I agree with you, gambling is a means of entertainment and not for profits. Gambling can only improve your health status and not your financial life. Whatever we do for entertainment that actually works actually does improve lives, being happy/joyful all the time has a way of prolonging our life span as humans and if happiness and joy can be derived from gambling, then indeed, it does improve our live in ways many of us may not even imagine is possible.
How about winning a significant amount of money unexpectedly from gambling? At least I know two person who were really poor but became rich and living a very comfortable life today as a result of money they won from gambling..

If they are just within or with themselves, it's not easy to get addicted to such a type of betting, as they will have to protect and guide one another. Unless a few of them are gambling outside, that way they can easily get addicted, and that has nothing to do with gambling with friends.

One thing I can actually tell you is that you try not to live in any regrets, we all make mistakes, I myself have had my own share of bad experiences in gambling which I've learn a good lesson from..

Most people don't start out as responsible gamblers, I myself too started out as a reckless and irresponsible gambler until I  made a mistake that almost took my life, i was never addicted, but one mistake I made was wanting to win big money by all means, I took every penny from my life savings, took the money from my business, put it together to amount to thousands of dollars, I bet all the money on a single game I had complete conviction would win, but unfortunately, the game lost and I fainted immediately I saw it, I was hospitalized for three days +, after I fully recovered, my gambling perspective completely changed, now I mind everything I do and every penny I spend on gambling to ensure non tempers with my happiness or have any negative effect on my finances, and now, I sincere enjoy gambling more than I ever did before.
