they have concluded that this industry only contributes minimal part to the economy which is why they are pushing for strict regulation or a complete ban of online gambling.
I hope that some huge advocates and real players in the industry challenges them on this and let's see how the impact will hit them hardly.
The initiative about having these graphical warnings are okay. It's normal for an online casino to have it.
And that's because with so many teenagers and kids that have their own gadgets today, they're free to access these and so a warning is a must to push them away.

Well, probably it got worse considering it's easy to gamble these days and probably lot of underage children are much involve nowadays in gambling. I think they have the basis to do so and tbh they'll do whatever they pleases that I think it's for the common good. I'd rather not ban it but still up for strict regulation and probably impose heavy taxes on every local or online casinos that operate in the Philippines. It has lot of users and saying it was just contributes a minimal part is probably an understatement.

Graphic warnings do help. I remember my manager from my old work who stopped smoking due to the graphic image shown on the pack of cigarettes.

But I am really curious what kind of graphic content they can show that relates to gambling. Broken family? People living in the streets? A car owner who became a bike owner? There's really no physical sickness in gambling, unlike with cigarettes. It's mostly emotional effects and madness. I doubt they will show suicide on local channels.

The kind of ads that some casinos are offering is very deceiving and could be the reason why some regulators see gambling the way they do, and some gamblers also approach gambling with the wrong mindset, pushing them into addiction, which could in turn trigger whatever bad attitude they have in them, and the community will end up blaming gambling for every action they take as a result of being addicted to gambling. I would prefer to go with tighter regulation over banning gambling completely.

I don’t think it’s too much. I feel it’s appropriate because currently gambling platforms no longer think about the impact they have on the lives of citizens they have become too fixated on getting people to use their platform then the aftermath and I think that’s why the government of Philippines is pushing for this ban or graphics warning in the country.

If they know they’ll be able to control it and maintain things as it is then they should go ahead with the ban, not the in that they’ll pave a ban and then not put things in ground to keep it from not being enforced or creating an avenue for those in power to abuse it (like in my country) if they can manage the ban properly then they should do it. I’ll probably prefer some kind of restriction in my country too because things are getting out of hands.

I believe this type of activity needs to be regulated not only to maintain control but also to ensure taxes can be directed toward truly important activities. If the impact on the economy is minimal, it's even more important to seek a balance to prevent many people from becoming dependent on it.

Graphic warnings do help. I remember my manager from my old work who stopped smoking due to the graphic image shown on the pack of cigarettes.

I have buddy from another country, when he visited Philippines and see the graphic content on cigarettes here, he can't take it so he stop.

But I'm not sure if it will have a similar effect to the gamblers as both could be addicted, but the thing with gambling is that it involves money and there was always this hope that you can win big.

So it might not deter gambling in our country although there are reports that gambling activity is down in the Philippines.

I don't think the warnings are required because gambling is bad. But as a form of prevention, a warn that this service is only for those over 18, and that excessive use can be harmful and lead to irreparable losses and addiction. Think about cigarettes; they can be sold, but their packaging must contain warnings about their potential to cause lung cancer, mouth cancer, and other diseases. So, I think this is normal, and it's certainly much better than banning them and harming the economy, since casinos generate jobs and taxes.

No they are not too much. I have always been in favor of proper warnings of all things that can have disastrous consequences, so people know beforehand what they are getting themselves into and then it's up to them.

Very interesting, I would like to see what kind of graphics warning they're going to put out here.

For smoking cigarettes, I would understand the gory and the bad effects of it, like having throat cancer or teeth being stain by the nicotine. But in gambling I don't have any idea about it. Maybe going to like into rehab?

How can they display lives of gamblers getting rekt? Or maybe a image of person behind bars because he can't pay his loan or worst scenario is unalived someone?

I think they’re just making things more complicated. Trying to overregulate doesn’t really help, especially when the real problem is corruption. There’s no need to overdo the warnings, casinos already have clear signs like “18+” or “21+ only,” and that alone tells gamblers they need to be of legal age before playing.

This is also what I'm thinking, the Philippine government might just be wasting money here with that ads as I don't see it going to affect gamblers. And it's true, this is just complicated and they are over regulating it. Perhaps they just wanted to let the Filipino people that they are doing something because it has been in the spot light lately?

Besides, gambling is meant to be entertainment, so why keep adding more warnings?
It’s like they assume most people who enter casinos are automatically at risk of addiction. I think that’s the wrong approach.

Not everyone will be gambling addicts, most of us here might not be gambling at all. There were even threads that members here telling that they haven't been in a land base casinos. In any case, I do agree with you that this is a overkill with such graphics warnings. Gamblers are too smart to fall for it.

In my own opinion, the graphic warnings isn't necessary because gamblers would always gamble even after reading those graphic warnings. The department of finance knows how best her citizens should handle their money, and if they find out how irrelevant gamblers are misusing their funds on online gambling why not go for a strict regulation just like what they did on citizens smoking cigarettes.I would prefer a strict regulation rather than a ban, because most addicts can't control their gambling urges,so the regulation would really help for those that have chose to gamble irresponsibly.

philippines' department of finance is pushing for graphic warnings against online gambling

the department of finance has conducted research they have weighed the benefits of online gambling against the disadvantages of online gambling and they have concluded that this industry only contributes minimal part to the economy which is why they are pushing for strict regulation or a complete ban of online gambling. obviously gamblers would want to at least be able to gamble even if it is heavily regulated. are graphic warnings across the country too much? has online gambling gotten so worse that it warrants this much reaction?

read news here

The government just promotes responsible gambling, but, unfortunately, these warnings are simply ignored. I may not say this is too much or a waste of money, but I see it was not an effective strategy to control addiction and illegal gambling. Gamblers will always find a way to fulfill their addiction. In fact, even in our family or among our friends, they won't listen to our advice. How much more with these graphic warnings? Online gambling is difficult to control.

