When I put a single $100 bet on sports and it loses it's pretty painful.

But if I lose the same $100 on slots it doesn’t feel the same. maybe because it takes hours? you’re just spinning, getting tiny wins/losses, watching the balance go up and down. the money kind of fades away slowly instead of disappearing in one shot, and for some reason I accept it easier. Not even sure if this is just how my brain deals with slow losses, or if the whole entertainment value thing is fooling me into thinking I’m getting something out of it. (weirdy...)

anyone else feel this?

I think for that slot own, I believe it’s because we have this feeling of satisfaction or feeling of paying for something we have done or the time we spent there unlike that of sports betting where you just bet once and then everything goes away.

I don’t know for others but I think when I bet on slots or casino games even if the total loss I’ll incur during my play there is still the same amount as to what I’d lose in a sports betting I still won’t have the same feelings towards it because of that “time”. Time is really important, because for slots you don’t just lose instantly you’ll win some spins and lose some and the thing keeps going like that until you finally run out of balance that period of getting wins and losses are some fun time.

It hurts cause you've lost $100 at once on a single bet while with slots, it can take a while before you finally burn through that same amount. I guess losing it all at one go hurts more than losing it slowly, by bit.
I think a lot of people may not be fully aware of just how much they've lost while playing on the slot machine and considering how low the amount that can be stakes on slot games, it's no wonder why people spend a lot of time immersed in it unlike perhaps sports betting and others where you're aware of the amount you've burned through so far.

It is so, until you willn`t calculate the expenses after you end the game.
You right that it is one big sum against lots of small expenses. It knows everybody who calculate his budget. One coffee, small toy for child, icecream for wife, beer after job. It sounds like nothing, but if you calculate it all - you`ll see big enough sum at the end of the month. Same here: $100 it is big enough sum, but $1 - it is less than coffee.

Gambling on slot games and betting on sport bet are just almost thesame thing the only difference is that in Gambling there are no prediction, while in betting there is predictiin. The fact is that the amount you gamble or bet with is what matters. For example if a person gamble with $100 at once and and lose, is thesame thing as a person who bet on sport at once and lose. And if a person bet on sport games with little amount for a long term, it is still same thing as gambling little amount for a long period of time. The results will be almost thesame thing, because there will be wins and loses. Just that you bet at once in sport and gamble tiny amount on slot. If you did thesame thing on sport as you did in gambling, you will have felt thesame thing.

The same way you go gradually on slot games, you can also still choose to play the same with the same amount on sport and make your game last longer and your losing time extend. Maybe you just feel that pain when it comes to sport because you have staked very high compared

Yea I agree with you. It is like if we decide to calculate how much we've lost to gambling, we all will realise that we've lost so much that we will start wondering how it was possible to lose that much money. The figures won't hurt much because we did not lose all that money at once.  If we lost everything in one gambling round, it would hurt so much that we might consider quitting gambling for ever

Loosing money this way (slot) is so exhausting both physically and emotionally, that is why it will pain whey more than sports betting
And it is also time consuming, giving you hopes, increasing and decreasing your expectations at the same time but on the other hand sport betting is just easy and swift it may hurt you but not as slot will

So definitely there goes the difference why one will hurt more .

I think you are right on your theory on why it hurts more to lose a certain amount of money in a single bet, rather than losing the same amount slowly on a casino game like slots, dices or blackjack. It is because it takes hours and several rolls or spins before getting ones wallet/budget completely drained/depleted.
There is basic psychology being those examples and it is one of the reasons people are more likely to get addicted to slots than addicted to betting on sports.

Just another reason to be responsible in gambling and realize than losing one hundred to sport betting and losing one hundred to casino games are basically the same financial loss.

This means that you have fun in slot games, you enjoy every spin and then can forget about losses in a normal way compared to when you bet, or other reasons because of the time difference when you lose money, in sports betting you lose quickly, whereas in slot games it is gradual. So I think when you have found gambling that you can enjoy then stick with it, because you won't get frustrated easily. But if you still want to bet then reduce your bankroll, this is one way I do it.

~snip

anyone else feel this?

My case seems a bit different. I think I get more disappointed when playing slot games, especially when I eventually lose my total balance to them. it kinda annoys me, though I get over it with time. But for betting, I easily get over it, because I don't get to sit and keep playing for hours before knowing my fate. I already know the outcome of my bet while watching the game live or following up with livescores. Betting is far more direct. Your chances of winning is obviously in the hands of those playing the actual game, while slot games makes it looks as if your chances of winning lies in your hands, but in reality, it's not. So, I feel that's why it's difficult to accept losing on slot games no matter the time spent.

