He is not affected by gambling but I do not like the way he is losing money on gambling but he said he is not using more than 50% of his monthly salary to gamble and my mouth was wide opened when I heard it.
If your salary is monthly basis, then I do urge for only 1-10 percent of their monthly income to gamble. Anyone who is using above 10 percent monthly income to gamble doesn't have a savings, watch them very well they usually ends up in the gambling house because they can't really give an account of how their money are being spent. Usually, the reason why people advocate for 1 percent or 10 percent is that you can used the 90 percent to plan yourselves very well and also make some savings after one might have removed investment. However, to easily notice a gambling addiction is when they would do all thing to borrow to gamble if they don't have money with them.

I believe someone is an addict of they lose money to the casino then their gambling budget, and if they do it consistently.
I mean, someone can lose money to a casino and that does not mean such person is addicted to anything, addiction comes in when one does not realize all the accumulated loss and when one gets desensitized to losses, to the point those losses start to negatively affect one's life.
Anyways... Losing up to thirty percent of one's income could be considered a sign of addiction, but would not be an ultimate symptom, in my opinion.

As soon as you start gambling unlike a normal gambler would do, use what you're not supposed to use for gambling to gamble and use a certain amount of money that is basically going to uncomfort you and others without your own knowledge that you are becoming uncomfortable with the gambling activities. infact once you can notice that someone can not point out when they are being addicted or they lack self knowledge of their actions then they are already addicts in my opinion

Spending 30 or even 50% of the earnings can be considered as reckless, but when the person realizes that he is spending more money than he should and he tries stopping it but he just can't break his habit that is why we can consider him as an addict.
You don’t even have to spend 30% of your income to be considered as someone who is addicted to gambling, anyways, I think if someone decides to be gambling all the time, and not doing anything, all you do is gambling and wasting money for no reason, sometimes there are some bad habits that you can’t really control and when it get to something that you can’t control at that particular moment then it has become a bad habits, I think becoming an addict in gambling is very bad and a grate danger, because if someone gets to the situation of being addicted to gambling then that individual is absolutely finished.

That is hard point to argue, yet truth is that gambling addiction is not decided by percentage of money lost but loss of control and bad effect on life. Although your friend is not bothered by loss of half of his monthly salary, such loss is extreme money risk that leads to worry and debt, and behavior is already hard to stop. Real signs of addiction, as experts suggest, are need to gamble more to get excited, saying no of problem, breaking of relationships such as your concern shows, and cannot stop despite losses. Thus, loss of 50 percent is huge warning sign that shows that he is already not in charge of behavior, although he is not broke yet.

"When should you consider yourself an addict" - I believe that an addicted gambler will under no circumstances (except in severe and advanced cases in the later stages, when final and irreversible financial and reputational losses have already occurred) admit to being addicted to gambling. A friend of mine was in an argument with me about when someone should consider himself as an addict, I said if anyone is losing 30 percent or more of his monthly income on gambling, that he is an addict but my friend said no.
I wouldn't judge this solely by financial losses; I'd also consider how much time \ hours per day \ month the gambler spends gambling. If gambling consumes the lion's share of their time, that's also a sign of addiction, as the person is overly preoccupied with it, (if) to the detriment of other aspects of their normal life. He is not affected by gambling but I do not like the way he is losing money on gambling but he said he is not using more than 50% of his monthly salary to gamble and my mouth was wide opened when I heard it.
He spends no more than 50% of his monthly salary? Then it's trifle, he's perfectly healthy.

You are an addiction if you can't control yourself. For example, you feel like you have to gamble every single day and anyway you do not feels like hell. Even when you are broke you don't mind using the last of your funds or even to borrow just so you can gamble. That is an addiction

gambling is a dangerous addiction. at first people play it just for fun. slowly when emotions get involved people become addicted to it. and once someone is addicted it becomes hard to get out of it whether it is gambling or drugs. especially when a person becomes deeply addicted to gambling he can do all kinds of bad things. most people who get addicted to gambling lose everything. when they do not have money to play they start getting involved in robbery extortion and other crimes. so if you gamble only for fun there is no problem. but if addiction starts you should step away from it. otherwise gambling can lead a person toward death. that is why it is better to be careful from the beginning.

Doesn't he have family needs and/or personal needs? If he has mapped out 50% of his salary to gambling, how many percente dies he give to needs, I mean basic needs, family, emergency, savings or investment, and probably business if he has any? If this his allotment of 50% of his income is on regular basis, then I think he is already an addict, maybe he has not known it yet, offcourse, no addict would accept it openly that they are in that category.

