applies to those who don't go too deep and then become an addict, so everything can be controlled and spending that 1% is quite little, depending on how much of their main income. There are many kinds of entertainment available and gambling is entertainment that can be negative or positive entertainment in your free time with the note of using only a little money. And entertainment as you might think about Premier TV shows, or maybe games that have to buy coins and some weapons, skins and so on it's an entertainment that requires capital, and it doesn't have to get any rewards or profits, it's just an entertainment that makes one more alive after a hard job. But for those who are too greedy it will have a different path and ending, no longer an entertainment, but being right where they lost all their money.

Previously, I thought it was normal for individual measurements, but looking at the total amount shown in the data, even though it may not be very accurate, it is close enough that in the end, the nominal amount is very large But indeed, this cannot be denied, depending on how many gamblers there are in the country we live in, because if we look at the supply of one percent to billions, then it is certain that there are a lot of gamblers. This kind of thing may not seem significant if the benchmark is only individual, but if we look further at the overall total of the gambling proceeds collected, then it is clear that the figure is not small. On the other hand, even though the figure is stated as 1%, I’m quite certain there are many gamblers who deposit more than the 1% mentioned, because we know that sometimes, even if someone says they’ll gamble with 1%, many gamblers will try again with deposits from others, which is actually quite significant.

( not well regulated) Since disposable income is actually the amount a user gets paid or earned, after every other taxes, and compulsory deductions might have been deducted. And then the user goes about spending spending just only 1% for gambling for that month or year. For me, I will say that is quite an average amount to be spent while gambling. Because we have some gamblers who spend close to 5% to 10% of their income on gambling, taking higher risk while targeting high return of investment too. Example; Assume a user earns $1000 monthly as salary, and 1% will equally be approximately $10, which is still an average amount, even if he spends 5% on gambling too..

I, like you, think that spending 1% of your funds on something you enjoy, like gambling, is perfectly normal. It's not mandatory, so it's only an occasional thing. Setting limits is a good idea, as it minimizes the risk of significant losses. You should maintain that limit. I personally set a limit of 5%. The point is, avoid excessive gambling, which could negatively impact me and others.

That's very true, if you compare it to the numbers that other countries are doing in a year, then it will be obvious that this number is very minimal and it also suggest that there is likely more responsible gamblers in that country than the other country that have more addicted gamblers who are even betting and gambling with more than 50% of their disposal income on every month.

This is sobering; the revenues are truly enormous: on average, an addicted gambler in Italy spends between €2,000 and €3,500 per year, for a total of €157 billion.
That would mean you have 50 million addicts, which I don't think is anywhere near reality. I think there is . Somewhere, and the number is 15.7 billion, well closer to reality. https://www.yogonet.com/international/news/2025/07/07/110657-a-deeper-look-at-italys-gambling-market-in-2025-a-new-era-of-regulation-renewal-and-consolidation In 2024, that appetite translated into approximately €5 billion in online GGR and €16.5 billion from land-based operations. Since disposable income is actually the amount a user gets paid or earned, after every other taxes, and compulsory deductions might have been deducted.
Still, only those two numbers are meaningless Someone who spends 10% of his income and covers with all his food and clothes and transportation can easily spend anotheer 10% on whatever he likes. Someone who spends 90% on food and rent and others despite still having 10% left is still in a way tighter situation.
