When gambling was invented, it was initially a form of entertainment. Something that was occasionally ventured into and something they did particularly for the fun of it. But the moment that Money enters into the equation, especially in a situation where by people are desperately in need of extra source of income. I agree with you completely.  Not enough people gamble just because it is fun and end up losing way too much money thinking they will become rich.  The best attitude to have is that you are paying for entertainment.  That way you make sure you aren't wasting money and not having a good time or losing more than you want to spent on some entertainment.  I've seen people lose money they could have spent on a family vacation sitting at a table for a few minutes.  I agree if you make decisions like that, it is likely to lead to a depressing outcome.

I think that letting the emotion of wanting instant riches into gambling is tantamount to squandering your wealth. Gambling should be done in moderation to preserve your wealth. However, occasionally placing a large bet when you're absolutely certain you'll win is fun, even if luck is on your side. I don't think that gambling is that closely related to depression. You can get addicted to gambling, which might cause depression in the long run, but gambling doesn't cause depression directly. Also I don't believe that gambling can be used to "test your IQ probability and statistics".
Relying on statistics for gambling is a wrong move, because it makes you fall into the "gambler's fallacy". Gambling results are random and statistical patterns cannot be used to determine future outcomes. I agree that we shouldn't be taking gambling seriously. Since the beginning of it, gambling has been known to be a game of fun, entertainment and money. If you do not mention the money part of gambling, then you have not completely understand or mention the purpose at which people gambling. I agree with you. Considering gambling as entertainment doesn't deny that we also seek profit. It's just that we shouldn't expect big wins or overestimate our expectations, as that will undermine our true goal of seeking entertainment.

Essentially this is a matter of mindset. If you view gambling as entertainment, you won't become addicted to it because you're doing it purely for entertainment, which means you know your limits and can manage your emotions and finances.
