For some people it may be true, but what I see in my social environment, social drinking still has its own special place, it cannot be replaced by online gambling. Bros around me actually avoid gambling when they are too busy in the week at the office, they say, gambling will make the situation more difficult if they lose.

For me to an extent I will say yes because gambling has quitely replaced some social outlet stress for many people. And that's because before when you're hanging out with friends, drinking together and laughing all these helps to reduce the stress from work pressure and the rest, Even though alcohol isn't a good remedy, the connection you have is there.

You see for now, gambling gives you this escape but it's mostly on isolation because instead of you to share your problems or stress with people that at some point won't give you a listening ear, is better for you to be in your room and relieve it yourself with the bets and that might easily turn into stress if the money you're using start going.

No, I don't agree. Till date, I go out with friends, we sit out and don't gamble together, we just drink and talk. Moreover, I do not think that this comparison match. In some known physical casinos,  people still engage in social drinking as they interact with fellow gamblers. None is replacing any, they are both existing and enjoyed by those who value them. To even think of it, many do not consider gambling a fun activity to do with friends.

I think that, first of all, we should know where the OP is writing from, because chances are that a cultural change is happening in his country. But like most users before me said, I'm not witnessing that shift in my surroundings. Even with all the inflation and with the salaries not rising, I see more and more people at the bars, more than ever, even if social drinking was already very common in the past.

A different thing is that people also gamble while drinking. More and more gambling stores are opening, where you can drink and eat while gambling, and even in the old taverns the slots machines are very demanded. Maybe it's just an observation of one individual but I doubt that this will hold true until a study will say so. I think that social drinking is still the go-to outlet for most people because you can do it at home and you can invite more people to drink with you than to gamble and with a lot of people still seeing gambling as a vice that's more destructive than drinking, it's obvious that social drinking is going to beat gambling. I also partially agree, because I believe gambling doesn't really isolate anyone even though being social has been reduced and people would instead prefer to choose some peace and quiet over  going to the bar to discuss or gossip on happenings within and around their society.
I still discuss gambling topics with friends and colleagues as small talk while working together or when am relaxed with them, because whether we like to accept it or not, gambling is a hot topic of discussion and it would help make friends faster, but with all the burdens of friends that we have been exposed to, some act as informants and create problems for us, hence why some prefer being alone and gambling from comfort rather than going to a bar to drink or smoke just to ease stress.

Hmmm, it's definitely a difficult thing to generalize to have an answer on behalf of everyone but I am inclined to believe so.

With the advent of technology where online gambling is at the palm of your hand, lots of people nowadays use this both as an escape mechanism and as a entrance in order to feed their addiction. It really depends on the person on how they would see gambling (e.g. for entertainment, profit, etc.) but one thing is for sure- they will gamble in the process.

You're right, online gambling can't stop people from drinking more especially those who are used to taking alcohol. although I'm not a lover of alcohol but sometimes when I'm stressed I usually think of taking alcohol and i must say that I have done this several times and it helps me ease the stress, although I didn't take it to a point of getting tipsy rather I just do it moderately so that I won't disgrace myself in the beer pallor. I think it has gotten a lot more expensive to drink in recent years, especially in a social setting out in the real world - you might still be able to buy it to drink at home but that is quite dangerous by itself. Maybe there is just a more hidden alcohol problem because people are doing it alone more often. However I think these two vices have always sat alongside each other rather, especially as many people are drinking as they gamble in casinos and casinos actually encourage the behavior because it loosens up the wallet. There does seem to be more prevalence in online gambling, so it might have overtaken it in popularity but I the idea it would be stress relief seems an antithesis to me, as many people leave a gambling session stressed.
