Really? I just checked my old messages, and I can see the ones from old, inactive members, including banned accounts, just fine.

Also what's going on with the new fourm. Is the guy still getting 50k a month?

The new forum's dead, been dead for a while before theymos finally pulled the plug on it a few months ago.

Have you checked if you did not delete the messages manually, or check if they have not moved into the next page as having many message both on the sent and receive can give you next page tabs which some don’t usually notice.

Unless some modification where made to the SMF if not it does not matter if sender or receiver have not been online for long the message will always be seating their until when it’s being opened by the receiver, and it still remains their unless the recipient decides to get it deleted.

If a recipient isn't online, personal messages wait in the member's PM box until the next time he/she logs in and reads and/or deletes them. SMF Personal Messages is a self-contained, highly private email system.

I just checked a PM from a user who was last online before your account was created, so it's safe to say your statement isn't correct.

I was skeptical when I saw this question, but I just checked your profile and noticed you are an old forum member who just came online. So however, here are the few changes that was made on the forum regarding the message features.

The forum messages now has three distinctive features (i.e New message, Inbox and Outbox) sub section on the message box, as shown at the top left corner of the message homepage. Whereby if you want to send message to any forum member, you click on the "New Message", while if you want to view all the messages that was sent to you from other forum members, you click on "Inbox" as shown in the image below, and all the messages that was sent to you will all be displayed there. Whereas if you want to view all the messages that was sent by you to other forum members, then you click on "Outbox", and all the messages you have ever sent from your account will all be displayed there.


NOTE: Please note, you can't find a message that was sent by you on the "Inbox" sub section, or neither the message that was sent to you on the "Outbox" page. So please take note. Because i'm 100% sure that might be the area why you are confused. So go check yours now and thank me later

Interesting, I've never seen that notice before, so I can't really comment on it.

It took me a while to find the official statement from admin, but you can view it here: No Longer Pursuing Epochtalk.

Many tens of thousands of BTC were (reportedly) wasted on this software that is not functional as of now.

You can not get PMs and even replies to your account if you don't log in your account. It is very basic privacy protection and there is policy written in Retention/ privacy info.

There are different necessary time for deletion of your PMs from data base and it partially depends on your account settings. You can customize your account settings if you want, while there are things you can not change as the forum is US-based and has to obey laws there.

Like I said, I don't see a limitation on "PMs of people that haven't logged in for a while".

You should have started with this screenshot. So it's based on both users being offline for a while.

Like I know I am still accessing the old messages sent to me right from day one.. maybe you are wanting to say for those profiles that are already been banned, and of course any account that is being banned can't have access to send pm and even perform some task here on the forum, this people may not have access to their pm and inbox. But however, only theymos can actually know whether any profile that is banned can have access to their old and recent messages.

Like everyone else I'm also able to see and read the messages of the members who messaged me back in 2016 and those messages are still there. Only the account owner can delete those messages, I don't delete messages and that's why the messages from 2016 are still in my inbox.

The forum is always accountable to transparency while public posts are archived for the visibilities roe public view and PMs are also archived on the private modes within users connecting in the PM and the PMs isn't visible to other forum users not the admins, mods or other authorities.
So you can really see PM of others whether they've forever not coming online again for as long as you decides even could still PM from banned accounts in your inbox in as much the texts had existed therein before.
If you've issues as complained then it must be that you deleted the texts long ago and couldn't remember you did it.
Also note that the forum can only be accessible through the website which source is based on internet connection. So it doesn't support offline accessibility.

It would be nice if this was a thing but it isn’t. My inbox has gotten completely out of control with no hope of ever cleaning it up. It is so slow now that I find other things to do when waiting for my PMs to load. There was a short period where this wasn’t the case and I even made a thread about it, but it didn’t last. I think so many people are running scrapers on this forum now it would be nice to see things like archiving to improve things. The best hope for the forum though is when these people running scrapers to obsess about the activity of others have their bots go down for a while.
