This is indeed a random thing that happens in our lives and eventually brings good luck, I think the old man also chose it randomly, the sequence of numbers he got and won is really amazing that luck can change a person's situation into a better world, unfortunately he got it in old age so the money must be used as an additional pension fund and if this couple got their luck at a young age, they might be very passionate and eager to buy things and travel to far places or be more impulsive in betting, it can happen.

The juice is just $5, what if he did not return the juice but use $5 for the lottery? $5 is a small amount of money that can easily be seen and be spent on anything.

In fact, I couldn't clear the matter. If you had given a link with a source, I would have known the details later. However, as far as it seems, the husband bought his wife juice for $5. But somehow, due to disagreement, he returned the juice without eating it and bought the lottery ticket with that $5. And he may have won a big prize on that ticket. It seems to me that it may be.

It happens to be a coincidence not a check in cause it's after a disapprove and rejected juice that comes the story line, regardless the wife didn't prompt the purpose of his win, luck actually smiled on his sides and he was opportuned to have won the lottery this big. So I'll say it's false . Situations as this are hard to come by and sometimes you can predict the unknown when it tends to happen so everything was meant to happen that way fueled by luck.

They are a lucky couple and should enjoy the prize together. Both had a participation on it and should be thankful for each other's choices. We don't know what it means and why it had to happened that way. We just know it happened, so I think it's pointless to discuss who deserves the prize, or who deserve more, or who was responsible for the winning. Maybe it's the mix of all factors which brought them the final prize.

If the man was by himself in life, he wouldn't have won. The same is valid for the woman. Now they have lots of possibilities to choose on how to spend the earned prize. The only thing I'm sure is that it's not going to be on juice...

His wife will certainly argue this much in any divorce settlement which is fair enough I guess.   Its good luck and part of that luck was his wife requesting he make the effort to return the unwanted goods.
   I wouldnt call it gods plan or even wifes plan but it was just good luck and its still fair his wife says she was part of that, who would argue negatively while being lucky just be happy is my wish for both of them.

This instance is one of the reasons I consider gambling as luck coupled with skill, I think that must be a very good and lucky day for him and just like a saying goes every disappointment is a blessing, he must have been frustrated from his wife's refusal to accept the gift he bought but somehow it turned out to be a defining moment for them both.
I can say yes his wife made him win if e had no intentions of playing the lottery for that particular day, for her rejecting what he bought and made him return it only to use it lottery I can say to some extent yes.

You may want to argue that what if he had spent the refund on something else rather than buy the lottery ticket, but fact is, he bought the lottery ticket and it's because he returned the $5 juice which his wife disapproved, if his wife accepted the juice, there would have been no lottery ticket to win.

There are a lot of offshoots of scenarios in this story. My wife might like the juice. Or the wife might not like the juice, but she might not send her husband to the store to return it. The husband could have gone to return the juice, but changed his mind on the way. Finally, the husband could return the juice and, having received the money for it, spend it on something else besides a lottery ticket. Or even the husband could buy a lottery ticket, but this ticket could turn out to be a non-win. Moreover, buying a ticket could have nothing to do with juice at all, and regardless of this, a person could either win or not win. In my opinion, this proves that winning is accidental.
