What is the safest place to write your seed phrase?

Now I'm on the verge of opening a new wallet account and my mind is telling me to store it on my phone instead .
  But one question still hits me .."What if someone steals your phone?". "And the person that stole your phone already knows your phone password?" Will he not automatically have access to your seed phrase?
  All of these questions leaves me in Hobson's choice ...any idea?
   

actually the matter of where to store seed is always difficult, considering the risk involved if seen by another person. many will advice you not to store on phone or email, or even writing on paper, but the question is that where is the best place to write? for me i dont care what people say about where is the best place to write it down, but i have where i write all my details down including my wallet seed phrase. i believe that what will be will be, if by chance i lost access to where i keep it then that's it.

the best place to store your seed phrase is crypto steel capsule. it is a metallic device that can help you to arrange your seed in orderly manner according to each word. the problem is that not too many people that knows about this crypto capsule. and secondly it will be hard to get in some places. for me just make sure you store you seed in a place that if one loses you can be able to recover it from other backup. this means that you need multiple backup to be safe.

This is also a good option especially if you know that the place you store those written key on sheet is safe from any burglars or trespassers.

But after so calamities happens in the world I also think that engraving our seed phrase on a metal sheet also a great option to do. Since if there's calamities like flooding or anything destructive calamities came we still have a chance to retrieve those important details.

If we write it up on piece of paper for sure that we don't have anything left to recover since it might get destroyed by those calamities.

But as far as back-up goes, rule of thumb is that you need a lot if, but don't back it up online or in a cloud.

One good way is steel backup. Or maybe a fire-proof safe but it should be hidden in plain sight so you won't be a target.

The method of writing on paper has been widely applied by most people, this method is very practical and easy to carry anywhere, or it can be folded into small pieces and then stored in a place that no one would ever expect. As is common, the principle of paper is that it is easily worn out or not moisture resistant, so it needs to be laminated to prevent it from coming into contact with water so that it does not fade easily.
Each individual has their own method that is considered the safest for storing seed phrases, I prefer to engrave the seed phrase on flat metal because I think this method is more effective than writing it on paper. Storing in different locations is also the best option to make it easier to get backups if one of them is lost or something undesirable happens such as a natural disaster or fire.

Before I bought my first hardware wallet I have always written down my seed phrase in a big note and keep the note inside my drawal, and this is my private space, only me get access to them, I don't share the room with anyone.

After I got hardware wallet I stopped writing the recovery seed on a book, now I carve them on a four corner shape like stainless steel and keep the steel in my drawal.

Writing down on paper has worked well for many people because not all Bitcoin investors have a fire breakout emergency, it rarely happens but this doesn't mean that we shouldn't prepare.

Well like other people keep saying its not ideal to store your seed phrase through online because there's no safe in the internet if your device or account manager gets compromised for sure most of your details will be stolen even your seed phrase which is the most important words that can get all of your assets.

Now personally I do recommend to write into a piece of paper and make a lot of duplicate of these of course that you are the only one knew where you keep it. Incase you lost a copy at least there's other more around. Or else you wanted to build a metal seed phrase backup. Well, basically all the storage methods we use have their own advantages and disadvantages, but I think we need to try them all, and also need to understand the security procedures further, whether it is when storing online or offline (in the real world). I am unsure if this would be a good idea. I would never store my seed phrases online. I think you meant digitally. You can use an offline computer with a new OS to create a text file, encrypt it, and then move it to a flash drive you can always carry with you, or keep it in a safe place to protect your wallet. Since there is a chance of losing it or having other problems, you can try doing it with multiple flash drives, and I hope at least one of them will remain in working condition. I haven't done it yet, but I am planning something similar if my holding amount reaches a certain amount of money.

Storing your seed phrase, your wallet backups online is bad as it exposes your wallets, wallet backups to many potential online threats that can compromise your devices, wallets, wallet backups and steal your bitcoin. Like you, I don't consider it as a good practice for your bitcoin storage and Bitcoin wallet backups. Exposing your wallet online means it is your hot wallet that should never be used to store big part of your Bitcoin fund.

Yeah, I know about these, and I was suggesting similar measures to Patinko to avoid storing their seed phrases online. Some people think they are storing it in a safe place if they store their seed phrases in the cloud, like Google Drive, iCloud, or something similar. However, they forgot that if their email address gets hacked, they lose everything, including access to their social media accounts, exchanges, casinos, and even their Bitcoin wallet.

People should consider getting hardware wallets, which can be considered the safest way to store their crypto if they own a hefty amount of money. Crypto-rich people mostly get targeted by scammers and hackers.

But getting hardware wallets you still have the same problem of writing your seed phrase down on a piece of paper, which can be lost, stolen, or damaged during a fire.

I still believe that the best place to store your seed phrase is your own head (they are called mnemonics for some reason), with the downside that if you get an accident or ill you can forget it -although, in that case, your coins may be the least of your problems.

Another good option is having a metal piece with your seed phrase engraved on it. You can still lose it or get it stolen, but unlike paper, it is immune to most damages.

I think the best form of storing the seed phrase is by writing it down, but making it safer depends on the location where it is stored, ensuring it won’t get damaged or stored in a place where someone can find out about it.

Because writing it down, its safety depends on you; I know ink and books can last a long time, depending on the environment where they are kept. I don't believe in online storage or offline storage on a device because anything can happen that might prevent access.

The answer to the question you just asked above depends. Because YES, if you titled the 12 letter words "Wallet Seed Phrase" on the up of the jotter before writing it. Because in that way it will be very easy for anybody who happens to have access to your phone to know that those 12 words are seed phrase that belongs to a wallet. And the second answer is NO, if only you didn't write on the title or head of the jotter "wallet seed phrase". Because whoever happens to have access to your phone won't know that is a seed phrase of a wallet, except only you and you alone. And sometimes in other to make it harder to guess, it's sometimes advisable you write it in descending order, rather than the usual ascending order.

Lol. It does not matter how you do it, you should never store your seed phrase on your phone, nor anywhere online. However, your idea here couldn't be more flawed, crypto is very popular right now and it does not matter if you indicate it to be a seed phrase or not, if your seed phrase is exposed, your funds would be stolen, because a lot of people know what it is.

And sometimes in other to make it harder to guess, it's sometimes advisable you write it in descending order, rather than the usual ascending order.

It is easy to lock yourself out of your funds when you obscure things during its back up. You may believe you are protecting yourself, but it may turn out to be counterproductive. Rather than doing this, extend your seed phrase with a passphrase. That's a much better extra layer of security.

My worry is, what if someone is suffering from temporary memory loss? How will they regain their wallet? The safest place is not the device which is connected to the internet, the only way is to save it offline so that no hackers can access it. Now, what will be the offline place? It could be on paper, saved in a bank when you have trust, or written on metal and buried. But the safest option is to write it on paper, decode it in a way that only you can understand, and then place it somewhere in your house that is unreachable by water, children, fire, etc.

I don't want to do anything extra ordinary because writing it on a paper has worked for me for several years and I am not changing that.

While people might see where you've written off your seed phrase who has no idea of crypto will just ignore it.

But with the increasing number of people being able to get involved into crypto, people needs to be extra careful when they are putting their papers.

Just put it somewhere safe and there should be no other people that know it but you.
