It all stars from the brain. Your brain cares for you and anything you find as an activity of positivity it will always want to go back there
Gambling can lead anyone to addiction if they can't control themselves, whether it's their finances, time, desires, or even their brains, as the OP suggests. Personally, I consider gambling to be the same as any other game, including online games. The only difference is, that the risk of losing a lot of money in gambling is more likely to happen, than in online games, if if we play irresponsibly. So, I don't think we should ignore the whole "self-limitation" thing, and that applies to any activity that can lead to addiction. Therefore, let us be wise in every step, or activity we take. Don't take gambling too seriously, consider it just entertainment, and that is how we should view gambling. So, we can become responsible gamblers.
By the way, we as humans have complete control over our bodies, including our brains. So, when we say we can't control it, or try to blame our brains for our mistakes, I think that is wrong and seems like an excuse to avoid admitting our mistakes.
The main point is that all gamblers should have control over their urge to gamble. Op already made it clear that gamblers can get addicted for any reason other than monetary reasons. So if you say gamblers should treat gambling as entertainment, it still won't save them from getting addicted if they lose control of themselves as they gamble. The right advice is to remind gamblers to be conscious of themselves as they gamble. If they lose control, they may suffer the consequences.
I completely agree with you, we do need to provide warnings, or reminders to fellow gamblers. All of this is necessary, because we as humans are prone to mistakes and forgetfulness. By the way, my suggestion to consider gambling as entertainment is an early deterrent, and I think that is just as important as being aware of the consequences of gambling, meaning people should be aware of that from the start when they start trying it. I think that applies to anything, including investing, gambling, and so on. Essentially, be aware of what we are about to do, and that is why I advocate being wise in every step, as I said earlier.
