Ever regret introducing people to Bitcoin

Bitcoin is now more popular compare to 2017, many who called bitcoin a scam have no more reason to keep saying so even when they failed to do their own research, they don't have a reason to call it a scam anymore, even President Trump is now all over it.

Which makes me believe that gone are those days where you are actually helping to create awareness by hosting some gathering or visiting a local school nearby to teach about Bitcoin and the blockchain.

I did this few times in the past but I had more bad experience than good, I ended up creating more enemies for myself than I hoped for, my job was quit easy but my fellow country men and women have their own ways of digesting words and lessons.

Today I have people who don't talk to me anymore and I believe the fault was never mine, I did my part very well, I warned them about software wallets and how they can consider electrum for a time being.

Three of them got their wallet compromised, one lost his bitcoin to a wrong address, I guess clipboard hijacking, these aren't just people, they are friends and family member, but there is one who did all the necessary things and still a holder till date, I wish I can turn back the hands of time and never sit anyone down to teach them anything.

I look like super hero because Trump is supporting Bitcoin, if kamala won the election and the news was Bitcoin had to go, they would have come for me because it looks like they are waiting for such day to come.

I just can't understand how you could make enemies just by spreading information about Bitcoin. You're just teaching them about Bitcoin, what makes them consider you an enemy just because of something like that? It's just ridiculous.

That was an unpleasant experience for you, but I feel that you shouldn't let something like that affect you. You are not at fault at all, so you don't owe anyone anything. If they consider you an enemy, let them be, you just need to ignore them and find an environment where you can be more appreciated. Just stay true to your values and move forward.

You don't need to rely on people like Trump, who have their own agendas regarding Bitcoin. They can change at any time.

What you should have done is stick firmly to the value of Bitcoin as you understand it. Because people will change, but Bitcoin won't.

Not necessarily a regret, but I once sent a small test/gift amount of BTC to an account I made for a friend (I think around 2014 or 2015 or so), and he lost the access data (it was a hybrid wallet on blockchain.info where you could access the coins via your own keys but also with username/password, first epic fail lol). I temporarily had stored the data myself too, so I should have kept them safe. Or I should have instructed him how to keep them really safe. Now in 2025 at $100,000+, if he'd hodled and still had access, the BTC amount would now have been significant.

The regret is more that back then I was excited about Bitcoin and should have learnt a bit more about the technology and "safe use" patterns before recommending it to friends. And I think this is also the essence of your post: Your friends missed some of the knowledge which now should be considered "mandatory" for Bitcoin users and hodlers.

Regarding your remark about Trump: Bitcoin doesn't depend on politics. Maybe we would be slightly lower because the whole "US strategic reserve" move wouldn't have happened, but the essentials for the current Bitcoin bull run were laid in 2024 with the ETF approvals, and it's unlikely that a Democratic government could have stopped what they themselves started ...

Yeah I regret I told some friends about it. They ended up buying in full hype every bull run & selling in panic every bear run. I have a few examples of people doing this cycle like at least 20 times before they gave up & called it a scam lol. Some people just aren’t made to make money

I do not want to blame you as I believe you had good intentions but why is it that three of them got their wallets compromised? There has to be a common denominator. It is too much of a number just to be a coincidence.

Just that when someone already had preconceived notions about bitcoin, I regretted mentioning bitcoin because I already know that they have now a different perception of me or about bitcoin just based on their biases.

You are right, it shouldn't be about Trump or politics, I don't like it either but these  people are the type that failed to understand decentralisation, they depend on what the world dictates for them, if their president says something is bad then to them it is bad.

They are the type that waits for what the centralised rulers are saying before they can take actions, the main goal they invested was to make money in few months to few years down the line and I never promised them that it will happen, but losing their bitcoin was devastated to them I can see.

I can still remembered a call I received one morning, the person was saying ' I thought you said Bitcoin is not a scam' I had to calm him down first before he can explained, in the end it was his fault, I told him what went wrong, he accepted, or so I thought.

The change of attitude since that day onward says a different story.

