It was shutdown and licensed where halted due to the incident. Although the shutdown is temporary, due to some reasons and the resort is now rebranded.

What does halted mean? Can other casinos with the same brand not run their business normally? From what I read, it seems like the license is related to the hotel itself, not limited to the casino only[1] if we're referring to the same issue. The attacker was also a problem gambler with huge debt. I guess that also added fuel to the fire. It's impressive that the hotel managed to rebrand and operate again, though. I guess the "security lapses" aren't as simple as the hotel ignoring every security measure.

Their license was temporarily suspended by PAGCOR so its not related to the hotel's operation as PAGCOR is PH casino industry regulator or simply means casino license provider, then was rebranded.

And yes the suspects seems like that, can't really remember since it's almost a decade already hearing that news, but upon reading some news, it looks like the suspect has gambling addiction as the primary reason for his attack the sole motivation to rob the casino.

This happens, unfortunately casinos are still fertile ground for illegal activities such as money laundering, extortion, and even drug trafficking. In Brazil, we had gambling houses, called bingo halls, similar to casinos, and there was a lot of money laundering; not all of them, but there's always a bad apple in the basket. This was one of the factors that led to their prohibition…

If it's for a case of the casino or part of the brand being used for illegal activities which the country frowns upon, shutting it down will be a good one, but it will be hurting the innocent ones legitimately operating without any form of illegal activities, as they get affected the most.

I have not experienced or read about a physical casino that has shut down for illegal activities other than maybe they went out of business due to competition, low patronage or government regulation. But it would be interesting to read from others the casinos that have shut down because of this. One other thing I know about physical casinos is that they easily change management, especially during rocky times. So instead of complete shutdown, they sell to a new management and change name.

That's why gambling is one of the most unstable pathway to make income.Imagine the risks faced by some individuals gamblers who put their livelihood on it when casinos gets shutdown unexpectedly.Mosts times,when trust, transparency and regulatory policies are violated shutting down becomes the best option.

I have not experienced that from a physical casino here, because all casinos are highly regulated. There might be some underground casinos, but they won't advertise or get big, nor they get in news for being busted. So either they are well hidden or there aren't any.

One web casino that exit scammed, after i had left it already, so illegality was clear in hindsight:

That's right mate, I'm sure that there are also some casinos that are being used for money laundry  but the unfortunate things there is that those casinos are being short down immediately the government discovers it, just the way they normally do to most of the mixers. This is also the reasons why the governments wants all the casinos to be regulated so that they can monitor them and yo also tax them.

That's right mate, I'm sure that there are also some casinos that are being used for money laundry  but the unfortunate things there is that those casinos are being short down immediately the government discovers it, just the way they normally do to most of the mixers. Casinos and exchanges are not treated the same way as mixers; mixers don't need to be found guilty of laundering money before they shut them down, they just need to discover how because it's already painted as a dark tool. Recently, KuCoin and another exchange were discovered to have been used to launder millions of dollars, not billions, but they are still in operation. The same thing will happen with casinos if they just have the right contact.
