No, not at all. What I mean is not the exact location, like the same address or street, but the province of the winner. The lottery is so popular in our country that you can't tell who the exact winner is in a given location because almost everybody bets.
Even the lottery outlet will have no idea who among its bettors hit the jackpot.

I won't resort into wearing a mask as there's no need to hide my winnings from my own family. In fact, they'll be the first to know if I won such huge amount, so I have no reason to hide from them, nor keep my winnings on my own.

However, with his case, I can sense there is an issue between him and his family that's why he doesn't want his family to be part of his victory. So let's just respect the winner as no one knows actually what's happening behind closed doors.

I believe he did that on purpose, he must have known the kind of family members he got, maybe they are worst than the general public. Some family members are that bad that people hide good news from them because such good news may turn otherwise
 For me if I win such money, there wouldn't be need to hide my face, but after taking my wins, I will know how to avoid them or know how to leave with them since I know I am their Target.

First time seeing this, lol…because some choose to face the crowd with real faces.

Anyway, it was the choice of the winner to show their real faces or have this like a clown. They have given such an option for their security reasons and to keep themselves hidden from the crowd. And I believe that is good because now the world is surrounded by people who have devilish plans. At least doing this saves him from them.

As long as it is allowed by the casino, that won't be a problem. Probably they had some conversation before it. Maybe I'd do the same if I ever had the chance to win…

This is a good start for lottery winners, at least they won't worry if people around even in the establishment itself will recognize him, because the face alone is unrecognizable.

If I ever win any  amount from lottery , there’s no way I’m going to reveal my face to the public ..It’s not about family though. It’s about someone out there who might try to forcefully take a share of the money, or even take everything if they are willing to harm or kill. It shows how desperate people can be and you just have to use common sense to tackle every situation. After all, you’re going back to the family , there’s absolutely zero reason to hide it from them..not talking about the whole extended family though.

That’s actually normal protocol here in the Philippines. A winner can choose to hide their identity when claiming a check, and that’s for security reasons. Anyone who wins millions is at risk, especially if they’re just an ordinary or poor person. So it really makes sense.

If it were me, I’d do the same. I wouldn’t proudly tell the whole world I won just to attract bad people. Robbery is one thing, but kidnapping your family and asking for ransom is way worse. I don’t want that kind of possibility anywhere near my life.

I think this is common among lottery winners since you most likely doesnt want to reveal who you are if you win a huge amount of money, especially if it is life-changing money, because you are surely going to gettaken advantage of by someone. Even in my country, this happens most of the time, not to mention you are surely in danger because it is common here in my country to get shot or kidnapped.

When it comes to family, we all have different relationships with our families. I totally understand if someone doesnt want to reveal it to their family, because he or she is the only one who knows the family truly, and he knows their true nature, so it could be a reason why he doesnt want to reveal it.

I mean if I win the lottery, I might probably do this too, but I might reveal it to my family for sure, since im all good with my family but I'm not going to do it with the public it just too risky, and even my family is at risk if I do that.

The reason is, of course, my safety. No one would feel safe collecting a lottery prize in front of other people and cameras. I also don't want my family to know right away. They'll know in due time because there will surely be signs. I'm certainly sharing the prize with them.

for me I think it’s less about hiding the good news from the family & more about protecting himself first before everything else. I agree that the general public is usually the bigger risk once your identity is known it’s not just relatives it’s distant friends, scammers, strangers asking for help or people w/ bad intentions. If I were in his shoes I’d probably do the same thing to hide my identity from the general public not necessarily to hide forever from my family. I’d want to secure the money first get legal & financial advice then decide calmly how & when to tell my family.

I am curious, maybe the winner only wore this during photo ops? But the people actually inside that room for sure saw his/her name? Because here in our country, they just edit the photo before putting it on public like they will blurr the face or do something to hide the face.

If I'm in his shoes, then I will request that when I claim my reward, I don't want any media around it. But that is the thing, lottery wanted to show that they have real winners and there are no colluding with someone from the outside to get that huge win.

And I don't know if he will not be recognized by his family. I mean he could have bought a new and nice car with that money and so some of his family members might suspect that he could have won that lottery unless he lives the same as before and no changes until years of hiding it and then just go somewhere else.

If I win, I will do the same. Securing myself from the public is important. We don't know who will have bad intentions towards us especially when they know we win much money.

He might know his family's nature better and decided to hide all of that. He can still share with his family without revealing what really happened. Nope- he's hiding his identity given that he fear someone would hunt him down.

The picture came from an African lottery game and I am not familiar on how safe their country is but it's better to be safe than sorry. Knowing that there are people who can potentially track and hunt me down, better to exhaust every effort of keeping my identity hidden instead of regretting it afterwards.

Absolutely 100% that I will wear something that will conceal my true identity.

The reason is obvious- it's not about hiding my winnings from my family but to the public. If the general public knows my identity that I won a very substantial amount of money, they have the potential to hunt me down or even kidnap a member of family for ransom. It's all about safety when it comes to this kind of extraordinary situation because normal ethical values won't be applicable here.

in general... A family member could not understand what means a large amount of money means.

Definitely. Some people think it might be ridiculous but if you came from a family where you were the only the bread winner, they might think that your money or your winnings is their winnings too which I think is unfair. I'm sure that he will help his family financially without them knowing that he win a big amount in lottery, also with a public gathering like that where they will post your picture, I'm sure it is for security purposes as well, you might have some acquaintance that might be jealous or wanted to do harm to you to extort money so basically it's the right thing to do.

It is normal to see lottery winners mask their faces when they're claiming their prizes. It's not about celebrating it with your relatives but protecting yourselves to the bad people that might come to you and take that money. So, it works as a two way protection for him. His relatives won't know that he's a winner and also the public as well.

I think we sometimes view family too idealistically. We imagine it's a community of people who get along well, never have conflicts, and see things the same way. This isn't true. If I had to withdraw a large sum of money, I'd probably do something similar. As they say on our forum, "Everyone has the right to anonymity," including from their family. If someone close to you knows you have enough money, it's possible your family will make plans for it and push you toward decisions you don't like.