...anyone else feel this?

While playing slots, you have a hope of winning. It keeps giving you hope of winning the casino as you keep playing, but you end up losing. The most annoying thing is, you surely will lose unless you are lucky.

In sports, the first 30 minutes can tell you the fate of the game, that is, if you bet on a single game. But whatever, it doesn't take long for you to take your profit or bear your loss.

anyone else feel this?

It is definitely tougher to be losing in slot games since we have the feeling of how we may lose our control with time, although the outcome is a pure chance. It is intriguing as compared to betting where we have a better visual representation of these results via live, slot games are frustrating in that there is no immediate indication as to whether our particular choice was correct or incorrect. Such doubt usually brings an increased frustration.

With small bets and long sessions of gambling, we actually used the money for something to get in return but if it's just lost in one single bet we will just have hard time accepting the loss thereby thinking it is pain. So it's not just the time but also number of bets dilute the effect of feeling the loss here. Just to put into an example, when you lose one dollar bill for hundred times over a period will feel nothing because every time you lose one dollar but losing a 100-dollar bill will feel different.

(weirdy...)

anyone else feel this?

lol well have experienced such then , I was play slots my money was actually going up and down till I didn’t even know when I empty my wallet . The truth is the thrill in it seeing your money increase and reduce given you up that once you hit the jackpot all your losses would be recover and most is just the opposite you will only lose more or lose all .  Something can also in trading is more painful when you lose huge amount of money once than losing it gradually through little losses .

When loss is big and recurrent in a short span of time the impact is quite great as compared to the recurrence in small proportion of the losses. Although these small losses might be an inconvenience, they might still affect our mental state. Assuming the amount of risk undertaken in each bet will enable us to be more equipped to handle huge losses in case they happen. Nothing is more than experiencing a huge loss that comes right after making a lot of mini wins.

Maybe it’s because we have high expectations with sports betting. When we believe we can win because we have skills, we feel bad when we lose, since it kind of tells us we weren’t good enough yet we still risked that amount. So there’s some internal blaming going on.

But with slots, for me, when I deposit money, I’m already ready to lose it all. I know the only way to win is pure luck, so if I lose, I just tell myself “better luck next time” and move on.  Smiley

I agree with your point that having high expectations for something and then not getting it, always causes a lot of pain. I believe that was the experience he went through. When playing slot games, he may not have had high expectations of winning, because he knows slot games are based on luck. But in sports betting before someone bet, they usually make some analyses first. Based on that analysis they may have some level of confidence that the game they predicted will come through. But at the end of the day, if the game does not happen as predicted, it can be far more painful than slot game you are playing are you fully believe in luck.

Basically, yeah, I mean, if it takes hours before your balance runs out, you are basically being slowly eased in that your balance is running out, and your brain has time to realise and think about the situation, unlike when you lose the $100 on a single bet. And yeah, I agree that it is easier to accept when your balance slowly runs out than just losing it on a single bet.

That should just be a mindset something.  Because a loss is actually a loss. And it all got lost on gambling.  Its just you that's visualising the entire senerio as lossing that way. You already know that gambling is gambling regardless ofbthe type or kind gambling you want to engage in. They all have more chances of failng than winning though the odds makes increases or reduces the chances.  But the fact still remains that you have higher chances of losing than winning each of the games

For me, there’s no enjoyment in doing this; your motivation is to make money

Because you enjoy doing this, and whatever losses you incur, they will not take effect because of the enjoyment you are having. When we are having fun while gambling, we are readying our mind to accept whatever results will come from our session. I often say that I'm ok with losing, at least I enjoy the game; this is the positive effect of gambling.

anyone else feel this?

I think it's pretty simple. It hurts when you put in a100 bucks and lose it on a single bet while losing the same amount over a period of time on slots doesn't hurt as much.
You see most of the times the real pain doesn’t usually come from just how much you’ve lost, but how your brain processes the loss or how it is allowed to feel the loss. Usually fast losses hits harder than slow losses and this is why most gamblers often underestimate slot losses because it’s slow and the machine is designed to make the damage caused by the losses to feel smaller than it really is…

Slot machines are intentionally built around this psychology. The slow trickle keeps the gamblers going, so even if they loss, they often don’t feel the losses that much, they just feel like it’s just part of the rhythm that they need to dance to.
