When I put a single $100 bet on sports and it loses it's pretty painful.

But if I lose the same $100 on slots it doesn’t feel the same. maybe because it takes hours? you’re just spinning, getting tiny wins/losses, watching the balance go up and down. the money kind of fades away slowly instead of disappearing in one shot, and for some reason I accept it easier. Not even sure if this is just how my brain deals with slow losses, or if the whole entertainment value thing is fooling me into thinking I’m getting something out of it. (weirdy...)

anyone else feel this?
I think you're right with the consolation of losing it slowly gives you a factor that you don't feel hurt when you lose it. But in sports, putting it on a single match is painful when you lose it after. And if you have won it, there's a sense of being pride that you're able to make it. That's why if you're going to go with that amount, make sure that you gamble it with the games that you like and are happy to lose it. It's not easy to accept losses but if you have found a way to do it, then all you have to do is to make sure that you're not going to feel bad when you lose everything.

The critical point is to realise that any bet has a risk so that after being intoxicated by the pleasure of winning or losing games, it can be hard to avoid falling into an obsessive state of the thrill or losing. When we gamble on an item we like, we must have it in mind always to accept losing in a free manner. Not to sound cliche but sometimes you need to take in that things do not always turn your way and we need to have the ability to shun the tendency of moving to the dark side of being depressed when we lose.

Have you thought about why it takes hours. Maybe the money is really that big to you that's why. I don't know how you sit comfortably and lose $100 at a spot, even me if I'm in your shoes I might feel the same. May be if you turn it around, bet on different games and then play it into different games like you are doing in slot, you will not feel any pain. If it's takes 1 hour to finish $100 in gambling, you can take a day before $100 will finished from your accounts.

You need to learn how to take rest too, this might not be mandatory but it's necessary. When you cool down on gambling, it makes you think better on how to gamble and when you lose you learn how to move faster than been emotionally attached to the game, also in all you do make sure you are not gambling more than you can afford to lose, I'm sure that if you lose $10, you wouldn't be upset like you said.

It's because you have enjoyed it when it took you long hours before you have dry and ran out of your funds.

But if you did that on a few bets and in less than a few hours you're already out or even less than an hour, you're regretting that you did it.

And with the slots, you can adjust your bets in the minimum that you can. While it's the same with sports betting but, you don't feel the need to do that and so, many sportsbettors max it out when they are confident with the match they're betting.

That should just be a mindset something.  Because a loss is actually a loss. And it all got lost on gambling.  Its just you that's visualising the entire senerio as lossing that way. You already know that gambling is gambling regardless ofbthe type or kind gambling you want to engage in. They all have more chances of failng than winning though the odds makes increases or reduces the chances.  But the fact still remains that you have higher chances of losing than winning each of the games
Nah, I don't view it the way you are doing, it's more painful to loss money once than gradually, the same it's also painful to spend cash than digital spending too. I've also experienced from what OP is saying to be true and that winning a little amount and loosing a little amount gives a gambler the adrenaline of success but in reality, there is no progress but down the same time.

As long as you’re having fun playing slots, it’s easier to forget the losses because at least you’re getting some quality time out of it. A hundred dollars, especially if it lasts you the whole day and you’re just on your free time, that can be fun since it’s money you’re already prepared to lose.

In sports betting, you put $100 on a team thinking they’ll win and you can double your money easily, then they end up losing in a blowout.. that one hurts. So it really comes down to expectations. The lower your expectations, the better.

That means your favorite game is slot game since you don't feel any sign of loss or pain, therefore If I were you, I will be playing more of slot game than sport because I am so relaxed with it and taking hour to lose a game not all of a sudden makes you feels like it is normal for you to lose the game and most times you are carried away with the fun in it, so you tend to enjoy the fun forgetting that you have use money in staking, it's kind of being tricky because of the excitement and entertainment involved .

The problem is, when we feel like losing in slots isn't as enjoyable or satisfying as losing in sports betting, this is what really plays into the hearts of slot gamblers. And this is what makes it so easy to fall into gambling addiction on slots. Yes, because we don't feel burdened when we experience losses, whereas slots are a form of gambling that is very easy to lose (unless you're very lucky to win).

This is different from sports betting, where we naturally put in the effort to analyze the game. So, we experience more mental strain and may even feel reluctant to do it again. However, this is actually far more effective in curbing our addiction than slots.

It's easier to accept a certain loss if you also gain benefits from it, like you enjoy the whole time betting on it before you lose everything. Unlike if you lose on a single bet in an instant, you will feel that you only waste your money for a bet that you never even have the chance to enjoy the game and roll your funds. Its a wasteful  time of money and time because you lose, but if you happen to win, luck makes it happen.

I guess what you feel is valid, you are not the only experiencing that. You just have to process your loss the positive way.