Even though they are strict with the KYC system, that won't eliminate illegal gambling and addiction.

Graphic warnings do help. I remember my manager from my old work who stopped smoking due to the graphic image shown on the pack of cigarettes.
That’s shocking. So it does work. Some people can look at graphics of lungs destroyed and still buy packs and packs of cigarettes anyway.
Quote
But I am really curious what kind of graphic content they can show that relates to gambling. Broken family? People living in the streets? A car owner who became a bike owner? There's really no physical sickness in gambling, unlike with cigarettes. It's mostly emotional effects and madness. I doubt they will show suicide on local channels.
Effects of gambling usually involve mental health which is difficult to show physically so it might be a challenge for them to portray all possible effects of gambling. They might just show people living on the streets yes.

Phillipines lately have been on news as it relates to gambling activities. Well, their finance department pushing for graphic warning is not bad as it would help pass across information especially message of warning to none gamblers and new gamblers to take caution while gambling. It is a good one though but the truth is that it can never stop gamblers from gambling rather it could help curtail gambling excesses and make sure people gamble moderately.

Another thing I will say is the message the graphics is passing across let it not be what would discourage people from gamblers to totally stop the industry from existing because it is better to tell them to park up than to indirectly discourage people from gambling thereby spoiling their gambling business and at the entire end want to collect tax from them when you have painted a bad image about them to the citizens of the country and gradually putting them in extinction.

philippines' department of finance is pushing for graphic warnings against online gambling

the department of finance has conducted research they have weighed the benefits of online gambling against the disadvantages of online gambling and they have concluded that this industry only contributes minimal part to the economy which is why they are pushing for strict regulation or a complete ban of online gambling. obviously gamblers would want to at least be able to gamble even if it is heavily regulated. are graphic warnings across the country too much? has online gambling gotten so worse that it warrants this much reaction?

read news here

I mean i think its definitely not a bad thing. People have to realize that gambling can be addictive and they have to be aware of what they are getting themselves into, especially young kids that dont have great peers or good parental leadership grounded in faith etc etc

Whether it's too much or not probably won't matter. It won't have much effect, anyway. It won't change the culture of gambling in the country. Gambling is so deeply embedded in the culture that merely displaying graphic warnings won't change a thing, or at least it won't in a lifetime. This is like the graphic images in cigarette packs. I doubt there's a significant effect of that among smokers. But so be it. This is another effort to fight against gambling addiction. Every effort counts.

Yeah, most likely no one can stop gamblers, if they can make a lot of excuses and reasons and means to gamble, like borrowing from someone and then making up stories so that the person will not doubt them, then even if they see graphic warnings if will not make any difference. There could be similarities between smoking and gambling but for sure there are also a lot of difference. Smoking is more on the images and graphics and that's why it's effective if we can say that. But for gambling addicts, it's very different, it's more on the mental thingy. So very hard to stop them even with those graphics warning.

Seems like more Nanny State nonsense. Lots of countries are like this & I find it quite annoying. We should all be able to make our own decisions. Gambling is a past time, a hobby, no government should be able to take the decision out of our hands. Hopefully they don’t follow through on this.

I don't mind graphic image to warn people about the dangers of addiction in anything that can get them addicted and affect the quality of their lives but there should be moderation. It depend on the type of image that is being displayed for gambling, if it is a gory image of someone that got heart attack and died immediately after losing big I will say that is extreme because other things can cause it. Gambling is not bad if you engage in it responsibly, it is the abuse of it that is giving it a bad name therefore I think that a government can just focus on messages about the dangers of addiction then advice people to gamble responsibly.

This is what they said ..

Quote
"We emphasize the necessity of implementing robust safeguards, including but not limited to the following: the displaying of graphic warning signs of the addictive nature and adverse impacts of gambling, implementing strict measures to prevent minors' access to e-games, as well as implementing paying time or betting cashing-in frequency limits to possibly prevent addiction,” she added.

This is similar to cigarette selling in the Philippines, where the government imposes a high tax called the “sin tax” and requires warnings that say smoking is dangerous to your health, even showing pictures of people who got diseases from it. But look at the reality: it still hasn’t changed much. People continue to smoke despite all that.

So I don’t think it’s necessary to put graphic warnings on gambling either.

The KYC process already ensures that gambling platforms are only accessed by mature users.

You know what. We got the exact same deal in Canada. There is a huge tax on cigarettes and every box of cigarettes have photos of diseased liver or rotting death due to cigarette smoking. Does it make a difference? Not one bit.

Reason why because the person is already addicted. But in the recent years the millenials dont really smoke. Same with the newer generation. Maybe they vape and thats about it. I think when they banned cigarettes everywhere and no longer shown in the movies, it had an effect. Now you go out and you rarely see someone smoking. Even cars dont come with cigarette lighters anymore. However I dont think it was due to those graphic images. I just think smoking wasnt cool anymore and it stunk so people moved on to something else.
