I think addiction isn’t only about the percentage of money I lose, the real question is whether I can still control myself. If I keep gambling even when I know it’s hurting my savings, my goals or the people around me, this is already a sign of a problem. If I say that I’m not affected while burning half of my salary, this is already a red flag. Most addicts don’t admit they’re addicted, they’ll always say they still can even when it’s obviously getting worse. Gambling should be entertainment not a monthly bill.

Argument is one sign that you know he is addicted because he has not seen anything wrong with even 30% not to talk of 50% that he is using for gambling. He needs help.

An addict will not accept anything wrong with his addicted behaviour because he is out of his mind. How can a man constantly lose 30% of his monthly salary to gambling yet claim all is well. Even if someone constantly loses that percentage of his earning to any act of fun then something is wrong with that. If someone lose that, what about shelter like rent, what about feeding etc. 30% is enough for savings monthly. He surely needs help.

You can consider yourself an addict if you don't have self control when it comes to gambling, if you don't feel complete unless when you gamble that is a big sign that you are a complete gambling addict. If a gambler is broke and can do anything to raise money to gamble that is a huge sign and after they lose everything they will be looking for more money. If you want to gamble responsibly you must use amount that you can afford to loose and when the amount is finished you must not refill your account to continue, it takes a lot of discipline to avoid addiction.

Your friend is already an addict if that is the case, because such a percentage shows how far he can go just to gamble, which is very dangerous, and that alone could mean a lot to his addiction to gambling.

Maybe you should give him orientation on what it means to be a responsible gambler because from the looks, he has no knowledge what it means to be an addicted gambler not to talk of principles on gambling that could guide him through while gambling.

To be frank 30 to 50 percent is way too high for a gambler to spend every gambling hour, it just shows the leve of addiction to which the gambler has attained which is very difficult to reverse because at that stage, his addiction is at the peak.

A friend of mine was in an argument with me about when someone should consider himself as an addict, I said if anyone is losing 30 percent or more of his monthly income on gambling, that he is an addict but my friend said no.

He is not affected by gambling but I do not like the way he is losing money on gambling but he said he is not using more than 50% of his monthly salary to gamble and my mouth was wide opened when I heard it.
When we like doing something and get pleasure from doing it constantly, then we should understand that it is an addiction. Addiction can be positive and negative. Someone takes their studies seriously and wants to do something good and they cannot live well without it. On the other hand, someone is addicted to gambling and does not realize that they are addicted. There is a saying that a madman never wants to recognize himself as a madman, that is how things are. According to your friend, he is not serious about life. When he said that he is no longer spending 50% of his monthly salary, his indifference and addiction are revealed here. In my opinion, your friend should be serious about life, 50% but an amount that will improve his position if he does something good or does something else, or if he plays gambling carefully, the experience will increase.

He might not be addicted like he said but spending up to 50% of your monthly income on gambling is not proper, unless he is actually earning a huge amount of money whereby the remaining 50% is big enough to serve all his other needs and then he'll still be left with money to invest in an asset, just saying tho but it's very improper, at least one should not spend more than even up to or more 20% of their income on gambling because there are more important things to do with money than just spending a whooping 50% on gambling meanwhile you are not getting back as much as you spend on gambling.

There are several conditions in this case. But one of them is indeed as you said, OP. Because in my opinion, using around 30% of your total income is a very large amount. However, I think that is only a sign of mild addiction. Severe addiction is when you find it difficult to stop even after spending all the money you have set aside to meet your monthly living expenses. And usually, they can spend even more than that. The bottom line is that their personal and economic lives will begin to be disrupted because of this.

I consider him addicted to gambling; it's hard to make money, and 30% is a significant percentage of his salary just to lose in gambling. If he has a family to support, her wife will not be happy losing that huge percentage.
30% of your salary is too much money being wasted on gambling; his focus is only on gambling, even if he is comfortable losing that amount, he is still classified as addicted to gambling. No responsible gambler will take a significant percentage to gamble.

You might consider yourself addicted when you constantly think about gambling and always feel the need to play every day, and the money used has exceeded what you can afford.
Spending 30% of your income on gambling is already too much, and even up to 50%, regardless of your income, because if your income is small, you might have to sacrifice something, and if your income is big, you will tend to gamble more frequently.
So the percentage set for gambling might also indicate whether he is an addict or not.

To me, addiction becomes evident when a person makes gambling a priority, no longer goes out with family, gambles with money meant for bills or rent, borrows money to gamble and ends up in debt. They start selling their possessions to satisfy their gambling needs; in short, they are someone who has lost their common sense and self-control.

