I don’t know about you but in my locality among the folks I relate with, I don’t think there is any change. Rather propane learned to do the both of them together. That is they have gambling and social drink coexist. Humans are social creatures and so it would be difficult for anything to come in between humans and their time for socializing.

I don’t think so. Online gambling is rising but I’ve never considered it a replacement for drinking. I think that would go to marijuana usage, which is sharply on the rise while social drinking is on decline.

I think online gaming is probably replacing video games or social media scrolling.

Seems somewhat exaggerated to me. Online gambling does not substitute social drinking. In fact, in most cases, it still happens concurrently with the other. Most people online gamble while drinking alcohol-with their right hand on the phone pressing the spin button and left holding a glass of drink. Therefore, it has not substituted drinking as a stress reliever.

Drinking alcohol is a social activity that has long been a part of many cultures, but online gambling is just another extra form of entertainment brought about by recent technological advancements. People who love to mingle will still visit bars or sit with friends whether there is online gambling or not. Those who prefer being alone will also choose that with or without online gambling in place. From an individual perspective, I would say that the coming up of online gambling did not really do away with drinking; it just introduced another option of how people can get rid of stress.

Weekend days is always available, as a matter of fact group of friends now create chance to gamble while having fun either drinking etc. I know a lot of stress free activity for example sports etc, online gambling still gives the chance to always meet peers as mentioned above social drinking.

I prefer socializing and having a few drinks now and then, since gambling as a stress reliever isn't a healthy way to manage stress. You could simply have a losing day, and the stress you already had could escalate into frustration and anxiety. On the other hand, going out, chatting with friends, and having a few drinks in moderation would be an excellent way to release stress. Of course, the healthiest way to manage stress will always be to exercise and get enough sleep, but since we're talking about leisure, that's my answer.

Same here. I don't know where OP is from but maybe in some parts of the world this is happening that people prefer to gamble than drink. Maybe in Asia?

In Europe drinking is still very popular. All the pubs are full on Friday night and it's hard to find a spot, just like it used to be 10 years ago. I don't think that this has changed, especially among young people who don't have a lot of money, so they'd rather go out for a drink and some food than risk losing it at the casino and going home with empty stomach.

I don't know which part of the world you live in but here both are two different things that happen and very important for a lot of people. Social drinking is not going away because people use that for relaxation whereas gambling is see as hustle. Often people enjoy the proceed of their gambling in social drinking in sports bars. So there is no way gambling is any threat to social drinking and vice versa. I'm even waiting for the day I will hit my first 6 figures in gambling so that I will gather my friends for a nice treat at a decent joint.

In my view, the economy is what makes most people stressed, talking about online gambling, now we understand that online gambling, most people think, is more promising financially, Even though most of us are not aware of the money we lose, many gamblers find easy money from online gambling.

Personally, I still find time hanging out with my friends and gather for a drinking session until dawn comes. That is our only time hearing updates from one another so I will never trade that just for gambling reasons. It's high paced, there's no time to take a break and jobs keeps piling up. And so after a tiring week me and my mates will go have fun and drink until the wee hours of the morning.

But with the advent of online gambling, I don't think that we can get back to socialized with your friends and meet others in the bar because I'm seeing that online gambling is now the modern way to cope with pressure at work and in life in general? You just go and play and isolate yourself in your bedroom until you lose your money?

Maybe that's just for you and your work mates, gamble has nothing to do in such scenarios unless your work mates are looking forward to make more money through gambling. The feeling when you go out with friends and have a drink can not be compared when you stay on your own to gamble online or offline. As a matter of facts, I actually find drinking together with friends more entertaining than gambling. As for gambling if the mindset is not for entertainment just be rest assured that addiction and losses with be the only results.

Everyone has their preference and what takes their stress away, to some it us gambling and some still prefer to drink alcohol either in a moderate way or irresponsible way. online gambling has indeed become a meanspd distraction for a lot of people and it also has its disadvantages because it has actually caused more harm than good for a lot of people. it is better not to use gambling as a stress outlet

I have to say that some social drinking might be lessen these days as there are those who prefer to just stay at home while gambling than make an effort to go out of the house for a social drinking with friends.

However, that is not my personality. I have some limits when it comes to gambling, and I still prioritized having time with my friends socializing especially now that we are all focused on our own family and individual source of income. If possible, once or twice a month we do meet and chat. After all, gambling is 24/7, so we can always find time to gamble if we really want.

I also hang out with friends but I never create drinking parties with my friends by gambling. Moreover, online gambling has protected our privacy a lot where we can gamble in privacy and there is no question of drinking while gambling. Moreover, gambling is one of my means of entertainment so I think here I will not ruin my means of entertainment by gambling because drinking is a very bad addiction which destroys life in a very bad way. Addicted gamblers can create gambling parties and drink there because they drink to forget their troubles and various pressures. Moreover, I think online gambling has not taken the place of social drinking as a solution to stress.

Drinking is considered a culture in some countries so it can't be separated from it and I personally don't think gambling can replace it . On the other hand I personally don't consider drinking and gambling as stress relievers so maybe this won't relate to me because for me drinking and gambling can actually cause stress afterwards rather than stress relief.

Maybe there are those who use this as a distraction but for me it makes more sense if I gamble or drink when I'm in good shape and not under any pressure factors that make me stressed because when I'm stressed and force myself to gamble or drink I will become more stressed and even worse than before even though the distraction works temporarily.

This works differently for people, but as for me, gambling can't take away the stress of work, infact I like gambling in one of my most relaxed times because it's another kind of stress trying to analyse too. Then it entertains after analysing. So if I usually have some drink with my friends after a tiring day, I will still do so if only it makes me more relaxed too. Maybe not the long time spent as usual, but I will definitely have some drinks with my friend and gamble later. Gambling can't replace that type of social sitting, except if the aim of the sitting is only to gamble; then it can stop it after discovering online gambling.

I can relate to the OP using myself as a perfect example, I spent quality time outside with my friends and brothers, during the hours of interaction none of us discussed what is related to gambling, none of us were on our phones gambling on casinos or betting at the moment, although some of us might have booked our games earlier before sitting out, that is perfectly how both can coexist, based on different timing.

I wouldn't want to replace my drinking moments with gambling, it's not as important as having a human interaction compared to spending those hours inside a casino or in online casino.

Why not the casual gamblers prefer both? to drink while they gamble? But you'll later on see a thread about which has been posted also before that we shouldn't drink and gamble.  
I guess that's fair but to be honest, everyone can think of it as a replacement if they don't want to drink anymore to remove their stress. Gambling is sort of fun to those drinkers and if they have found it satisfying, there's no way for any of us to invalidate their feelings that way.

To arrive at that conclusion, how many surveys do we need to do? I don't think it's enough to conclude if 10 people in your circles say so. At most, it can only mean that your social circle habits have changed. As far as I can remember, for my friends and me, if we meet up, we'll probably talk or play games instead of drinking. I guess if we meet at a restaurant, then we'll just eat and talk for a long time instead. I don't think I've ever received an invite to play online games to reduce stress before.

The ability to manage daily life well is indicative of our capability to govern impulsive desires that usually get us off track with plans that we had earlier made. Through doing so, I have come to understand that confining the gaming to the home environment did not only spare us some privacy and comfort at home when we needed to have fun alone. You are correct that allocating time transcendently based on the activities that we have to accomplish and the necessity to socialize is a way of ensuring that we do not miss crucial things.
