I think every addiction can be divided into several stages, and I'd probably divide gambling addiction into two stages. The first stage is when the gambler begins to lie to their family a lot and becomes distracted by gambling, which causes them to have trouble paying attention and completing tasks at work. They also spend extra money on gambling, but still make their rent payments.