If I start spending more money on gambling, it would definitely be a sign that I am beginning to get addicted. The same goes for spending more time gambling. If I am not financially strong enough, even slightly increasing the budget for gambling could already cause me financial problems. If either I or you start prioritizing funding gambling over our needs, that is also a sign that we are beginning to be addicted to gambling.

A 30–50% cut from your salary going to gambling is already a big amount, but I still wouldn’t say that’s an addiction yet. I’d only say you have an addiction when you’re already gambling every day, or when you’re putting almost your entire salary into gambling and not leaving anything from your wages.

Then you start neglecting your important personal expenses and you even end up in debt because of your gambling. And finally, you often become greedy, which becomes the reason you
keep on pushing yourself to gamble and gamble.

Spending 30% of your monthly income is already in the danger zone. Imagine spending 30% of your 100% monthly income on gambling, which is a non-essential expense, and the remaining 70% on survival.

So, I think your friend is quite addicted. But from another perspective, I simply believe someone can be categorized as an addict when they have an excessive focus on winning, and their spending is definitely beyond the limit. When someone is so focused on winning, their actions and decisions inevitably become excessive.

You can consider yourself a gambling addict when betting starts to control you instead of the other way around. This includes gambling more money or time than you planned, chasing losses, lying about it or feeling anxious or irritated when you try to stop.

If gambling is hurting your finances, relationships, work or mental health and you still keep doing it that’s a strong sign of addiction.

In my estimation, waiting until you lose 30% of one's monthly income is already the later symptoms of gambling addiction. Start with the number of hours that you spend gambling even way above the time you said you will spend gambling. Is it hard to stop? If yes, that is a cue. Secondly, think about how often you spend ruminating about gambling when you are engaged in another activity. Does it affect the quality of your work and you can't wait to begin gambling? Yeah, that is another cue for gambling. It is the small parts that make up the whole and that is where you can judge yourself on being an addict.

I don't think that the money spent on gambling is what should be use to judge if someone is an addict or not. I be a person should be considered an addict when it is obvious that the person can't go a day or two without gambling. A gambler can lose 100% of his salary in a day and wait another 30 days to be paid before he can gamble. Such gambler have self control because unless his salary comes he won't gamble. But someone who's addicted will look for any means possible to raise money to gamble.

You should consider yourself an addict, the moment you cannot do without gambling. If you haven't gamble in  the day you wouldn't be satisfied. However, if you start gambling for profit, you can also be considered an addict because it must lead to addiction since most of the addicted gamblers were playing for profit and continue to chase their losses.

When you start borrowing money to gamble, you are already addicted. Don't gamble when you don't have money and stop gambling after you have reached your limit. You are to only use your part of your discretionary money to gamble. Addicts don't accept that they're addicted. That's the trick.

Some people don't know this, anything that they can't do away with in a day, they are addicted to it. They thought it was the money spent on that that made them addicted. They don't know that whatever takes up their whole day, they are caught up in its addiction that they no longer have control over.

Gambling as we know it, chasing after profits and losses is the order of the day as most gamblers do that. Which makes them lose the grip on how they should be in charge of how they gamble in a day, without losing much money, they didn't bargain.

That's why I use time or loss limits during gaming periods, such as the evenings I play. This helps me quickly exit the game and avoid feeling completely dependent on it; even then, I understand my decisions and take the necessary actions. In any case, making excuses to stay in the game can have a negative impact on us, because these relaxations will only escalate, and we simply won't have any rules for ourselves. Without them, we can very quickly lose our deposit. It's better to know this in advance and be prepared for it than to follow the path that many players have taken.

He has different percentages than you and thinks that he is not addicted. But addicted people to gambling will not realize if they are addicted even if they think that they only use a little money. Not using more than 50% of his salary will be okay if that is the amount he can afford to lose. Some of us don't want to lose much money so we use a small percentage and only gamble occasionally. It is clear that we determine for ourselves how much money we will use to gamble and that will differ from others. At least, he can manage his funds and not have a problem with it.

Most people don't realize they are addicted to gambling and even if they are told, they tend to deny it because they still don't realize it.

Now, when someone sees gambling as a job and not what it is, that's a sign of addiction disguised as a form of income generation.

When someone takes gambling as a priority over every other thing (family, friends, and other external factors), that is another form of addiction.

When someone does not consider the amount of money he puts into gambling compared to what he/she earns, that's addiction right there.

It could come in different form that most people don't realize, so it should be advised to take gambling for what it is and not a necessity.
