Yes. For me it's nothing new.
I almost never turn on the audio when playing slot games. The reason why I never activate the audio in slot games is, first, I don't like the music. Second, I don't want anyone to know that I'm playing.
There are negative perceptions that will be directed at me and other slot players. 
Besides, enjoying slot games isn't about the unique music. 
Therefore, while playing slot games, I haven't turned on the audio for a very long time, except in other non-gambling games. Even then, I use headphones.

I always turn off the sound. I don't like hearing it. But I never thought of it as a way to reduce my addiction. I still think sounds don't motivate me to play slots. The main attraction is the gameplay itself, and it doesn't matter how it sounds.
P.S. Besides, it usually sounds primitive and irritating to me, so I don't see how it could increase my addiction.

The sound have this way of regulating the mood of the player just like you rightly observed, for me its part of what makes slot game sweet. The developers of those games understood the importance of sound which was why they integrated them into the games, turning off the sounds when playing is not my thing, it makes the game boring. I prefer playing with the sound on, let the near misses come, they have little effect on me because I try my best to gamble responsibly. When you gamble within your limit, you will not feel much pain no matter what the outcome of your gambling is unlike when you gamble irresponsibly.

I also enjoy myself when the sound is on because it makes it more fun for me to listen. Honestly, I don't think I can play slots games without keeping the sound on, it doesn't make any sense to me because most times I would just decide to gamble just enjoy the experience.

This is my default behavior when jumping into slots as well, because all those sounds play into trigger responses and habit forming behavior. When you combine the noise with the visuals it becomes a powerful tool that casinos use to trap players and get them to return. I always wonder if a casino registers the audio being deactivated and treats you less favorably, but I doubt that is really true (because you could just mute audio externally and it would be undetectable to the site). It's even worse when they use the noises that represent a win but you just get a "near miss" instead. There are all sorts of psychological tricks that are in use but ultimately the aim is to earn the casino the most money.

Slots games are different, few of them have some nice tones that I wouldn't be able to get out of my head for a while, like those arcade style games we played as kid on Sega Saturn and others.

While many other slots games comes still annoying sounds, it doesn't take long for me to put them on 🔕 mode, there are video games I liked simply because of the soundtrack even when the games are not fun.

Oh! I thought it was just me who found it annoying. I always turn off the sound because even half an hour of playing can drive you crazy. Playing without sound is much more comfortable and allows you to concentrate better because the melodies only distract you and make the game more monotonous, and you can miss the moment when you should stop and take a break.

Someone said that any unpleasant or unwanted sound to the ear becomes a noise and disturbance that cause distractions. Apart from the winning sound that plays, the sound of those games can be super annoying and you won't even enjoy leaving it on for a long time because within just some minutes you are going to realize that the sound is even a disturbance to you and you will turn it off, I don't know if it's same to others but for me, even when I forgot to turn off the sound, I won't play for long before I realize how annoying it is.

When sound goes off, the user experience reduces, and that can reduce a gambler's urge to want to play more. The idea that music will affect them while gambling is not true. Music doesn't affect you in gambling, unless you are someone who likes a silent environment when doing something personal. I understand that there might be people who are uncomfortable to do gamble when there are people around. Regarding this topic, I have to say that I only turn the sound on out of pure curiosity to know how it sounds in each game, but I always play with the audio off because of what you said: it increases the excitement and I feel that it would make it more difficult to make conscious decisions about how much to stake and when to stop.

Many of us gamble for fun, but too much fun is normally not recommended, and especially when health or money are at stake.

I think OP probably has a good point that all the sounds create a sense of excitement. I probably won’t start turning them off any time soon but I can see why people who gamble too much might try turning the sound off.

It gives you a hit of dopamine hitting winning lines and the pageantry around the sounds and graphics amplify that. Maybe if you are struggling to limit your play it’s a good idea to turn sounds off.

Removing the sound from the game is the emptiness you will get, it feels strange and unpleasant, like a deaf person, he will never feel how pleasant it is to hear the sound of rain or singing on holidays.
Likewise in slots, you only kill your own happiness, just like when you watch a ghost/horror movie, if you turn it off the fear is not there, because the audio is very influential on your attractiveness as a viewer.

I also turn off the sound when playing slots. But it doesn't affect the situation as you said. I just don't like those sounds, even though my friend prefers to play with the sound on loud. There are indeed slot players who are more interested in familiar sounds. Maybe it's because of the effect you mentioned. Surely gamblers feel a certain stimulus from those sounds.
