The point of the challenge thread is to encourage people to run a node. If most people are turning off their nodes after they receive merit then the challenge thread should be shut down because it would not be serving its purpose. However, I do not want to do that.

It seems beneficial to make the period of time to run a node to be long enough and the merit rewards (more like payments in a sense) periodic so that the network benefits long-term from the extra operators. As even an account farm each running their own nodes strengthens the network but would not be so great from a Bitcointalk perspective. So that is also not something I would want to consider at this time.

I know you have good intentions, and you probably have indeed helped several people learn how to run a Bitcoin node, but I'd be willing to wager that the majority of participants in your thread never ran a node at all and are just getting screenshots from someone who is. The percentage of honest participants is probably close to that of the Push Ups thread, which is also a Mega Merit Farm thread.

Any bit of generosity, kind-heartedness or faith in the decency of others displayed on the forum will be thoroughly taken advantage of by conscience-free account farmers... these people believe in nothing -- they don't care about Bitcoin, contributing to the forum, or anything else. They will say or do anything to enroll a 4th account in a signature campaign, so they can write thousands of nothing posts about cricket and soccer that nobody will ever read.

I'm not saying stop the thread, but do be aware that your generosity is being taken advantage of on a massive scale.

Well, I see an essential difference there. The thread about running a node is clearly made with good intentions, but the other one, I dare say, I doubt. Besides, the difficulty of getting screenshots of someone running a node seems to me, a priori, greater than that of writing how many push-ups you have supposedly done.

Don’t know about the others on the list, the only reason I responding to this baseless accusation is because you mentioned my name there and I’ve only got one thing to say to you. If you don’t have a solid evidence to incriminate any of those accounts listed above to be part of an account farm or an alt, then I advice you shut your whole and do something more meaningful with your time, rather than mentioning accounts simply because they participate in threads like buy buy buy or sell sell sell, W/o or they’re from a particular local board, that legit seems like a baseless and clueless argument, so if you don’t have any solid evidence linking any of those accounts to another account then just shush…

What do you mean? Since the challenge is 14 days you can get data from a third party at any point during the same day and it will be different across each account. To be fully sure it is always different you can get entries at every different block, meaning that you could get at most 144 (6 blocks per hour times 24 hours) accounts to participate concurrently. They just need someone to give them the output of the getblockchaininfo command.

That's exactly my point. It is a question of whether they are shutting it down immediately as soon as they get the merit (or until they participate with another account) or not. If they are then the challenge thread does not benefit the network. I don't know the best way to improve your challenge but I am certain that the current situation with it is not that good.

Facts do not care about emotions. There is nothing hateful here. The most common and worst account farming and spamming that I have seen since I have been here lead me back to the Nigerian board. That makes my post factually correct. Perhaps it was another local board that was the bigger culprit in the past. If individual examples of your people were actually better behaved you would be scrutinizing these farms yourself, instead other users from the same boards encourage or at the very least ignore their existence on purpose. In any case that makes the others complicit. Silence isn’t neutrality, it’s consent dressed as cowardice.

Well, as far as the user side is considered I think 2 real entries are better than 100 entries where many are fake. In terms of checking things, I think you could ask some reputable forum members or other merit sources for help in evaluating the entries. I am sure that plenty of them would help you? Is there no good OCR these days that would work on pictures to read the data? In that case it could be automated at least to some extent. In any case many good things tend to be ruined by bad actors.

I mean, I had no idea it was that easy. After your reply, I searched and saw that it's very easy to post fake screenshots to make it look like you're running a node. If NotATether can't or doesn't have time to verify the screenshots as he says, I would not think twice about locking the thread. In the end, the innocent will pay for the sins of the guilty. I thought people were actually running a node in that thread, but seeing how things are, nutildah is probably right in saying that the percentage of people running it is probably similar to the percentage of people actually doing push-ups in the infamous thread.

I think before you report any account there should be solid evidence that shows that account belongs to one person, come to think of it how do you think one person could get all these account you mentioned here. It seems as though the puppeteers have made a decision to avoid posting in this thread. The only account that posted but played ignorant by asking how he could help, was the "Fuso.hp" account. If they had nothing to hide, they would have posted in this thread and questioned me about the feedback I gave them.

The "MrNata" account did not post here nor send me a PM regarding the message in the OP. It has posted though therefore is still trying to increase rank.

Instead of simply using the report function on posts he figured out that he can earn merit by making a new post for each one he sees here. Perhaps mr. theymos should consider a rebrand to comedytalk soon.

Result is mega farm multiple account with same merit whore cycle. You can check that user zaka and ms mining starting to the same to gain merit.

But all this neutral is useless if campaign manager keeps accepting this user to campaign. As if they don’t care about the farming in forum.

Today's farmers are the same people who were caught long ago and given negative tags, but who have opened dozens of new accounts and are "smart" enough to leave no traces that could be detected. This further indicates their farming when we see them carefully concealing their wallets, which simply don't show up in the archive. Can newbies do this? No. Therefore, farming on the forum is thriving, and nicknames with the meaning "catch me if you can" definitely hint at the hunter and the cunning prey. The observation that neutral tags are becoming useless is indeed true, although not all managers are indifferent to such tags. However,  the company signatures of "blind or indifferent" managers are overflowing with scribblers with ten accounts who submit applications for participation in a row and then write the same nonsense in mega-threads.

The Fuso.hp account posted here once trying to play ignorant but did not post again. All the accounts seem happy to ignore this thread.

The puppeteers use the forum for benefit. The incentive to post in the forum are the financial rewards via signature campaigns therefore 10 of the 13 accounts listed above getting paid an accumulative hundreds of USD$ every week or thousands of USD$ every month makes them a valuable asset.
