This just get me thinking.

Has Online gambling replaced let's say social drinking as a stress outlet? I remember back then, me and my office mates will have this Friday night out after a week of working and we all know that there are stress in our work specially if you work on corporate world. It's high paced, there's no time to take a break and jobs keeps piling up. And so after a tiring week me and my mates will go have fun and drink until the wee hours of the morning.

But with the advent of online gambling, I don't think that we can get back to socialized with your friends and meet others in the bar because I'm seeing that online gambling is now the modern way to cope with pressure at work and in life in general? You just go and play and isolate yourself in your bedroom until you lose your money?

Aboslutely not. I would never waste time and money in that way. And of course "going out" even just "going out" is much more better of any other sad decision

About gambling and social drinking...
I find the two things completely not related (likewise... I don't drink alcohol so I don't care at all about "social drinking" of the company )

Maybe these are two things that are going in a two separate ways.
Of course many people like more to gamble online... meanwhile drinking or in general habits to go out could change a lot.

I don't think online gambling will replace having a drink with friends or colleagues at the end of a hard work week. They don't interfere with each other, and can even be combined (not simultaneously, of course).

While the world is increasingly moving toward asociality, with people spending more time in the virtual world (note that online gambling has even penetrated our gambling scene), there's still room for the real world. People still need face-to-face interaction, and proof of this is bars, which, as you can see, haven't disappeared (which would be logical given the lack of demand and customers), but continue to operate.

Therefore, I expect online gambling won't be able to completely replace friday drinks at a bar. Overall, these are slightly different forms of entertainment, although they may share the same goal: relieving pent-up stress.

Not really. People still drink a lot whether they want to have fun, dealing with stress, or sad, etc. But since online gambling is becoming more popular, it just adds to other people's options when dealing with stress. It didn't really replaced the habit of drinking for most people but rather gain more things to do. And even when drinking, some still do online gambling. So they can really do both things together when they want.

Online gambling just makes it easier or accessible to relieve stress even if you're alone. Compared to drinking, most want to drink with their friends when they get stressed out. But since online gambling is accessible, they now have an option to do it alone and anywhere

Most people use that social drinking more than any gambling activity to still relieve stress nowadays. Where I work these people rarely speak about gambling if at all while they consistently not only talk about alcohol but also usually drink some bottles of wine for the smallest of reasons in the office which is against our job contracts. The upper management knows but they don't make a fuss about it as we do not exaggerate with the drinking. I personally would love more going to the local casino to have fun with friends rather than drinking in the office but that is just me though, these people just want to forget their problems and are not looking to win a jackpot to change their lives.

There is no way online gambling would replace social drinking, they both give a different feeling entirely and the latter is much more self relieving than online gambling. I really don't see gambling online as a relief for me, but it gives a certain kind of thrill that drinking does not, especially when you have a successful bet.

But drinking with friends is definitely self relief for me, a situation where you get to chat, tell stories, business ideas and receive comfort from conversations with close friends while you drink, that's a different kind of feeling. In a most suitable situation, music could also be inclusive to soothe the serene communication.

You just can't compare both feelings or say one can be replaced by the other.

It's an expensive habit if you go with online gambling as a stress outlet as the chances of you losing money is huge. As compare to going out with your friends and families on weekend. At least the expense is not that big as compare to gambling to let's say if you can't control yourself, you might lose $100 or more which could be bigger amount on some countries already. And if you just used it to buy food and drinks, and then having some fun which is priceless, you might still have spare change. But there could be some secretive and silent individuals who might be coping with their stress thru gambling. But again, when you lose then that could be another pile of stress that you added in your life. So I don't think that gambling is a way out, if could be just for couple of hours and then you are back to reality.

As for me, it hasn't, because people can still hangout to have fun and while doing that finds every reasons t also gamble, but i will like to emphasize more on that aspects of friends, which sometimes, we can discover that some of the things we are used to may not continue the same way as before, because there could be change of interest, location and other things around us that may not warrant the way we go out with our cliques in having fun, while to gamble, we may not have barrier to that, once we have access to our phone, internet connection and money on our casino wallet.

Honestly, I have never had such an experience. Well, if not, gambling can actually deal with stress, then no one would drinking and smoke. Anyway, I'm not going to go there, if someone wants to relieve stress by gambling, then he is doing the most stupid thing. Because gambling increases stress along with money. For example if one drinks alcohol, it harms his health. But on the contrary, gambling harms the family as well as oneself. And if one accidentally becomes addicted,Then the mental condition may worsen. So no matter how much work pressure there is one should not turn to gambling.

Why can not? Why do you say as if online gambling's existence has curbed down on bars (or other socializing activities for that matter), or has it in your area?

Online gambling is another choice given to you that you can CHOOSE to do, do what you like, go to bar or sit on your butt and gamble.  Do what you enjoy, who cares?

