Let's say you have a old man who you want to gift a Bitcoin hardware wallet, around that age of 72, which Bitcoin hardware wallet do you think is the most simplest for this age range?

Just realised I don't even recognise 80% of the Open Source list from dkbit98. Trezor, for better or worse, already seems the easiest but I wonder if a newcomer might refresh the list and experience (it's hard to really estimate how easy anything in Bitcoin is with existing knowledge/experience).

Ledger's not open source (not completely), and while I think there's a lot said about them, they also seem quite accessible when I've gifted them to people.

Not true, that is not how you do comparisons. We are comparing things within a category, and not whether using hardware wallets at all is simple or not. Therefore there are difference between them and one could probably be declared "the simplest". Whether the difference between the simplest and the second simplest hardware wallet is significant is also of importance. Sometimes even though we can order things within a category because on an attribute or feature, the differences are not significant enough to warrant consideration (and we choose by other metrics).

Yeah there is a mistake in the title. Pretty much every wallet is HD these days.

There is no need to complicate answers to this question. For first time users always stick with Trezor as Ledger is no longer recommended. Only if a person requires a second hardware wallet for whatever reason then should they consider exploring some other options from this list. Newcomers always need the best combination of usability and security and I don't think anything really beats Trezor in this combination.

I'm not sure there is a definitive simplest wallet, IMO there will be very little in the difference
between a lot of them in terms of useability and setup.

They all pretty much do the same thing:

Allow the user to:-
view the Bitcoin addresses owned
send and receive funds to those addresses
set a preferred transaction fee
sign messages from a particular address
along with user defined settings

so the user will have to record and verify the seed phrase and will have to setup a passphrase,
will have to learn how to send payment and verify addresses to receive payments, thats common
to whatever wallet you choose.

Just make sure you buy whatever wallet directly from the manufacturer and prioritise open
source wallets.

TBH, I've only ever used HW from Trezor so I can't 100% tell if they're the simplest given my lack of experience. Though, I've always thought it is beginner friendly. To put it simply, the learning curve wasn't steep, so it's not super hard to navigate.

However, I've seen a lot of older folks who did not do well with technology which definitely makes it harder to learn stuff. 😅

The site only provides a comparison of the hardware wallets available for sale on the site itself, including prices and thirdparty integrations… It doesn’t go beyond that and it’s not an official site either,  probably a self promotion just as you’ve  mentioned.
Buyers shouldn’t make the mistake of buying a hardware wallet from a non-official site or random resellers.
Make sure your HW comes from the official site or vendors/resellers recommended by the official site.

It's trezor for me, the simplest hardware wallet that I think even an old man without tech knowledge can use. The UI literally just say hold to sign everytime you try to make a transaction and thats it. I don't think there's any simpler UI/UX.

I agree with you, introducing a wallet to people is not the problem, but teaching them how to use it is the best option. Some people will find it difficult to understand because of how it works, while others will find it very easy to understand because they have already used something similar to it. People always go for what they will use to protect their assets at all costs, so introducing a wallet to people It is extremely useful, especially the beginners but educating them how it works and how it has been used is the best because if they don't understand how it works how it is going to be used.

It’s not officially Black Friday until next week but businesses are already offering deals. Trezor is offering a 40% discount on their Safe 5 and Safe 3 models. This is the hardware wallet that I use and am very satisfied by it. There are many tutorials on YouTube to help you get familiar with these devices. Although, at 72 years old, I wouldn’t expect an old person to understand modern technology.

I think it would probably be best to buy them a wallet, explain how it works, send them some Bitcoin and assist them whenever they want to transact. You don’t want them accidentally sending their sats to a scammer.

I would probably look for something with larger screen, or you could just use old phone with app like CupCake or Airgap, but in airplane mode with remove sim card.
If he still wants to spend money on real hardware wallet than I guess Keystone or Passport would be good options.
KeycardShell is another interesting alternative with good price, but it is still in pre-order status.

No one teaches anyone how to use a hardware wallet, if you can use a metamask or trustwallet and other app wallets then you are capable to understand how a hardware wallet works, there are many videos online tutoring people how to use Trezor and other hardware wallets too.

In today's world no one really need to be learning anything like a kid who still goes to nursery schools, online research is a professional teacher, there is nothing in this world that you can't learn online, even how to make bombs are available if you find the right channel to them.

The only thing left is the difference between these Bitcoin and crypto wallets, even this is available online, in everything research should be put first.

Personally I would recommend a Trezor Wallet, the model is quite indifferent if you are only interested in BTC, even the model One would be perfect. It is not difficult to use and configure. But at the end of the day, honestly, if you inform yourself and do a search on the internet on how to configure the hardware wallet in question, no wallet will give you big problems.

I have checked that link and found nothing interested. I doubt that someone could drop such a link just for promotion. He surely knows what he is doing.
