I believe someone is an addict of they lose money to the casino then their gambling budget, and if they do it consistently.

I mean, someone can lose money to a casino and that does not mean such person is addicted to anything, addiction comes in when one does not realize all the accumulated loss and when one gets desensitized to losses, to the point those losses start to negatively affect one's life.

Anyways... Losing up to thirty percent of one's income could be considered a sign of addiction, but would not be an ultimate symptom, in my opinion.
I am struck by your statement that when losses occur, they have a negative impact on themselves or their lives. For example, the loss causes them to return to gambling, using money that is actually intended for other purposes, such as meeting their needs, using their savings, or taking out loans to gamble. This clearly causes them to lose money, and it is because of the losses incurred from previous gambling.

Additionally, I believe someone is considered addicted when they cannot accept defeat, as this likely leads to continued gambling. Gambling is no longer for enjoyment but rather for pursuing uncertain wins.

A friend of mine was in an argument with me about when someone should consider himself as an addict, I said if anyone is losing 30 percent or more of his monthly income on gambling, that he is an addict but my friend said no.

He is not affected by gambling but I do not like the way he is losing money on gambling but he said he is not using more than 50% of his monthly salary to gamble and my mouth was wide opened when I heard it.

What! Wow, he is an addict for real, like that's too much, well if he is making profit then it's ok, we can say it's an investment, but if he is losing more that's really really bad.
Although being an addict is not if u loose or not, is when u have an uncontrollable urge and obsession towards it, then ur an addict and u need help

When we talk about gambling addiction, it simply refers to the act of an individual not been able to stay without having the urge to gamble, not minding either if he has money or not to gamble with. And when an individual is addicted, it is always visibly noticeable, and can't be hidden, as another means through which an individual can be said to be addicted or not is by how much he/she spend on gambling alone from his initial salary. Because of a user has an uncontrollable urge towards gambling to the point he spends like 30% to 50% of his income on gambling alone, then he or she can be tagged an addict.

I will say anyone that is spending more than 30 to 50% of his income on gambling can be seen as an addict. In fact, such person is just an addict, but it is worth knowing that addiction is even more than that. Anyone that is addicted to gambling will likely spend all his money on gambling every time until he is broke. That is the reason you will see many addicts spend all their weekly or monthly income on gambling and still prefer to borrow money to satisfy his urge, thinking he is going to make money from gambling from the money he borrowed but he will lose the borrowed money also until he will be calm. The same will repeat itself again after receiving the next weekly or monthly income.

A person will never give an answer when he considered himself to be addicted to gambling, because addicted gambler are «blind» and never see problem from their frequent gambling. As well as a person will never confess or admit that he is addicted. He will always say that he has everything under control. From that point, if a person gambles often and say that he has everything under control, I think that is the stage when addicted has started or is about to start.

You are right, people sometimes misunderstood what is really addiction and losing money, losing is normal in gambling and it is something that is waiting for anyone who has signed up to gamble but addiction is when someone has mastered the act of gambling almost all the time even when they are making loss they won't stop but continue gambling that is making it a habit or normal routine and it is an act someone should not indulge in because of the consequences. Gambling should be done only when you want to and not when you are not suppose to but you still can help it.

Right. I've seen many gamblers addicted to gambling actually lose their thinking power, but even then they never admit that they are addicted to gambling. As long as they have money, they can gamble in silence until they lose all their money. Because gambling addicts don't admit they are in a bad situation, they actually go from bad to worse. Therefore, if someone is addicted to gambling, they should share their situation with their family members and friends so that they can take timely measures to address their addiction.

The same will repeat itself again after receiving the next weekly or monthly income.
What I can say is that addiction has different levels, when a gambler uses up to 30% to 50% of his income to gamble it is very dangerous if he has enomouus family responsibilities. Anything above half of an addicts income on gambling is a full blown addiction and such an addict needs urgent help. It shows that if the addict wins huge amount he will use all of it to continue gambling till there's nothing left. It is best not to use more than five percent of your income atmost to gamble so that you will have enough to take care of your needs. Gamble with amount that you can afford to loose that is the best advice if you want to be a responsible gambler.

One way to know if you are getting overly addicted to gambling is when you start spending lots of hours and money, if you are the type thatonly gambles for a few minutes but later on starts gambling for hours that is a sign that you are addicted to gambling...people who gamble for fun don't spend the most part of their day gambling because they would be too busy doing more important things

If he has no other expenses and he could afford to spend his salary of more than 50% to gambling them just do it but if he has other obligations especially when he has a family and he does not take responsibility on it then he might be addicted to gambling.

It's pretty obvious if one is an addict because of the possibilities that he forgets and neglects special stuff and focuses more on gambling instead of other things.