As for me personally, I used to be sit at home guy just sometime back, and would prefer doing activities at home than go anywhere but I feel this change in me nowadays where I like socializing, so I would prefer socializing (whether it be going to bar, or some other outside activity).

No, and as I can see, I'm not the only one, far from it. There is a tendency, especially among younger generations, to not go out to nightclubs as much and not drink, but these are people who grew up with a cell phone in their hands. There is a change in trends, but not because of gambling.

Maybe on certain groups. I also experienced a non-stop Friday Night drink, even if it's not salary day yet. We always bring money on Fridays because it has become a traditional thing. Now that online gambling is popular, I can see some of my workmates gambling just a bit, but it didn't stop us from going out sometimes. It's actually the family time that changed it all, and not gambling only.
Most of us started working when we were single, but now that many of us have our own families, it's more difficult to find free time to do it. Still, we sometimes try to go out just to relieve the stress. I am also glad that even if that is rare to happen, there is no one who gambles while we drink. It's all stories and discussions about family and work. Well, it became a rule that no phones are allowed while we are out unless it's an emergency.

Well, I do not completely agree with this, I really have started meeting my friends less often, but I think the reason is that we have gotten older and everyone has their own responsibilities. Besides, we did not usually meet on Friday evenings, but chose some day on the weekend. Some of my friends moved to live in other countries, so naturally I see them much less now.

I also do not have a situation where I use gambling to reduce my stress, and I do not play until I lose my entire deposit in one day. For me gambling is really just entertainment. Just a few bets on the weekend, and that is normal for me.
And if I do manage to meet with friends, it is simply a meeting to visit and talk, not to get drunk.

I think people get addicted to alcohol more after gambling. There are enough reasons behind my statement. I have seen many gamblers who lose everything they have while gambling and at some point they become mentally depressed and to get rid of this depression they often get involved in alcohol. Later they spread to various types of criminal activities to earn money for gambling and alcohol. For them, theft, robbery and robbery become a daily thing. At different times they start pressuring their families for gambling money. That is why I think a person can get addicted after getting involved in gambling. Yes, there is also the opposite but I think there are few such people who gamble to stay away from addiction i.e. to get rid of depression.

I actually don't agree. It actually depend on the person itself, I know a lot of colleagues who are stressed at works and still choose to have fun going out with their friends but I know that they also gambles too (But not that much) and I think it depends also on the situation of the individual if he prefers gambling over drinking, because in gambling there's a chance that you will lose and those stress will just adds up and I don't think if a person is trying to release stress he wouldn't choose it as there's a risk that it can double his stress. I know that there are some people who chooses it over drinking but I know too that there's a lot of people that will still choose social drinking as a stress outlet rather than gambling.

Folk, online gambling doesn't replace anything but it is people who choses to replace it and if I'm not mistaken gambling has been existing if not as old as man. These years and time you and your friend always go out to drink I believe and I know for sure that online gambling has been in existence, I believe maybe there was a change or something happened that made that your friend changed and I think you should find  out what happened or maybe back then he was not aware of online gambling but even as that it is people who decide to replace things and I don't see any reason why gambling will make someone stop hanging out with friends like they use to unless they have issue of addiction and some addict even hangout with friends.

What makes you think that most people isolate themselves and gamble in their bedroom? Do you really think that gambling is the only thing a person can do to relieve stress?

No. Just because it's no longer the norm, doesn't mean it's because of gambling. We all have different personalities, some people still want to go out and socialize with friends, whether it's drinking or just hanging out somewhere. Others prefer to be alone and relieve stress through online games, binge watching movies/tv shows, or even just by mindlessly scrolling through their phones, especially those from the current generation.

That may be true for some people, but it's not universally true that gambling is a substitute for social drinking, it has nothing to do with it. Stress relief can be achieved through anything, depending on habits. Even when gambling, people often drink and the two can be combined.
I'm curious, is there any research that provides a definitive percentage of how likely gambling is to alleviate stress?

I don't agree. Online gambling may have contributed to the increase in isolation in people; however, it's not the main cause. Your age and that of your coworkers might have affected your social life. Your priorities might have changed. Maybe you guys were not married or had partners when you usually hang out on weekends. Now instead of spending time drinking all through the night, you would rather go home and spend time with your family. Dependents might also have affected your budget. You prefer to spend money on something else instead of on beer.

No I don't agree, no amount of gambling time can replace that social bonding time with your friends. Those things are still in existence today, more and more social drinking joints are being opened every day. There are other issues of life that friends and colleagues can still talk about when they go out for drinks on weekends it's not always about fun all the time. Several issues that ranges from family problems, finance, career, investments opportunities that friends can still talk about while having drinks. Online gambling can't fix these things, that's why online gambling platforms can never replace social drinking and stress outlets. You can't gamble all the time, so when you are not in the mood to gamble but you are stressed and need someone to talk to it's still the social drink outlet you will turn to.