It feels like you have put so much effort to a particular sport bet and at the end of the game you lose the feeling is understandable that you have spent time and energy just for it to end in losses meanwhile you spend only a little time on slot and it give you the result either loss or win, hence it’s now a matter of time factor, time seem to be the reason why you feel like that. But it’s just same thing at the end of the day so all that feeling can be cleared out if you try again lol  Grin

I think I can relate, there are times when my session feels so short, making me not want to accept the same amount of losses, thinking that I had not enough.  I gamble to have fun and obviously to try my luck to gain some profit but, I can easily accept losses when my gambling session runs for more than two hours but it feels very different when my gambling session with the same fund last for less than an hour. I feel like I am missing something... (the length of entertainment maybe)

It is just weird, but yes, I agree with what you stated, the length of our gambling session can possibly affect our thinking.

Sports betting takes hours too, if you're betting on + and -, and over/under, you'll need to wait for the game to conclude to see the results of your bets. I guess most sports will at least take more than an hour to complete one game.
Maybe you're just being tricked with your brain being happy seeing slow progress or slow losses while playing slots. Plus, you can stop at any point if you don't want all your funds to be lost, and that's something you can't do in sports betting.
Some people just don't want to lose huge amount in one go, and they usually are the same person who's afraid to take a huge risks.

In my opinion, when losing in sports betting, there is a bit of disappointment in yourself because your analysis was not accurate. Besides that, it is indeed difficult to accept losing a certain amount of money in a single bet. Meanwhile, slots, which are designed in such a way, hypnotize gamblers much more effectively. There is a feeling that you might win on every spin, which I think is the reason why gamblers tend to accept their losses more easily. In general, many people probably feel the same way.

You're right, what makes losing at slots less heartbreaking is that we've already gone through the ups and downs of our balance, which provides a thrill and excitement. At least it allows us to fill our time with a smile, even if we still lose in the end.

This is the case. So when slot games take your money little by little over the span of two to three hours your brain does not feel like you have lost everything rather your brain feels like you have paid for the fun and the entertainment that is in it which is basically most likely the reason why you subscribed for it at first instance. So when your balance finally hits zero, you might just smile at it and know that you have spent your money to enjoy the fun and entertainment you experienced from the game.

Quote
One reason why losing in sports betting hurts more is actually the answer you've already stated: there's no process you go through, unlike when playing slots or other casino games, where we clearly see the ups and downs of our balance before losing.

But sports betting is different like you said it hurts more because for sports you probably have invested alot of your time into analyzing a game that is coming up next week since this week with the hope of placing your money into one ticket the next thing is you just watch the game and maybe the referee does a bad officiating and the next thing is your money is gone and suddenly you begin to have the feelings like you have been robbed off your money and even the excitement is not there. It is all about how the brain digests the both and it is due to the experiences you feel you have gotten from both

Yes, this psychological effect is 100% effective; if someone is slowly losing at slots, they will have time to come to terms with these minor defeats. After all, these minor losses are interspersed with small wins, and the gambler optimistically believes that the next spin could bring a big multiplier. So, there's no need to lose hope. But if someone instantly loses $100, it will certainly feel like a single, sharp blow to the gambler.

I know this feeling all too well. When gambling with small amounts, we sometimes win, and then we start playing again and again. As we often discuss gambling here, this is how we have fun. However, after placing a sports bet and getting a negative result, there's always a feeling that we've somehow underperformed in our analysis. We see our mistakes, which we thought were trivial, but the amount we lost clearly indicates that we no longer have it. Regret is obvious, as the desire to correct something immediately arises, but unfortunately, this never happens.

If you bet on slot games, you are working hard and playing for a long time, but when you bet on sportsbets, you are using your research. That is why if you lose $100, you don't feel anything because sportsbetting is much easier because you enjoy what you like to watch. But in comparison, slot games are harder and you have to focus more on the game to attract your attention, so you don't feel as much pressure even if you lose.

Instant wins and losses gives immediate joy or sadness, I think that is the reason why when you lose your bankroll within a short period of time you will feel empty and frustrated. When it takes time before you lose the same amount might not feel too sad because you've given a fight probably won and lost before losing everything. I think it's more of a phycological thing, I don't think that I've thought about this before but thinking about it now I realize that we naturally accept defeat when we've given a fight. If you take note that instant loses affects very so bad you can avoid it by stretching the amount that you plan to gamble with so you can enjoy yourself more.

Another way for casinos to drain a bettor of his cash without him raising alarm over it, at the end of the day the same amount of money would have been lost but naturally it's always more painful to lose that money at once than to lose it bit by bit, they small gradual reduction in the amount of funds you have left available to you isn't something you will complain about, it's to small and amount so why bother yourself too much about it, you are not the only one with this mentality, I will even dare to say that I have it too, I would much rather lose that money but by bit over time than to lose it at a single go, the timeline might even be the same since sports take longer time to play out so you can lose to slots multiple times in that timeframe and still feel bad over what was lost to sports gambling than what you lost to the slots.

Don't feel weird about this, because even though it may seem strange, I think it's a good behavior. We should be able to accept defeat. Failure to accept defeat can lead to chasing losses, which can lead to even greater losses.

And if you lose in sports and the pain is quite painful, you should control yourself so that the pain doesn't provoke you into betting larger amounts just to win.
