Changelly froze my BTC to USDT swap worth $179,000 and stopped replying

Hi everyone,

I am posting this because I really need help and advice. I used Changelly to swap BTC to USDT for about $146,000. Everything looked fine at first. I sent the BTC, and the transaction showed as processing.
Then it suddenly went on hold for KYC verification.

I completed all their requests right away. I uploaded my ID, gave them bank statements, and provided proof of funds. After that they started asking questions about the receiving wallet, which I do not even control directly. When I explained this, they said my case was under review and since then they have completely stopped replying.

It has now been several days with no updates. Support ignores emails and the chat only gives automatic messages. My funds are stuck and I feel like I have been scammed.

This is a large amount of money and I trusted Changelly to handle it properly. It is shocking that a big service can freeze BTC to USDT transactions like this with no communication or solution.

If anyone here has had a similar problem with Changelly or found a way to get their frozen funds released, please share what worked. I would also appreciate any advice on how to report or escalate this issue.

I am posting this not only to look for help but to warn others too. Always double check what service your wallet connects to before doing any swap, especially for large amounts.

There are many complaints against Changelly for freezing customer funds, and crypto users are writing complaints about them on various platforms, but this has not changed their character. I am surprised that you went to exchange such a large amount of funds on this exchange. It is not the right way to risk your funds by exchanging them on an exchange with a bad reputation. Since they stopped replying to you, I'm suspicious of their intentions. I'll send them an email and see if they reply back!

What you are doing is not right, You are spamming around different scam accusations claiming that you can help. The moderators are deleting such posts because they are not appropriate. Best case scenario is that you will so get tagged by DT members over shady practices, worst case scenario is that you will get a ban (temporary or permanent) if you persist.

This is a large amount of money and I trusted Changelly to handle it properly. It is shocking that a big service can freeze BTC to USDT transactions like this with no communication or solution.

They alwaus do this in case you didn't know Just do a simple google search to confirm

You are at risk to get your account permanently banned for your suspicious behaviors. You offer sounds fishy and anybody can smell the scam intention. You can consider your posts being deleted as a warning to stop what you pretend you are able to do. Your posts are more than just spamming. While moderation deals with your posts as forum spam, i think you deserve a neutral tag in your profile to warn users dealing with your suspicious offer. Don't be that dumb to treat everybody as naive. You are in bitcointalk forum.

@op I am sorry to tell you that you chose one of the worst services ever. And that you are at a great risk to loss your money forever. Changelly has been always careless to build a good reputation, and nothing more you can do. You had to carefully dyor before using such a service with this huge sum of money.

Oh my, this is bad for OP. I'm not sure why he didn't get a glimpse of what kind of service changelly has got and how many complaints were there before he has used them for his $146,000 fund. Most of the cases that I've read before is the same as yours OP. I'm not sure on how many of those were solved and changelly eventually have released their funds. I've used them long time ago and fortunately never got any problem of it but, I stopped when I've read complaints like this and it was years ago.

Honestly, I'm not sure how relevant Bestchange is as an aggregator service. OK, as a search tool, they may not be bad, but the feedback on their platform is always moderated and adapted to exchange partners.
If a service is delisted from the BC platform, it is most often due to their mutual relationship, and very rarely due to the claims of end users.

I'm not sure on how many of those were solved and changelly eventually have released their funds. I've used them long time ago and fortunately never got any problem of it but, I stopped when I've read complaints like this and it was years ago.

I think a long, long time ago, they were Ok until they started acting cocky. When you look at settled financial claims, those were complaints that have been resolved (https://www.bestchange.com/changelly-exchanger.html?filter=cancel) You will notice that they are way more (79) than the positive feedback (62)

The funny bit is that they can disable and enable an exchanger at any time they feel like. I am more than sure this is not the first time they have disabled Changelly.

Changelly is a swap service that selectively scams certain users and causes no problems for others. You deposited a large sum and they figured that it would be worth the reputational loss to scam you and try to steal your money.

When you say that you don't control the receiving wallet directly, what do you mean by that? is it a custodial wallet of an exchange or a similar custodial service whose private keys you don't own?

This is actually the correct method, but it is disappointing to see crypto users sending hundreds of thousands of dollars in a single transaction. And as a result, we are now seeing that whenever someone sends big funds to various exchanges, those funds are blocked under various pretexts. This has been created as a trap by such exchanges.

Sorry for your loss, OP. Changelly has a well-funded marketing department that purchases ad space through Ledger and many other wallets and websites. The list of partners changes frequently with each quarterly budget and marketing campaign. 

As always, avoid using companies for example discover through ads. If you decide to use one, make sure to read their terms of service carefully. Check whether they are banned or restricted in major regions this is often a strong indicator of whether they are trustworthy or not.

Sorry about that OP, but I heard man similar cases related with Changelly .
You should really stop using Changelly, especially for large amount of coins like in your case.
I would suggest using alternatives that are decentralized and can't seize your coins, or you can use services
that provide some kind of guarantee for swapping coins on exchanges, for example OrangeFren is one good example.

It seems OP is not new to crypto, you are not a newbie, there is no way a newbie will know about TradeOgre and Changelly.
Changelly is not the same anymore since few years now, the day that Trust wallet removed Changelly from their inbuilt swap list is when I knew that something is going on.

If the money is clean, I mean the BTC you can still get it back.
How?

1. They are still working, their customer services is still up 24/7.
2. They have 47k followers on Twitter/X.

All you have to do is create a big attention, gather some armies, x users and let them start tagging Changelly with the accusations, go to CZ  page and also tag him, I am telling you, the more people are making a big deal out of the this the weaker Changelly gets and to safe some faces they will look into it faster and probably resolve the problem.

Like I have said, if the money/BTC is clean.

Well, I thought OP have some chance getting his funds back since Changelly is an old service. But after looking at this post, I feel like this is not going to work. Changelly just decided to make profit in unethical way. Exchanges earn very little commission from the orders, so they sometimes do selective scams that allows them to make huge profit which they earn in a month or so. People with large funds always get into trouble just because they have a lot of money. I am sure Changelly won't scam me for a $100. But if they see a $100K transaction, they will target that customer.

That’s a lot of money, and I would double checked, even triple checked to make sure I’m using the right service, yeah we all know that using CEXs is a big risk but at least there are some that has still got some dignity, which makes it a lot more safer to use their services.

That’s a lot of money, and I would double checked, even triple checked to make sure I’m using the right service, yeah we all know that using CEXs is a big risk but at least there are some that has still got some dignity, which makes it a lot more safer to use their services.

Basically, they only do this after they successfully make small transactions on such exchanges. And when crypto users send large amounts of funds, those exchanges block those funds on various pretexts. Because these exchanges know exactly how to scam crypto users. These exchanges have now created a very large cartel and many people are behind it. For whatever reason, these crypto users may try to avoid CEX, which results in them using these exchanges as an option to exchange their funds. But at the end of the day, they are putting their funds at risk because the chances of getting a refund if you send large funds to these exchanges are very low.