It also depends on how much his salary is. If someone who receives $1000 is gambling with $500, there's every possibility that he will be addicted because the more you gamble, the closer you get to addiction. Financial management is very important in our lives so that, we don't give our priorities to less important things.

A friend of mine was in an argument with me about when someone should consider himself as an addict, I said if anyone is losing 30 percent or more of his monthly income on gambling, that he is an addict but my friend said no.

He is not affected by gambling but I do not like the way he is losing money on gambling but he said he is not using more than 50% of his monthly salary to gamble and my mouth was wide opened when I heard it.
you can call it addiction when a person chooses wrong or harmful ways just to gamble. gambling is a deadly addiction. at the beginning everyone plays it for fun. but with time the addiction keeps growing. when someone wins in gambling their greed increases even more. if you spend 30 or 50 percent of your salary on gambling that is not addiction yet because you are still controlling yourself. but when a person cannot stop himself from gambling no matter what then that is addiction. you will notice one thing people who are addicted to gambling if they do not have money to play they will sell whatever they can find and gamble with it. i have seen this myself. one of my brothers lost in gambling and when he could not get money he used to hit his wife. if he did not get money he would steal or do robbery. when someone does these things for gambling it means he is fully addicted. if you can stay away from gambling. the end result for a gambler is terrifying.

Some gamblers start to gamble only few minutes but as time goes on they begin to gamble excessively and also take long while they are gambling. Another way to know that you are becoming addicted to gamble is when you are spending too much money on gamble, at very point it is good to gamble with what you can afford to lose. When you know you are spending a lot of money on gambling, you should seek for help immediately so that you will know how to start gambling responsibly.

If a person neglects his important responsibilities and spends half or more of his salary on gambling, then this is definitely a big sign of his gambling addiction. Because a responsible person puts his family and his own needs first. But if he does not do that and chooses gambling, it means that he has lost control over himself. Then he cannot think clearly about what is important and what is wasteful. A person addicted to gambling ignores all the important things in life and only thinks about how to make money from gambling. Gambling is for fun, and if a person spends half or more of his income on gambling, it will definitely affect his life negatively.

If gambling is done with large amount, we can consider it as an addiction because if we ask the question why he is gambling with so much money, it is easy to get the answer to addiction, but it must be consistent. If someone gambles occasionally and uses a lot of money while gambling, then it cannot be called an addiction because he does not do it regularly. But if someone regularly spends 30% to 50% of his income, then it is never as usual. In very simple terms, I would say that when we gamble beyond our control, it is an addiction. If someone tries to gamble differently from normal gambling behavior, then it will go to the stage of addiction.

That can be a sign that a person is already an addicted gambler. When he's spending more money to it than the obligations and bills that he has to pay.

If he's not making more than what he's gambling, he need to change that habit or else it's going to be a bad result for him.

Many were not able to recover quickly when they have went through with the same situation of spending more hours and money in gambling and they were even denying that they were addicted.

Indication that the control is no longer in your possession and once that spark dominates then even how a gambler denied the fact it will reveal itself, similar to both f you said, if the person already spend more time and more which is no longer usual or normal to what they originally sets for their gambling activities.

That indicates that the person already suffering to addiction and needed to stop or else it will be a big issue in the long run.

When he returns to gambling despite losing repeatedly and wastes time on gambling, neglecting his important tasks. Then he is called an addicted gambler. Those who gamble just for fun do not give much importance to gambling. They complete all their important tasks and then gamble in their free time. So it can be directly said that those who think seriously about gambling are addicted gamblers, where how much money they are using or losing is not the main issue.

If a person has a small amount of I, then 30 to 50% of his income is very small, that is, if 100% of his income were taken, the basic needs of his family would be met, in which case we can say that the discretionary income of low-income people is very small. But if a person with a large income has more than 50% of his income as discretionary income, if he uses it for gambling, he will face less loss than a low-income person because he will have enough money to run his family. Addiction is not only considered on the issue of spending I of a person, how much time a person spends on gambling and whether he is able to control himself in gambling, these factors can be considered to determine whether a person is addicted. If a person has money or not, if that person becomes desperate to gamble, then we can assume that the person is addicted to gambling, then he will indulge in various types of criminal activities to earn money for gambling.

You should be really worried when you finally realize that your life has been revolving more often, around a certain hobby or activity. A single hobby or activity should not be leading our lives and when an activity is beginning to have a greater say above everything else in your life, then you're likely already hooked or on the road towards addiction.
While losing out on 30% of your income to gambling is a bit much, I wouldn't say it's a sure sign of a gambling addiction. It's nice and all that you're looking out for a friend, but like you noted yourself, he isn't affected by gambling.
