I see politics in Nigeria as a high-stake, dirty, useless, brutal, corrupt game marked by intense competition, often accompanied by violence, corruption and insecurity.
The country's electoral process has been marred by manipulations, religious tensions, ethnic tensions, which has led to a climate of fear and mistrust among citizens.
The game also weakens our national institutions such as the judiciary, INEC, the security agencies, education etc.
The game also influence and encourage embezzlement, greed and selfishness. It also encourages clannishness, nepotism and cronyism. What this means is that, whoever gets to the top, he/she would want to empower someone from his/her clan (clannishness), or friends/relatives (nepotism), or friends/relatives without regards for their qualifications (cronyism). That's the Nigeria we're in and it's killing the country.
What do you expect? For politicians to fold their hands and do nothing during elections? Gone are those days where elections are won with free and fair process. Currently, there are quite different settings when we're talking about politics and how power is been manage and controlled.
Know something, corruption didn't start today in politics, it have always been in the roots of politics. The difference today is simple, it escalates and generally practiced with the offenders going scortfree without any punishment. In today's politics, politicians dirty their hands and don't expect anything or judgement from anywhere, you know why? Because they're the law and bigger than the rule of law in the country, that's to show you bad and worse the system have become.
