I see people are discussing a lot of bisq 2 bisq easy connect etc, but the main software is still bisq.

As far as i know, Bisq 2 is designed for newbies, and it has very straight limits(trade limit of  $600).

Quote

With the launch of Bisq 2, we introduced Bisq Easy — a new protocol designed specifically for Bitcoin beginners.
....

The protocol includes a global trade limit of $600, with individual trade limits based on seller reputation. Buyers do not need any reputation.

https://bisq.network/blog/trade-protocols/

Probably everyone who uses this forum is already an advanced user and should be using bisq.

I've never used Bisq but I've heard it since years ago. Apparently it's great, but im not familiar with the differences from other DEX p2p alternatives like hodlhodl. What would you recommend?

Also, what's the AML/KYC like on these services? I was curious to try some transactions, but I don't feel like doing a lot of paperwork. How much can you realistically buy/sell monthly?

Zero paper work.

you can trade tens of thousands of dollars with some patience. THere is enough liquidity to close 2k-5k order within a few hours without any kyc

So im assuming there is no annoying Chainalysis or similar that freezes your coins because apparently a mixer was used 27 years ago and now you are targeted as a bad guy. That is great, however I doubt zero paper work applies on all jurisdictions. The bank and taxman may ask where the money is coming from so you will need said paper work. And then who knows if they accept it as valid or not. This is the problem with Bitcoin, unless you bought them in a CEX, it becomes a risk using them, and you send the problem onto the next person. And since there is no real way to know if your coins are or not going to get frozen, it's all a gamble. If anyone has any experience in this context share it went. Im also assuming it depends the amounts you are selling, and also some banks and exchanges may apply different filters.

So im assuming there is no annoying Chainalysis

Judging by the discussion here, Bisq itself doesn’t have an AML checker in its arsenal.

However, I have little doubt that some agencies whose business is based on so called chainalysis have databases containing addresses associated with transactions coming from Bisq. They are putting a lot of effort into collecting such addresses, as they are directly instructed to classify them as risky ones.

I can refer to FATF guidelines which  identify as “used to launder money” users who regularly conduct high-value transactions on P2P crypto exchanges, especially unlicensed ones.

So be careful, and follow Bisq’s rules, i.e. don’t mention crypto or Bisq platform as the reason for your payments.

Well I assume most people aren't dealing with huge amounts. Either way I guess this all comes down to jurisdiction, relationship with your bank, your actual networth vs someone with 0 money that all of a sudden starts getting transactions and so on.

Not sure what you meant by this. Do you mean to the bank or taxman?

I think this is biggest risk, not chain analysis.

Banks might want to block money if you received fiat from someone they think is suspicious or for whatever  reason...

You see, if someone does mention either Bisq or crypto  or both, bank may record the relevant address as the risky one, and then share this data with other banks on mutual agreement , and finally this info may eventually fall into the hands of chainalysis agencies.

Well I assume most people aren't dealing with huge amounts.

It may not be huge, say up to $1000, but more than often. The frequency and total volume are also taken into account.

Yeah that's probably the biggest concern. Like you don't know who you are dealing with. He may be a great dude with the same problem as you: He was an early adopter and got some coins that do not come from your average CEX, meaning that he may be handling you coins with some AML risk, and then you go and deposit these coins in a CEX and you have a problem, even tho none of you did nothing wrong. Or even if you don't deposit them in a CEX, the bank or taxman may ask for source of funds. It's one of those things. I don't really see a solution, the moment you interact with fiat interfaces you assume so much risk unless everything is ridiculously traced to the point Bitcoin becomes unusable.

Latest Bisq Easy release, namely 6.5.0.

This is the must have one as it is focused on security update.

Particularly It runs on the newer Bisq 2.1.14 core and  newer Tor, so trades should be safer. You should update before November 25, because older versions may stop seeing offers and messages after that date.

I have downloaded the pp from play store from.the official website but I am facial a challenge to complete the installation and use it but it is always writing bootstrap, Tor fail to start and connection lost therefore I should restart Tor or clear Tor data and restart. I have tried it for several times but the same issue. Is there anything I can to do bypass this or fast forward it? If this works, it will be very nice for p2p.

I had been struggling to use the desktop version in 2022-2023 since it wasn't work for me,I have to left it. And here we come again to try the android version.
