A Champions League quest! I'm in! Started the first one already, going to be really fun, this one!

Re Grandpa Dzeko, I honestly didn't think he was still playing, and then found out after these playoffs, he's still plundering well in Germany!

Is Dzeko going to be the oldest player in upcoming world cup or Cristiano Ronaldo gets the prize? 

Incidentally, I was reading an article about it, so this is the first World Cup in 30 years where there will be outfield players 40 and above. In fact, there was only one ever in history, and now we will have four!

Of this edition, Penaldo gets the prize, he's 41 I read, but Granduncle Modric is only 6 months younger, so Grandpa Dzeko is actually the most junior of these three haha.

Yeah, with some teams, Bosnia absolutely need a veteran leader. Iran had Alidaei (don't know how to spell his name) for ages because they needed his leadership but Portugal? They don't need a mascot, they've got plenty of heroes with experience.

As a CR7 fan myself, I totally get what you are saying, but you are missing the key point which is the fact that the dude is one of the greatest to ever play this beautiful sport and is a money making machine for FIFA just like Messi etc thanks to their fans.

This logic literally applies to every sport out there. Just look at how the Australian Open 2026 season recently brought back the legend Federer for exhibition matches. More fans -> More views -> More money.

After losing in FA Cup against Man City I think they will be more tired than PSG, they had one day more for resting and preparing.

Believe me, that fact is not lost on us who criticise Portugal's insistence on Ronaldo. Like Messi, simply including him is a money-making move, getting eyes on the game, etc. But we're only discussing the health of the national team here, and what Ronaldo is holding them back from. Now if you sacrificed Ronaldo for the long term, you improve your chances at actually winning a major trophy. That... that will bring more fans, more money, more fame, etc. than a temporary influencer-fueled fanbase of Ronaldo lovers.

Not quite comparable to bringing Fedex for exhibition matches. Liverpool Legends plays a game every year with literal pensioners to raise funds for charity. Almost every club does that. Bring Ronaldo in at half time to juggle a ball with Messi if you want exhibitions... but tennis is not including Roger in an actual Grand Slam, nor is Gerrard on the sub bench for a Champions League or England competitive game...