An addicted gambler is broadly spelt out in so many different ways, it could be loosing some percentage of income or it would be uncontrollable activities but regardless addiction happens without us knowing we are addicted. Si one should really consider themselves an addict when they experience some unusual habits of theirs going overboard. For example when your drinking and with time it becomes a daily routine of yours it's considered that you're addicted to it, that's how it all started.

To determine the criteria for addicted gamblers, consider whether the impact of gambling is causing any harm to your normal activities, rather than considering the percentage of monthly income. I think that those gamblers are at the addicted stage who are unable to maintain the normal process of alternative income and are in a financially unstable situation. Those addicted gamblers are not responsible for their families and gradually become isolated from society. Those addicted gamblers do not gamble solely on their source of income they use up their reserve funds and lose money due to their addiction.

Using 50% or more will not make someone addicted to gambling if they can take care of themselves better than others. He knows how to prevents the addiction and control himself. The thing that we need is always to use limitations in gambling and always realize that gambling is for fun.
If he is not affected by gambling, that is good even though he uses not more than 50%. That is just a percentage we set to avoid exceeding our limitations. If you use no more than 30%, that is better for you since that is your limit. There is no point in arguing over the percentage, since we have different gambling allocations.

The willingness to use 50% of your income to gamble with feels off to me, can't you do anything else for fun? Why do you have to spend half of what you have in gambling and still not consider yourself a gambling addict, regardless of how much a person is making there is no reason for them to gamble away that much unless they are too dependent on it and that is addiction so anyone who would be willing to do that is addicted to gambling and shouldn't be trying to tell you otherwise, we should really try to call a spade a spade.

As long as we can still control ourselves in betting, of course addiction will not cover us, even though we have large capital, self-control is very important so that we are not influenced by big lures, because someone's addiction is due to them expecting too much to win, if we can control ourselves 50% I think it's too much but for 30% I think it's possible because it entertains our saturated minds, and we have to know that it all depends on each of us so as you said the percentage will not have a big effect on someone.

He is not affected by gambling but I do not like the way he is losing money on gambling but he said he is not using more than 50% of his monthly salary to gamble and my mouth was wide opened when I heard it.
A big reason for that friend's mistake is that he is keeping 50% for betting which is not acceptable in any way. Maybe a person's income is very high and he can meet all the expenses of his family with 50% but not everyone has such ability that using 50% is not acceptable in any way. In the case of most gamblers, it is not possible to meet all the expenses of the family with 50% of his income and if someone spends this amount of money then he is definitely addicted to gambling.

Gambling is actually what is very debatable when it comes to the amount you will want to risk of your total income. A person may earn so well that after using 50% of their monthly income, they still have enough to cover for their other expenses including on emergency situations and still not feel destabilized financially.
So cutting your monthly spending on your gambling activities depends on how much you earn and how much can cater for your other expenses and not feel burdened when issues arises to sought out. Risk what you can afford to lose in gambling, so if your friend can risk that much and not feel uncomfortable, I won’t call him an addict, he’s just risking what he can afford to lose even though it is more than 50% of his salary.

I do not agree to this at all, if someone is able to pay for all expenses and also have money for emergency reasons, the person should still not use 50% of his salary to gamble. Money should not be wasted on gambling but it is good to plan for future also. So cutting your monthly spending on your gambling activities depends on how much you earn and how much can cater for your other expenses and not feel burdened when issues arises to sought out. I agree with this but the money for gambling should not be more than 5% of someone's salary.

A friend of mine was in an argument with me about when someone should consider himself as an addict, I said if anyone is losing 30 percent or more of his monthly income on gambling, that he is an addict but my friend said no.
He is not affected by gambling but I do not like the way he is losing money on gambling but he said he is not using more than 50% of his monthly salary to gamble and my mouth was wide opened when I heard it.
When you can't do a day without gambling you are gratually moving towards the part way of gambling addiction and the craziest part of it is that it Will blindfold you so you wouldn't acknowledge what you are doing is bad till it leaves you empty and frustrated before you will realize. In my opinion I don't think it is best gambling more than ten percent of your income or at least the maximum amount should be twenty percent if you must go a little bit high, but what should be ensured is to go with what you can let go to avoid regrets and blames.

For me 30% is even too much to allocate to gambling, like would the remaining 70% be enough for your expenses, savings and floating cash? If I spend up to 5% of my monthly earnings on gambling, it's already a lot and I'll have to suspend gambling for the rest of the month because I'm already gambling above my budget and it's not a good discipline.

It is not clear why a medical diagnosis should be made depending on the percentage of gambling expenses. These are not interdependent phenomena at all. Maybe a person earns enough money to not lower his standard of living in any way, even if he simply loses 50% of his income in gambling. There are addicted gamblers who lose tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, and there are also addicted gamblers who lose 10 or 100 dollars. Both are addicted to gambling. For both, it may be as little as 5% of their income.
