Hello,

I am creating this thread regarding my friend @Becassine.

Her forum account link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1224889

I noticed she was last active was on October 8, 2025. I contacted her outside the forum and learned from her that she tried to log in to the forum but she was unable to access the forum and suspects her account may have been hacked.

According to bpip, her password was reset three times using the security question, which has naturally locked her account.. Therefore, she contacted the locked-account support email for manual review and signed a message using her Bitcoin wallet address: bc1qvlq0hdy3gkq2nqy92rvppxwjh6tv9nzvtuqffq. So far, she is still waiting.

I kindly request our staff or moderators to provide her with urgent assistance and complete the manual review as soon as possible so that she can regain access her account. We miss a member who had a big impact on creating the forum’s amazing contests.

This is very bad, from all you have said the account was actually hacked but the hackers couldn't get total control of the account because they don't have the email because to successfully change your account password easily you need to login or access the email address used on that account if you can't access the email it will be difficult or even impossible for you to change the password.
When you click on forgotten it will show this write up " You can't retrieve your password, but you can set a new one by following a link sent to you by email. You also have the option of setting a new password by answering your secret question." meaning you can only change your password by following a link sent to the email on that account so if you don't have access to the email you can't change the password, the other option asking you secret questions I have tried it before and is not working I don't think that option functions.

I pray everything goes smoothly so Becassine can get her account back, please any moderator or staff that's sees this thread should help immediately.

That's really a pain. The secret question is really easy to implement and anybody can do it to a random account.
I still don't know why it's still there.


Wouldn't it had been better if she created the thread herself or am missing something.

She is clearly busy these days with some matters, so I volunteered to create this thread on her behalf and sent her the link so she could review it.

As I mentioned, I created it simply to expedite the manual review process that will be conducted through the primary email of her account.

Therefore, I hope they respond to her via email quickly and review the signed message she provided using Electrum.

A few weeks ago, we (people in the french section) realized that Becassine's account had been banned.

So far, she is still waiting.

Do you know when she contacted the recovery team ? From memory, it took about 15 days to get a reply, but it may take longer now.


It's a shame she didn't react sooner, she could have noticed anomalies in her IP addresses. The most important thing is that she makes sure she has cleaned her PC, because she could lose much more than a forum account.

I will be happy to help, but I don't have much influence over the recovery team.

Well that's sad. Well fastest way to fix it is for her to create an alt account to follow up the entire process once she's ready to reclaim ownership of the account. I can remember when ambatman had a similar issue and back then I think his account wasn't even grown I think still at full membership when it happened.

I believe the admins will respond promptly because of the reputation of the account.

I am creating this thread regarding my friend @Becassine.
I talked with Becassine few times and I am sorry to hear this, but you should tell her to create new bitcointalk account and ask for account recovery herself.
It would help a lot if she owns the keys of bitcoin addresses posted in forum before her account was hijacked.
I don't see any account activity since August 06, and only suspicious thing I noticed is password reset via secret question.

No it doesn't especially after the 2015 hack. So I still don't understand why the option is still there
Even if you guessed it correctly your account is still locked
And many people are not really aware of this feature.

This is a Public Service Announcement:

If you lose your password, DO NOT USE THE SECRET QUESTION TO RECOVER THE ACCOUNT. It will result in your account being locked. Please use the email recovery option to recover the account.
The reason that the accounts are locked is because the May 2015 hack leaked Bitcointalk's database which did not securely secure the Secret Question and Answer. To prevent people from guessing the answers
As was Announced by Achow, It doesn't really change anything.

About 17 days ago.. She told that she had gotten a first response, the first or second day I think, (If it was not an automatic reply) must ask her about that!

At first sight, she just tried to reset the password via security question and then got account locked!! (Hope it is just that)  Undecided  N' that's believing the security reports, as an attacker should have changed the password what should have been showed on the Sec Logs!  Or no ? Huh

I guess that's, when he account got locked. Sometimes the recoveries tends to delay which such issue. I don't know why but we hope they help out the member as soon as they can.

I also don't understand why they just can't completely do away with the secret question thingy. I mean, we now have 2FA that serves a much better purpose.

I tagged her account with a preventive negative trust referencing OP's first post. This might be a bit over-doing it as there's no public evidence that Becassine's account has been abused for malicious profit. Currently, last post from Becassine is from 2025-08-06.

I will of course remove the negative trust when Becassine provides me solid evidence that she regained control over her account again. A signed Bitcoin message from her staked public address is all I need, either in a public post or PM.

Did Becassine not use 2FA to additionally secure her account? (Yes, only she can answer this.) If you can use 2FA, then just use it and don't procrastinate to set it up.

Well, perhaps this is a precautionary measure for the other members until she regains access to her account. Well done.

She actually told me previously that she forgot to enable 2FA, which is a big mistake, but once she recovers her account, she will certainly activate it to add an extra layer of protection for her forum account.

Wouldn't it had been better if she created the thread herself or am missing something.
She is clearly busy these days with some matters, so I volunteered to create this thread on her behalf and sent her the link so she could review it.

As I mentioned, I created it simply to expedite the manual review process that will be conducted through the primary email of her account.

Therefore, I hope they respond to her via email quickly and review the signed message she provided using Electrum.

I pray everything goes smoothly so Becassine can get her account back, please any moderator or staff that's sees this thread should help immediately.

Looks like the recovery is on the right track now. Bit slow, but that’s pretty normal with manual reviews and old accounts

I just have had one question on my mind, to those who may be aware, or knows the answer to! How long on average does it take to recover an account? Normally.... And does the recovery team intentionally delays this process? I mean like just to make sure! It's been nearly a week since OP posted this and some of you are speculating it may be done before Christmas.

It would be a nice present. I must say that I was very very slow to follow/understand the instructions.

I am fortunate to have access to a personalized forum hotline with Albon and Danydee. We really should consider adding awards for patience and giving them to these individuals (as well as Paid2, who has helped me a lot on other occasions). I don't fully understand how Electrum works, but I followed the instructions. I guess I signed several messages without realizing that it was okay. Anyway, thank you Albon et Dany for your incredible patience.

And thank you also to the team for their vigilance. If I get my account back, I'll activate 2FA, I promise.

PS : I asked Grok how you could verify, it's ok I understood, I will sent another signed message to the team with my mail.
