Here's my take on this, the holidays should be special, some of us work through out the year and we only spend time with our family during times like this..saving money is pointless because if you can use it to give your family a nice treat even for once in a year then what's the point of having those monies..Mind you this doesn't mean you should spend carelessly, also keep some incase of emergencies

The holiday season is the time to show love and this is a period where all the money you've been working for throughout the year, you could actually spend some making your loved ones and your family members happy and comfortable. I know that there must be people who worked really hard for their money and that makes spending the money even harder, and they may be forced into thinking that expenses during the festive season like this is really a waste of money even on family members, but I don't think so because you only get to live once and these experiences count.

Why not both? Save and spend, just intentionally. Set aside a fixed holiday budget and don’t touch more than that. Good food and meaningful gifts don’t need to be costly. Financial stability brings long term happiness, but shared moments keep families close. Balance wins, imo.

How long will you save that money and not spend it on yourself? You can not be investing all your money every years and not use part of it to foot your vacation and spend on yourself. Billionaires are doing this and you should not see it as a waste of money. The money you are investing so that you can double it time many times is not supposed to be in that bank doing nothing, you have to take care of yourself, your need and get a better lifestyle that will make you like the kind of live you are living.

As somebody who's family-oriented, I will always pick "spending money and cook good food and give gifts".

It's only one time in a single year, and there might be some who are preferring the first one, and that's fine because we all have different reasons as to why we want to save, and we want to spend. TBH, I've used a portion of my Bitcoin holdings to spend our holidays and travel, and of course we converted it into our own fiat currency, but the point is, spending at least once a year is good mentally, and at the same time, you will have a time to spend with your family as well.

Saving is fine, but saving, saving and saving alone isn't a good idea. What's the main reason we are saving? If it's for the future then that might be understandable, but if not then save, for the same of spending it at some point and on this one, it's the holidays. Holidays are there for us to celebrate with other people.

The holidays this includes the Christmas and new year festivities right? but there is no need to overthinking about this when you only get to so it once in a year. if all the money you have been saving during the year is not eough to get things done at the end. Not many people think that during holidays we should focus on saving money. Instead, most people save money before the holidays and then spend it when the holidays arrive. In my place, when the holidays come, we usually cook special meals and enjoy food together. At the same time, I often see merchants offering discounts for a limited time, which makes spending even more tempting.

However, saving money doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the holidays at all. If you’re planning to save, it’s still good to set aside a small amount to buy something meaningful. It doesn’t have to be expensive sometimes a simple gift, a shared meal, or a small experience can bring just as much happiness. Which of the holidays are you talking about? If it the Christmas Holiday, that should be a period of merriment and you have to spend all your savings in they holiday to have some leisure and be happy. And if you don't have you can still be happy with other.

I think it’s obvious OP is talking about Christmas. So if I understand you correctly, your version of a good Christmas is spending all your savings to have a good time? What happens after the holidays are over and you have bills to sort out in the new year. How do you feel knowing you blew all your savings on Christmas?

I don’t think anyone should have to spend all their savings to have a good Christmas. The spirit of Christmas is love and togetherness. Spending quality time with your family and making memories should be priority, you don’t need a lot of money to do that.

We have to work hard in life to get a decent life, one of which is from a large income, everyone definitely wants a large income to meet their needs and once in a while it's not wrong to celebrate yourself for the hard work that has been done whether it's a vacation alone or with family, and with vacation time of course not to save but it's a time to spend money and that's normal. I myself don't mind spending money on vacation myself or with my family because from there I can get happiness. Vacation itself, in my opinion, is one of the things that is quite important, because we need time to clear our minds and vacation is one of the options.

Life is too short to spend it only on chasing money. During this holiday, one can take out time to enjoy some memorable time with family and friends. I am a member of a tribe that travels a lot. This holiday is a time for relatives who are in other towns and countries will come back to our state of origin. Spending some amount on gifts, drinks, and others wouldn't harm my finances since I have budgeted for it.

I listened to a podcast of someone who has cared for dying people for more than a decade. And she said the most popualr regret these people had was workong to hard and not spending time to enjoy their lives.

Tbh I’d avoid going into debt for holidays. January regret is real. If money is tight, saving should come first. Anyone who truly cares will understand if things are simple this year.

If we are confused about that, then we can prepare everything from the beginning. We can set aside our money to save so that we can go on vacation. If we have that budget, then we will not be surprised when we have to spend money while on vacation because we have prepared everything.

It is called holiday because people get those days or receive those days to rest, visit friends and or have fun. So it is not actually times for work to get money for savings but you are to enjoy yourself and enjoying yourself requires to have good times, lavish yourself with the good things of life. It should be memorable days and such experience don't come without spending. If you go for a visit to see your nieces and nephews, you are expected to show them you love them and loving someone goes with acts of benevolence and gift giving or receiving. So holiday is not for being stingy to yourself nor to others but to have fun and enjoy yourself. That's why people go on vacation during holidays. You don't miss work with pleasure.

If you only plan a vacation once or twice a year, why bother saving or calculating the money?
Don't make life stingy for the pleasure of yourself and your loved ones. If you want to hear how I treat myself and my loved ones, I've always worked to make myself and them happy.

We work hard for 11 months to earn money, and only take a vacation once because it's a necessity. If you're still considering their happiness, it's outrageous.

Holiday is not recommended for me because it took big budget of money but me and my family have a tradition that during holiday we were not visiting to the particular places such as mountain or beach but all we have to do is visiting my local restaurant and eating together decent foods at there and going back to our house after that which i think this is simple activities to spend the time during the holiday and in my opinion holiday don't mean we have stopped to earn money even i have a plan to always be working during holiday and rather than spend money for holiday i think it's more good to used those money to accumulate my crypto assets especially currently is a bear market and this is good time to buy

Everything has to do with planning, I know surely this period we are into is a period of celebration because it's not easy to be alive right from january till this month of december being the last month of the year so definitely it comes for celebration thanksgiving and happiness. but while doing this things we need to plan ourselves very well because we can't be so excited to the extent of throwing away everything not knowing that after this month we are also entering into a new phase which is likely to be tough more especially during the first month January, so we ought to plan ourselves very well to avoid going through hard times when we finally enter into a new phase.

Whether we admit it or not, our holidays won't be that meaningful and joyful without spending some of our hard-earned money. So I don't tolerate those who's mantra is better to save than spend in holidays. This is the best time of the year so I don't see any reason why anyone will prefer to save than to spend if there's some good amount that can be allowed to spend.

However, taking a loan just to celebrate the holidays is also not good at all. Spend at your own risk, spend by sticking to your budget. You don't have to imitate other people if they spend too much, probably they also prepared long enough for it.

I don't remember exactly, but as far as I remember, almost every year during Christmas and New Year's, there were similar topics. Or topics such as using Bitcoin as Christmas gifts are also mentioned and discussed annually on our forum.

This time we are also into discussing family and money question. My answer would be doing everything possible to make family feel or live better. Saving money isn't a bad thing, but we need to save at the right time and in the right way. We shouldn't always use saving for the future as an excuse to avoid spending, especially during Christmas, a very big and important holiday. This is not just a tradition, but also a time for family members to gather, for everyone to show love and care for one another. These are moments that, even if we become wealthy later in life, we may find difficult to recapture. Therefore, spending is necessary, and I support this view.