I also have those people that have talked to me and when they have failed with their holdings because they didn't hold, they've blamed me. But the fact that I've told them to hold and the market is highly volatile, they have to understand that it's going to be a roller coaster ride. And when the market has fallen, they put all the blame to me and they're not talking to me anymore and so I am. People always want to have instant of things where they don't want to take things seriously and do it patiently. I'm no longer friends with them and that's fine for me.

It doesn't happened all at once, all this happened between 2021 and 2025.  These are people that I always see almost every week, it would have been better if I am living hundreds of miles away from them

I have no such regrets because I have always been very careful about these things because life had taught me to not think about making others take benefit what you are benefitting from because people won't see the positive thoughts behind everything you do, and as soon as something bad happens, like them losing money, then you are the one who is going to be blamed for it since you were the one who taught them about it, so they believe that whatever happens, you are the one who is responsible for it whether it's profit or loss. That's why, I have never tried to teach people about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies unless someone comes and asks me first.

This is not necessarily what would happen. Bitcoin is on the verge of becoming immune to any bans.

Not really. I shared some information about it in the early days but I cut all those contacts a long time ago. There is no good reason to expose yourself like this unless someone else initiates the conversation and shows interest. People talk you know. Someone will tell someone else, and it will continue to spread. If you are unlucky someone will understand your introduction to Bitcoin as you being Bitcoin wealthy and then you may have a problem at your door one day.

This would be more interesting and informative than personal stories of regret, they are not that useful. I believe also the loudest talkers are the people that most often know the least. Now you are not as you were back then.

The crash was sudden but it was not dramatic. It is clear that you have not been around for a long time.

It don't always end up well when you tell the people you know to invest in Bitcoin. Unfortunately, we get to find out about that late when we have introduced the people we know to Bitcoin out of the love we have for them to join the train of financial freedom. We don't know it will turn out bad for those we didn't follow the instruction we told them to.

It's an eye opening to us all, and to learn from that experience, not to introduced people to Bitcoin unless they develop the interest by themselves, we will only tell them the things they need to know. It will be left for them to invest or not.

That is the fact about human beings. When you show some people ways they can benefit and they later make mistakes and fail, they will blame you who showed them the way instead of blaming themselves. Even when they know the fault is theirs, they will still find an excuse to blame the person who helped them.But if they succeed, only a few will acknowledge your contribution or point out that you were behind their success. Most will claim they achieved it entirely on their own.So, in this life, sometimes you just have to do certain things for a purpose, and not expect anything in return. Don't be offended by the behavior of some of these people toward you.

Even I introduced some people to Bitcoin, and not all of them succeeded. But the way I introduced them was by teaching them the basic things they needed to know about Bitcoin and the crypto industry. I told them to do their own research, and that their research should be the reason they decide whether or not to invest.Honestly, they followed their own research, and none of the people I introduced to Bitcoin gave me any attitude.

This has reduced mainly because of security reasons. People who host seminar or lectures where Bitcoin is taught are now a big target for criminals because some people have the wrong impression that everyone in Crypto-currency especially Bitcoin is wealthy.

If you did not properly teach them how to protect themselves then maybe you are to blame. What people who teach others about Bitcoin do wrong is that they just talk about the investment possibilities, although these is what people wants to hear still you have to tell them the attacks they can face and how they can be safe in the Bitcoin space.

Bitcoin is a great cryptocurrency that has make some people reach the highest level, but some people that doesn't now about it might find it very difficult to understand. Because some people are ungrateful to the extent that if you tell them about the existence of honey and make them test it, immediately they feel it sweetness, they will be looking for a way to reward you with bitterleaf.

My regret so far has been more of annoyance with my oldest brother, whom I've warned several times to buy bitcoin since 2019, specifically at the start of COVID 19, because the bearish momentum could be exploited to buy more. But he never listened to me and instead jumped into the shitcoin, and everyone knows the end of shitcoin.
He keeps trying to contact me, but this time I won't offer any advice about investing in bitcoin. You know, every year there's momentum but this time I'm ignoring it.
